View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer has recently started running very hot. At first it was just when playing a certain game, but now it is fairly frequent, and it is loud, not to mention not good for the computer. Can any one give me any ideas as to what could be causing it? its a macbook pro bought last September, 15in, running lion.

I am working on a macbook that got recently got upgraded from 10.4.6 to 10.5.8, and I want to upgrade it using my 10.6.3 retail disk but can't. It just spits the disk out after 10-20 seconds. The 10.6.3 retail disk has no scratches or abnormalities. It can read other DVD's fine. I have also reset the PRAM.

I haven't upgraded yet but I was wondering if anyone could provide some feedback concerning the EFI 1.7 update and SL. #1. Is there anyone here who had installed the EFI 1.7 update, experienced those dreaded HDD issues and has now updated to SL? If you did have you noticed any changes? #2. Is there anyone who hasn't taken the EFI 1.7 plunge and recently installed SL? If you did was the update forced upon upgrade and have you noticed any issues?

I was wondering, with the new announcements, will there be a free upgrade for people who just bought a mac recently to Mountain Lion? I thought this was the case when Lion came out...

My MacBook Pro 13 inch (early 2011 - Intel Core i5 2.3Ghz) cannot get beyond password screen (bar half fills and freezes thereafter). Recently download Yosemite OS X as offered as free upgrade. Also changed the password last evening but that hardly is related to the issue. The bar is new on start up! It has worked albeit very slowly in recent days since Yosemite dowload. Was working in Mavericks okay.

I had sharing turned off but somehow it turned back on. I think someone hacked into my computer. However, how do I find out who the person is that recently connected and is there anyway to detect whether or not they copied any of my files?

I have a problem with my 17'' MBP unibody:
1) Bluetooth is ON:
I can't turn it off. The checkbox is inactive.
But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)
2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:
But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.
It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.
Back to 1)
What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?
This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.
I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.
I recently changed my Apple ID. When I try to make changes to my iCloud account on my Mac., I cannot access the account via System Preferences. I've changed the password once already. My iPhone's iCloud account is fine. At this point my iCloud account no longer is working with my Mac.

I have been using the MBP 2010 since it released in April. There was no problem until recently. For about the past two weeks, Safari has been hanging very often with the spinning color ball. Anybody knows how to fix the problem? I am running Safari ver 5.0 (6533.16) on Mac OS X ver 10.6.4 Build 10F569.

I've tried to open this a million times, it seems hardware related, As a matter of fact, the performance of the tray opening has been declining recently. It reads and writes just fine, I hate to relace this unit if its a simple rubber band issue...

I have noticed a pattern with my Mac that is becoming quite disturbing. It has taken to shutting down spontaneously for no apparent reason that I can deduce. I have dusted it out, performed the reset procedure and even removed programs that I thought would have adverse effects.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer has recently been slowing to a crawl at times, and when I check my Activity Monitor I see the culprit is launchd, which is using 30-60% of my CPU. Anyone else with this problem, and why does it happen? Can I stop it?
View 12 Replies View RelatedOk, so for the past few weeks spotlight has not been working. It would not find things that I had recently put on my system. So I fiddled around with it by doing this:
sh-3.2# mdutil -E /
/:
No index.
It shot me a no index error. I kept trying different things including deleting the index file through the Finder. I finally turned off spotlight with mdutil -i off /. I restarted and tried to turn it back on and it would give me this error:
sh-3.2# mdutil -i on /
/:
Error: unable to perform operation. (-100)
No index.
Then I did rm /.Spotlight-V100 and deleted the spotlight index and restarted. Now it searches for files and it has all the files in the index, but it no longer does calculator or dictionary searches. Using mdutil -E / returns this:
sh-3.2# mdutil -E /
/:
No index.
mdutil -s / returns this:
sh-3.2# mdutil -s /
/:
No index.
But I can still use spotlight to find files. Typing something into the menubar gives back accurate results without calculator or dictionary results. So what do I do to fix it without a reinstall of 10.5? This is my 2.4 ghz Santa Rosa Macbook Pro. The drive is 160 GB.
So, I have the latest 2.5 G5 quad.
The power supply recently blew on it so I had the local Apple shop replace it. I brought her back home and powered her up for the first time and the fans are on full blast the whole time.
Usually the fans would be on high during start up and while shutting down...but they would ALWAYS slow down when OS X is loaded. Now they are on high all the time.
specs: 2.5 quad, 6.5 gb RAM, 2x 500gb HDD's, GeForce 7800GT, 10.5.6 (I know 10.5.7 is out...I'm installing it tonight, as it took over an hour to install on my iMac's)
I know I can just take it back to the tech, but if I can fix it with a simple setting then I'd like to try that first.
Panther has been running very sloiw lately
