Any way I can encode video on my 13" 2011 MBP without maintaining a CPU temp of 92 degrees? Ideally I would use iVI with some sort of CPU limit but that route seems pretty dodgy so is there any lightweight encoding software that I can keep running all night without worrying about wearing out my precious mac?

Whenever I run a flash video, according to my istats program, the CPU temp is between 65c to 67c. Is this normal? I never noticed this high temp on my previous 2.4 umbp. There are other sites that have flash video that makes it go up to 80-85c.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI used quicktime X to screen record a skype video chat and im trying to crop it so that theres just the skype window and not my desktop. I used imovie and did this but the video quality is terrible when i export it (shadows are like flcikers of grays). Im wondering if theres a way to do this to keep te exact video quality ( when importing to imovie i clicked keep original quality but still turned out terrible after i exported it) or to simply crop the video i need out of the movie.

I've exported this as a single Apple ProRes HQ Quicktime and used the 'DVD: High Quality 90 mins' setting in Compressor - and then used DVD studio pro to burn (all this is using Final Cut Studio 2).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for a few days now to get iDVD to save a disk image to my computer hard drive (since my Superdrive isn't here yet), but every time it'll crash at some random part of the encoding. The last time I tried it crashed within a few seconds, but last time it had encoded one of the three videos in my project before it crashed. It just "unexpectedly quits".
Is there any video info application? That lets you check a video's encoding, sound info etc.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAt this moment, I have my Mac mini encoding video with HandBrake for iTunes. In iStat Pro in Dashboard, it says that my CPU is 204 degrees Fahrenheit! Is this normal? I get that video encoding is CPU intensive. But why would the fan only stay at 1500 RPM and not kick up to keep the processor cool? The area around the fan is scalding hot in the back, also.

I've tried every tip on the web including, reducing the encoding quality & reducing the burn speed and de-install and re-install iDVD, but still manage to get the same message 'Encoding Video - There was an error during movie encoding' after having waited an hour for it to encode.I'm using iDVD '08 Vir.7.0.1 on a MacBook (10.5.8) with over 20GB of free space and 1GB of memory.The .avi file is 500mb in size.I've tried saving as a Video_TS folder rather than directly to a DVD, but still get the same error.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBookPro5,4 2.53GHz with one fan and only the 9400M. After updating to 10.6.3 the operating temperature seems to have risen from about 43 degrees C to about 48. It has been getting warmer here in Japan so the ambient temperature is different but I still think this rise in temp. is due to the update. I have smcfancontrol installed and set to 2500rpm instead of the normal 2000, but it seems to be not enough to keep the temp. under control, as it did before the update. Any relatively hard use of the cpu and the temp goes up to 60 degrees.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just adding some Quicklook plugins when my temps started to soar. I have restarted, repaired permissions, removed said plugins, and tried other accounts. Nothing is lowering the temps. Weird thing is is Activity Monitor is showing NOTHING using the processor nearly enough to jump my temps to 85 C with nothing running.
I'm "controlling" the issue for now by ramping my fans to full speed. Even with this I am hovering around 70 C...a good 10-15 C above what I am normally at (and was at 30 minutes ago).
*Note: Normally running fans at 6000rpm would give me temps in the mid to low 40 C range
Has anyone else tried using Handbrake with their MBA? If so, how many fps are you encoding at? I'm currently doing a movie and its going on avg 4 fps. Seems a bit low for a 1.8ghz C2D MBA?
View 20 Replies View RelatedWhen I convert a MS Word document (MS Word 2004 for Mac) to a PDF document, using Adobe Acrobat (v. 8 for Mac), the hyperlinks that were inserted into the Word document are not present in the PDF document (hyperlink text is present, but it is not clickable or colored/underlined as it was in orig. Word document).
Please inform me of any setting in Acrobat or Word that I may need to change to get the hyperlinks to carry over properly during conversion.
I really don't want to go through all of my PDFs that I have created and re-insert hyperlinks manually, as there are TONS of them..!
when running handbrake it maxes out the cpu in my sig and uses over 300% of the processor. I'm interested in the CPU usage and speed of ripping compared to the faster i5's and I'd like to see how the i7's compare as well. I don't think the speed of the hard drive really comes into play but I have the stock 5400rpm drive. Do people with SSD's notice any difference in ripping/encoding? If so, it might be time to get an SSD
View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently I keep my time machine backup on an external usb hard drive which is a seagate hd in an enclosure I bought a while ago. I want to maintain a second copy of the time machine back up.
Is it better to buy an external RAID enclosure, put the current drive in there, get another drive, and then just have time machine backup to that drive?
Or should I just get another enclosure and another drive? If I do it this way, can I automate the time machine backups across two drives in any way, or I have to manually run it twice?
PlI plug in my iPhone to my Mac to sync. While in iTunes, I select my iPhone in the side bar and then I select Apps. Once in Apps, I organize my apps into tidy folders. For example, I put all of my airline apps into the same "Travel" folder. I do this to prevent having pages and pages of apps. After doing that, I press the "Sync" button to save the changes to the iPhone. The changes seem to stick. No problem.
I look on my iPhone and the changes are made. I unplug my iPhone and the changes are still there. However, when I plug in my iPhone to sync the following day, all of the apps are unorganized again. This has happened repeatedly for weeks. Not sure why. Some previous organizational changes I've made are OK. It seems the iPhone simply will not allow me to organize the last 7-10 apps I've added to my phone.

I have a 120 gig classic, I don't mind the fact that I can fit less songs in a higher quality bitrate on this device. I also just got a 8 gig nano, and I would like to upload everything onto it in 128 instead of lossless. I don't want to convery my who library as I would prefer to preserve it is lossless.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just started using the aluminum MBP 15" and used to have 13 Macbook aluminum. and as far as i can tell the 13" did not get as hot as my 15" I just installed a fan and temp controller and even with running the fan higher then default os 10.6 temps reached 165 F I freaked out and cranked up the fan to 5000 RPM and temps dropped so far. So, How hot are these MBP supposed to get until it no longer safe?? And its not even close to being where the MBP is: sitting in my office on a desk where its cold and i have to drink tea to stay warm.

View 16 Replies View Relatedusing Ichat the other day running a full screen chat, and I saw the temp of the CPU rise to about 65C and the fans started spinning up 6200.... That was understandable as the CPU was under load... but after I closed the ichat down, the CPU temp dropped down to about 50C but the fans stayed at 6200 for a long period of time. probably about 10 minutes or so... then they slowly crepted down to 2500.
