MacBook Pro :: DVDs / CDs Showing Up As Empty - Unburned
Feb 20, 2012
DVDs and Cds burned by my husband's iMac are showing up as empty and unburned on my MBP (model 3,1). The disk is seen, but accompanied by a burn icon, and I am offered the option to burn it but told there is no content so burning it will produce an empty disk. I saw these burned and everything seemed to be normal. The disks were given titles, which showed up on his machine, but on my MBP they are "Untitled".
I am having trouble burning DVDs. MBP 10.6.8 Never had any problem till about a week ago. I insert a known blank Sony DVD-R, the drive seems to shutter a bit more than it has in the past then the disk icon shows up on the desktop as usual. Add items, hit burn, 1 second later error message Untitled DVD cant be burned because the disc is read-only and cant be modified (error code 0x80020042), disk ejects. When I look under "About this Mac" >Disc Burning and insert a new known blank Sony DVD-R, hit refresh, and look under Media: Blank: shows NO, Erasable: shows NO, Overwritable shows No, but Appendable: show Yes. To make matters more cloudy CDs burn just fine and I can read all expected medias. Only odd thing I have done in this time period was set the computer to book into 64-bit.
The Graphite 733mhz PM G4 has only 3 ram slots. But the "fourth" one shows up on my system as "empty". Does this mean that it may be physically possible to put another ram slot in there? I'm confused by the limitation -- though I heard that Mac OS9 could only recognize up to 1.5gbs of ram.
I drag (or Command-Delete) an item to the trash and a window pops up saying, 'Are you sure you want to delete "x"? This item will be deleted immediately. You can't undo this action.
I've trawled the interweb but to no alas, and being a Mac user for over 10 years have never seen this before.
I created several calendars on my MacBook and placed them on iCloud. I can view the events on my iPad and MacBook, but when I logged onto icloud, that calendar is empty for June and July with only one event for August. Do I have to add these calendars again to the iCloud??
I spent a lot of time selecting cuts to put in my iTunes Store Wish List (had to listen to the auditions to find the right versions, etc.). Now when I go to my wish list, it says it's empty. Is there a time limit or something? I filled out the Wish List a few weeks ago.
Updated my late 2007 iMac to 10.6.2 and after that every time I pop in a DVD or CD into the optical drive it spins up and then I get a dialog box that tells me that I have put in an empty disc and the question what I want to do. Can't read them in itunes or DVD player (or any other program). Is it just coincidence that this happened just when I updated. The drive is an OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A
Been searching online for an easy way to copy DVDs to the hard drive so they can be watched without the external DVD player needed for the MacBook Air.I've converted the DVD to a .DMG file using the disk utility tool and then mounted it...but cant figure out how to make it actually execute inside of QuickTime...
I use iCloud for syning Mail & Notes. Contacts, Calendars and Documents & Data. I am 100% sure that in the past in iTunes/Info tab "Sync contacts" and "Sync Mail Accounts" showed all my different Address Book groups and different email account to be synced. Since recently they seem disappeared and I only see my different Calendars to be synced. Why are both Sync contacts empty and Sync Mail Accounts both emtpy/dimmed. BTW if I check Sync contacts I get a message that they are synced through iCloud etc. etc. Now if I enable on my Mac another email account in Apple Mail it is not added to my iPhone/iPad anymore. How can I change that ?Â

I moved a bunch of files to the trash can after installing Snow Leopard, mainly backup files from OmniFocus.
I clicked Secure Empty Trash and over 500,000 items began deleting. These 500,000+ items deleted at the rate of 2-3 items a second. This would total 138 hours equaling over 5 days to Secure Empty the trash.
This is just ridiculous in my option so I just did the "Empty Trash" feature, showing me only 350 items, which deleted quickly in under 5 minutes...
So far I know with Secure Empty Trash that the trash is securely layered with 0's & 1's....but wonder what happens with just "Empty Trash?"
How easily accessible is it for someone to retrieve something that i've deleted?
