I placed my order for 1.4GHz - 4GB ram - 128GB immediately after the online store is up, but now I got little hesitated on whether to cancel this order and have a 1.6GHz upgrade. How much differences in performance?

If I go for the 11.6in, is the upgrade from 1.4GHz to 1.6GHz worth $100?
It seems very minimal to me but I'd like some thoughts.
I'm debating between the 1.4 and 1.6ghz 11.6" macbook air.
For most activities I do, I'm thinking the faster disk access is more important than the CPU speed. I currently have a 2009 13.3" Macbook Pro, 2.26ghz.
The only thing I've noticed that I really need a fast CPU for is watching video, 720p or 1080p especially flash video.
Can the 1.4ghz display smooth 720p video from VLC or Youtube (flash)?
I see its $250 extra to top-off the CPU for a 100mhz boost. Does anything else change like cache? I find the upgrade price unreasonable.Â

I got a program called "gfxCardStatus" that allows me to see which graphics card is being used and allows me to manually switch between them. I don't do anything graphically intensive in OS X (I only play games in bootcamp) but the nvidia card is being used most of the time and it makes my mbp hot and kills the time i can use the battery. I switched my MBP to only use the intel card in os x and have seen no performance or visual difference, but I was wondering if this is a bad idea?

Based on performance, reliability and 5-year warranty, I've been attracted to the Intel 520. I've also read good reports on the Samsung 830. One review indicated that the 830 maintained performance over time while the 520 experienced a significantly greater drop.

Should I go for a 2.26GHz + 4GB ram mac mini for photoshop, illustration works, some video editing and my 3d studio Max the most. Does 2.0 & 2.26Ghz really tell the different when I am doing the rendering on my 3d max?

I just bought a new Mac Pro 6-core and an OWC 120Gb SSD drive. My question is putting the SSD on optical drive bay or Hard disk drive bay, is there any difference in performance? My understanding from my old PC is never to share the SATA cable with the optical drive as it will take the transfer speed of the optical drive, because they are running in the same "channel"?Is the 2 SATA cable in the optical drive bay 2 separate distinct ports/channel?

And since I still have HDD Rev A at hand as well, if anyone is interested in asking me to do some kind of benchmark one wants to try, now is the time. (I usually don't do much of these stuff, so tell me exactly how I can do it.)
I wouldn't be holding the HDD in about 5 days, so, I can only do it in those days.
So far I like the app icon only bounce once for most of the app's initial launch.

So, will computer suffice or heat up a lot and slow down? Can I keep an YouTube tab + Facebook + VLC player up w/o slowing it down?
I also fly a lot twice a month, so I need a good battery life. Will my heavy video use drain the battery life from 5 hours to let's say 2 hours in a single charge?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI bought my girlfriend a MacBook Air and 24" LED Cinema display, and the MBA works great when it's on its own. However, when she plugs in the 24" and runs the MBA in clamshell mode, she gets beachballs even when trying to print, open folders...the whole system seems to slow down. It's the Rev B MBA with the 1.6Ghz C2D, so I can't imagine it's the 9400m, she doesn't have a full hard drive...I just can't think of what is causing the system to slow to a crawl like that?

My question is 2.3ghz VS 2.6ghz Retina is it worth the extra money? I know you also get another 256gb of space but man $600 is a lot. View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to grab one of these new MBP's in the next few days, but as an admittedly,.I'll be mostly using my MBP for DJ and Logic work, as well as the occasional Illustrator or Photoshop project, along with some movie watching. No games or 3D stuff necessary..66 make a justifiable difference over the 2.4? I'm planning on getting 8gb with the 2.4, doing the 7200rpm upgrade and getting a HR screen on whichever one I choose, but just wanna make sure my going with a cheaper processor and more RAM isn't shooting myself in the foot down the road more than getting a slightly faster proc with less RAM.

Which would be the better choice? Is the price difference justifiable?
I am a photographer so I do a lot of tethered shooting through capture one and a lot of photo editing in Photoshop. I have an eizo 24" external display I can hook up to but I feel the 17" with its high resolution and anti glare would be useful for location shoots so my question: Is the higher price and old technology worth it for the bigger antiglare screen and bigger harddrive for what I am using it for?
My 15'' 2.4ghz MacBook Pro will only wake up from sleep about 50% of the time. I have tried waiting for several minutes, but the only solution seems to be holding down the power button, and then restarting. Is there anything i can do to fix this?
