Commercial DVDs Won't Mount on Macbook Pro. How to Fix?
Info:iMovie 09, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
My white macbook (running 10.6) will not play a commercial dvd (BBC's Battlefield Britain: Boudicca's revolt ). When entering the dvd into my mac it shows a file called dvdvolume with a red warning circle in right corner of it. No files are inside the folder. The dvd plays on other dvd players.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe drive in my G5 tower will read/write commercial or blank CDs and will read/write blank DVDs, however, it will not read most commercial DVDs. When I insert them it tries to read it then after a few seconds it just spits them back out. Occasionally commercial DVDs will read and mount fine, but this seems to be rare.

I'm on a 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 with a Super-drive (though I'd rather call it something else right now!). I'm also on OS 10.3.9. The drive is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106D. The specs say it handles both +R and -R. Okay, now here's the problem (which seems to be fairly common based on other forums I've perused) lately all of the DVDs I've burned (both +R and -R) won't mount once they've been removed from the cradle. They burn fine and even mount on other drives, but not the Pioneer. CDs both burn and mount without a hitch. I've read up on firmware updates and drive cleaners, etc but most people (if not all) claim that these fixes didn't work for them. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue necessarily. Could it have to do with updating to 10.3.9? I'm vexed and bleary eyed. Hope someone smarter than me can lend a brother some love.

Been searching online for an easy way to copy DVDs to the hard drive so they can be watched without the external DVD player needed for the MacBook Air.I've converted the DVD to a .DMG file using the disk utility tool and then mounted it...but cant figure out how to make it actually execute inside of QuickTime...
Not sure why it is so difficult to get a clear-cut answer on whether the fonts that come with a mac purchase are free for commercial use.

I wish to make a backup copy of my Mad Men DVDs, each about 8GB, but I only have single-sided (4.7GB) DVD+R disks.
Is there a way to copy the DVDs to such smaller DVD+R disks and still keep the menu structure etc so that it plays in set top DVD players?
Or if I can't keep the menu structure, how can I copy individual episodes to disks (CD or DVD) so they play on set top DVD players?
I just wanna know which software be available for read blu-ray commercial disc. I know on PC there is Power DVD but I don't know if it works between cross over. Else, VLC could be great but I'm really not sure. For the info, I'll probably buy the LG internal drive (ggc-h20L). I'm been informed by LG, it can read movie commercial disc. So, I just search a software who read Blu-Ray or convert in another case if it's not possible.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have an .mp4 file, burned a DVD and tried to play it on my commercial DVD on my TV. Doesn't work at all. It works fine if I put the DVD on my MBPro. IS there a system to make it work on my commercial DVD? Sorry for the dumb question but it's my first crack at DVD burning...

Through the years I've clicked this, over and over: "If you prefer not to receive commercial email from Apple, or if you've changed your email address, please click here." I'm trying to detect a pattern. I suspect that every time our family buys a new apple product we are hit with advertisements. I recently bought a new iPod Touch. I wonder if this is why the offer from apple to leave me alone fails, over and over.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got a brand new uMBP (mid 2009); came with 10.6.2; migrated all my stuff from a backup of my old computer (which was running 10.5). Every program seems to run great, except that I cannot get Mactheripper (or Ripit) to rip any DVD. (My old Mid-2008 MBP, running 10.5 had no issues.) MTR opens, seems to do a rip in a very small amount of time, say 3 min when it should take 30, but says bad sectors, all that. I "reinstalled libraries," and it still failed. FWIW, Ripit fails with the burn after a few seconds. This is on more than one disc, for both MTR and Ripit, which tells me this might be about my system. The Superdrive plays DVDs fine, btw. Is there a pref file I need to trash, or something like that which might "reset" something to allow my drive to rip anything? Is this an issue with Snow Leopard? Something else in the system?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2011 MacBook Pro that fails to mount any optical disk inserted into the SuperDrive. All the requisite check boxes are checked on for it to show mounted disks; the disks are drawn in and spin up then they just spin down and sit there until ejected using the eject button. I've inserted CDs & DVDs burned on other Macs and also a music CD and the behavior is consistent for each type.

Old Dvd's will play, But most New Dvd's will not play. I insert them and it revs up like they are loading then it kicks them out. Sometimes I can put an older dvd in to get it started and then I can eject the older dvd and then insert a new one and it will then play.

I own a macbook pro, mid 2009 and its superdrive was working fine till 3 days ago. Now, whenever I try to insert a CD or DVD, the drive doesn't read it at all and after 2'' it ejects it. I tried reseting SMC and PRAM with no luck. I also tried that "batmac" trick [hold the mac upside down] with no luck either except my neck is now damaged too..
So, two questions:
1)What could the damage be? It's not a lens thing since it doesn't even try to read the cddvd.
2)My warranty is no longer valid [expired 1 month ago..]. How much would it cost to replace it? I live in Greece and no Apple Store exists here yet. I must take it to my provider [authorized reseller], check it [don't know how much this is going to cost either] and have it replaced.
Does anyone else have this problem? All the DVDs I put into the Super Drive have the edges torn up (i.e. they become jagged).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to install OS X.5 on a new HD that I just installed into a Black MacBook... the DVDs are coming from an Aluminum MacBook. I have already formatted (Partitioned [1]) the HD so that it is in Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and it's in GUID Partition Table Scheme. I restart the Laptop and it asks me what language I want to install OS X in, I pick English, and it stalls for about 30 seconds and then says: "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer."
View 3 Replies View RelatedI own a MacBook Pro, around a year old, which is not recognising any video DVDs I insert. After putting them in, the computer makes the usual motions and sounds, but after a few seconds spits the disk out again. The disk isn't mounted on the desktop during this time, and DVD player does not launch automatically. I have tried opening DVD player myself while the computer is trying to find the disk, but there is still no result.
My MacBook has previously recognised these same disks, up to a few weeks ago when I found I might need to insert the disk two or three times before it played. CDs are still recognised by the computer (and iTunes, as well as mounting on the desktop), as are DVD-ROMs. I have tried many different DVDs, all of which play in my other Macs and DVD players.
I tried to burn a DVD for a first time on my MacBookPro and nothing is happening. I tried to burn CD and it works. I can play a DVD for ex. but I can't write? I used Verbatim DVD-R Advanced Azo +. The problem is when I clic to burn the Toast window shows preparing and after that nothing is happening, like everythings just stops. I have to restart my MBP to eject the DVD. When I put it again, it shows that is empty? Do you have any clue? I used Toast 8 Titanium.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running OSX 10.7.3. Yesterday all my thousands of fonts completely disappeared from Suitcase Fusion 2. I was told by Extensis that I could not get them back, but that I needed to upgrade to Fusion 3 which would be compatible with Lion. I did that. When I tried to get my stored fonts off the CDs and DVDs I'd stored them on all the CDs appeared to be blank and I got a message on the DVD that it cannot be read on my computer. (I have used all these CDs and DVDs before.)

My Macbook pro will not play CDs/DVDs at all anymore. Every time I insert a CD or DVD it will accept it but then it will make odd noises and eject the CD/DVD. Is there anything I can do at home to try to solve it before I run to the apple store?

I am sure this has been asked before but I cannot find a concise answer anywhere. I have just purchased my first Apple with a Superdrive, however I find once I have purchased it that you cannot easily Multizone or reset the Multizone software for playing DVD's (nothing about this on the box or sales pitch online). Can anyone point me in the right direction to be able to multizone the drive > those of us who have jobs that move us from country to country have a large number of DVD's from the various zones.