Just got a brand new uMBP (mid 2009); came with 10.6.2; migrated all my stuff from a backup of my old computer (which was running 10.5). Every program seems to run great, except that I cannot get Mactheripper (or Ripit) to rip any DVD. (My old Mid-2008 MBP, running 10.5 had no issues.) MTR opens, seems to do a rip in a very small amount of time, say 3 min when it should take 30, but says bad sectors, all that. I "reinstalled libraries," and it still failed. FWIW, Ripit fails with the burn after a few seconds. This is on more than one disc, for both MTR and Ripit, which tells me this might be about my system. The Superdrive plays DVDs fine, btw. Is there a pref file I need to trash, or something like that which might "reset" something to allow my drive to rip anything? Is this an issue with Snow Leopard? Something else in the system?
I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro that fails to mount any optical disk inserted into the SuperDrive. All the requisite check boxes are checked on for it to show mounted disks; the disks are drawn in and spin up then they just spin down and sit there until ejected using the eject button. I've inserted CDs & DVDs burned on other Macs and also a music CD and the behavior is consistent for each type.
Old Dvd's will play, But most New Dvd's will not play. I insert them and it revs up like they are loading then it kicks them out. Sometimes I can put an older dvd in to get it started and then I can eject the older dvd and then insert a new one and it will then play.
I own a macbook pro, mid 2009 and its superdrive was working fine till 3 days ago. Now, whenever I try to insert a CD or DVD, the drive doesn't read it at all and after 2'' it ejects it. I tried reseting SMC and PRAM with no luck. I also tried that "batmac" trick [hold the mac upside down] with no luck either except my neck is now damaged too..
So, two questions:
1)What could the damage be? It's not a lens thing since it doesn't even try to read the cddvd.
2)My warranty is no longer valid [expired 1 month ago..]. How much would it cost to replace it? I live in Greece and no Apple Store exists here yet. I must take it to my provider [authorized reseller], check it [don't know how much this is going to cost either] and have it replaced.
I've been trying to install OS X.5 on a new HD that I just installed into a Black MacBook... the DVDs are coming from an Aluminum MacBook. I have already formatted (Partitioned [1]) the HD so that it is in Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and it's in GUID Partition Table Scheme. I restart the Laptop and it asks me what language I want to install OS X in, I pick English, and it stalls for about 30 seconds and then says: "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer."
I own a MacBook Pro, around a year old, which is not recognising any video DVDs I insert. After putting them in, the computer makes the usual motions and sounds, but after a few seconds spits the disk out again. The disk isn't mounted on the desktop during this time, and DVD player does not launch automatically. I have tried opening DVD player myself while the computer is trying to find the disk, but there is still no result.
My MacBook has previously recognised these same disks, up to a few weeks ago when I found I might need to insert the disk two or three times before it played. CDs are still recognised by the computer (and iTunes, as well as mounting on the desktop), as are DVD-ROMs. I have tried many different DVDs, all of which play in my other Macs and DVD players.
I tried to burn a DVD for a first time on my MacBookPro and nothing is happening. I tried to burn CD and it works. I can play a DVD for ex. but I can't write? I used Verbatim DVD-R Advanced Azo +. The problem is when I clic to burn the Toast window shows preparing and after that nothing is happening, like everythings just stops. I have to restart my MBP to eject the DVD. When I put it again, it shows that is empty? Do you have any clue? I used Toast 8 Titanium.
I am running OSX 10.7.3. Yesterday all my thousands of fonts completely disappeared from Suitcase Fusion 2. I was told by Extensis that I could not get them back, but that I needed to upgrade to Fusion 3 which would be compatible with Lion. I did that. When I tried to get my stored fonts off the CDs and DVDs I'd stored them on all the CDs appeared to be blank and I got a message on the DVD that it cannot be read on my computer. (I have used all these CDs and DVDs before.)Â
I have a Macbook 10.6. I can't get my CDs or DVDs to go into the superdrive slot. I've used several disks and none of them works. It also won't allow me to get the latest super drive updates. What should I do?
