My MacBook pro (15 mid 2009), does not sleep at all after the last update to version 10.7.3, for example: if i close the laptop -> the led light turns on but the laptop keeps running; even if I do it manually in the up corner right menu, it does not sleep.

I have an older but babied 2008ish Macbook Pro. Today upgraded my 3GS to os 4 with no problem. I downloaded a couple things but didn't go crazy today. I left work and shut lid. When I got home it was stuck on the screen saver password for a long time. I turned off the unit and now it just boots to a white screen. I can boot via OSX disc but it also doesn't see HD. This is a 500gb Seagate drive and I'm screwed if it's dead. Any suggestions to at least get to my bootcamp partition?

This has started since the last couple of updates. Weirdest thing - it would go to sleep after I close it, and then after a while it would try to re-awaken with the lid shut, and it keeps doing it over and over again. Â
I noticed that the machine was hot, one day when I came home, and then I realized that it was hot because it keeps wanting to come awake after I closed the lid, and noticed it the last couple times I went to bed myself! Â
Mac Pro 2013 will not sleep, either manually or through Energy Saver. It sleeps for about 2 seconds, then back on. It worked fine before the update!

A friend was downloading the mavericks update and his MBP went to sleep in the middle of it. Needless to say it now boots up in recovery mode.Â
I can access his Hard disk with my MBP and thunderbolt in target disk mode. with mine in target disk mode I can startup his computer with my ssd and access his drive through disk drill pro 2. it says i can rebuild his hard drive using the software but I dont know if it will format his drive. he wants pics and music off of it. Â

Before I purchased my Mac Pro on friday, I made sure to read these forums to make myself aware to some problems that could occur. When I got home, I made sure to do all the software updates and the Mac Pro is completely up to date, including the latest update from yesterday. However, this morning when I went to wake up my Mac Pro I couldn't get it to work so I had to do a hard restart. Should this be a concern for me? I put it back into sleep mode again and it woke up fine.. Could this have been a fluke?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI updated a few days ago, and have been getting this issue ever since. After I put my computer to sleep, it will not wake. The second monitor (as main monitor) shows the state i left it in, but my laptop screen is blank, and everything is frozen... My keyboard still functions, kind-of (because caps lock will turn on and off) but i have no control. The only way to fix this has been to hold the power button, and force a shutdown. I have never had this issue before now... And there is no resolution to this issue that I can find..My second monitor is an HP w2207, and is connected via DVI. I do have an external HDD connected and on at all times: it starts up after sleep like normal. It is an iomega 2TB eGO, firewire hdd.

So, I just had the original 300 GB hard drive fail in my aluminum 24" inch Mac running the latest update of Leopard. I wasn't able to save it using diskwarrior (diskwarrior said it was some sort of mechanical failure) but I was able to recover most of the data from it by booting from an external hard-drive.
So I went out and purchased a brand new Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drive. The install went fine, it found the drive partitioned it and installed Leopard successful. Then is crashed and disappeared when I left it alone to run all the software updates. I came back and the computer was stuck on "Restart Required" after downloading all the updates.
I went to hit restart now, and the system just hanged, wouldn't do anything. So I hard powered down the system and restarted it. It came up with nothing, just stuck on the White Screen of Death. So I plugged the external drive back in and booted from it. Mac OSX couldn't find the drive and diskwarrior would crash if I tried to run it. I tried to boot up from the OSX start-up disk and it couldn't find the drive either.
So I took the case apart and made sure all the connections were solid and the drive was mounted correctly. Everything looked fine so I plugged it in and it started up fine. Finished the updates and the iMac ran great. So I thought maybe it was overheating, so I've installed smcfancontrol and started to monitor the temp of the drive. I also took the mac apart again and sucked out any dust in the fans or vents. The drive never goes over a 105 F, so it doesn't seem to be overheating.
However, this is where the problem is consistent: everytime the iMac goes into sleep mode, it crashes and the iMac is unable to find the hard-drive again. Unless I unplug it completely for 5 minutes or so. Once I unplug it, it finds the drive and operates like a champ.
Since upgrading to 10.6.1 I've found that every time i wake my MB from sleep, applications keep quitting left and right, and I get these "application quit unexpectedly" messages. It's happened with Entourage, Safari, iTunes, Dashboard. It's getting pretty annoying. I've tried resetting the PRAM but that didn't help.
Does anybody have a clue what to do?!
Installed the update and what wasn't a problem is now a problem. The computer will not connect to wifi without me telling it to after coming out of sleep. Was not an issue with 10.7.2.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI leave my Air on pretty much all the time, and put it to sleep while moving around etc. Sleeping it disconnect the Airport connection - which if very annoying. At a desk I've just been dimming the display all the way off in order to keep my connection.
However, I recently noticed that by setting a "sleep display" hot corner, my network connection is maintained.
I have 2 questions:
1) Is sleep display equivalent (functionally) to simply dimming the display all the way down?
2) Is there a way to either set up a shortcut to sleep the display (other than a hot corner) and/or set it so that only the DISPLAY sleeps after 'x' minutes?
I set the MBP to sleep in 10 min through the Energy Saver pref with the option to sleep the hdds. When it's about to sleep the screen dims, then turns black, then the sleep light comes on but does not blink no matter how long I leave it. The blinking only happens when I close the lid or when I select the Sleep option under the Apple logo. Is that normal behavior?

It happens after display sleep or computer sleep on login not on boot up .I've noticed that i run out of ram when the problem appears (only 15MB RAM available out of 4GB), though i doesn't happen every time . I've talked to service and told me its either motherboard replacement or because the ram isn't enough (gpu shares with main ram) so maybe i should try upgrading ram. URL....

I have torrents going all the time. If the computer goes to sleep, the internet disconnects, so they stop. Display sleep wouldn't disconnect though. Is it OK to have computer sleep on "never" but keep display on "15 minutes"? I don't usually even leave the computer on overnight.

In tiger you could easily disable safe sleep and remove the sleep image file but in Leopard this seems to have changed. Yes you can disable safe sleep & remove sleep image files but only temporarily. As soon as you restart or change energy settings back to default, leopard automatically reverts the safe sleep settings to default and starts creating an image file again
Is there no way to permanently disable/remove these?
My iMac wake unexpectedly from sleep mode then goes back to sleep 00:10-00:15 later. Yosemite is current.

After doing the update to OS X 10.7.4 on my MacBook Pro, I am experiencing a few problems. First all my applications would not open any more - almost none of them - so now I am running them all in 32-bit mode. This also happened with Safari after the last update. The second problem, my sofware update is not responding anymore? When I do a software update, it fails, giving me a problem report. The report is pasted below below.Â

I am running Mac Mini as a home server (turns out to be not a great idea, btw), and even though I set the preference to never sleep or shut down, it does go to sleep when there is no activity for long time. Since I am using it as home server, it should stay awake all the time or at least wake up from sleep when there is incoming ping from other computer, but it just goes to sleep.

Sleep seems to have stopped working all of a sudden on my recently upgraded iMac. The only thing I remember doing was repairing disk permissions and changing a few iChat preferences.
The console shows the following;

iMac (24 inch Early 2009, 2.93 GHz Core 2 Duo, Lion 10.7.3) randomly goes sleep. No hot corners, never sleep setting.  It seems it goes to sleep more often when CPU is busy and graphic intensive jobs running (videos, gaming). I cleaned up air ways by vaccume, but it did not help.Â

northbridge 89C
graphic processer goes up to 86C
when it went to sleep for no apparent reason./private/var/log/kernel.log says "Previous Sleep Cause: -100"
