MacBook Pro :: Connecting To Internet Through IPhone Possible?
Aug 20, 2009
I am a first time MacBook Pro user. I bought this laptop for my business and, when on travel, will need to connect my laptop to the Internet wirelessly. Can I connect my MacBook to the Internet through my I-Phone? Will I need to add software to one or both systems (I-Phone and MacBook) to do this?
As a backup, are there any pay-as-you-go aircards that actually work on a Mac system? I have heard/read negative things about the Virgin Mobile Aircard. Bottom line is that I need reliable connectivity on occasion, thus I do not need a 1 or 2 year contract.
I am currently trying to connect my eMac - to the internet via a stick/dongle and cannot find the appropriate vodafone software to make it work.Software version 10.5 on the mac and have two internet sticks one - a Huawei K3770 and a K3571 both with VodafoneAny idea, please, on where I can download this software and anything else I can do to to make a connection to the internet? The Vodafone software runs yet does not see either device. The connection through ethernet is great.

I'm trying to connect my iPhone to my new mbp via bluetooth. The ultimate goal is being able to tether, using my different carrier profile that I have (4.0 maybe?). The thing I don't understand is that this worked legitimately like last week and then I got a new hdd and it now doesn't connect via bluetooth. If I go through the set up assistant, I can get the devices paired, but on both my computer and my iphone it says the devices are not "connected". If, on my iphone I click on MacBook Pro - Not Connected" I can see on my computer that it is connected for about 3 seconds and then it goes back to not being connected.
My Macbook Pro running on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) says i have full connection to my wifi but anytime I try to open a web page it says I am not connected to the internet. I connect to my router wirelessly. I have tried running test and the MacBook says I should have full connection to the network and internet. I have a iPhone and a HP laptop working fine with the same router but my wifi doesn't seem to work at all on my MacBook,
Suddenly, as soon as I connect my iPhone 4 to iPhoto as I've done many times up until today, iPhoto "quits unexpectedly"...I don't seem to have a 3vix folder in my Apple Support Library?

recently my mbp has not been connecting with my network to the internet. everything else connects just fine. my mbp connects just fine to other networks. but when I try to connect it to my network it fails. it says something about having a self assigned ip address. any remedies on how to fix this?
I just recently bought this MacBook. It apparently works everywhere else except on my home connection. I have a good feeling it probably has to do with my router. I have also tried to restart my macbook/router.
My computer used to connect to the internet straight away as it was turned on (wireless), but after a problem with downloading rental films with Itunes store, it has stopped connecting automatically. The fix for the film rentals was to delete a file called SC i think. I have had a dig around in all the network tabs
When I wake my two-week-old MacBook Pro up, my Airport Base Station's wireless network shows connection, but I do not have internet for a much, much longer period of time than normal. This only started a few days ago. Prior to that, it was working just fine.
I've tried closing my browser (Chrome), starting another browser (Safari), and restarting. All of these attempts have met with success and failure. Sometimes, doing nothing and waiting for ~2 minutes does the trick.I'd simply like my MBP to connect to the internet ASAP upon waking up. I did no software upgrades recently

I am trying to use mac apps and most of them won't connect to the internet even though there is full bars on internet. For example trying to register the program "paralells" just gives me the message Your mac is not connected to the internet or so on. The same thing is happening with downloading more loops and sounds on garage band.

My notebook is about to arrive and I'm trying to learn how to connect two macs to a single internet connection. I'm starting from scratch, really -- I'm learning what a router / switch / ethernet are! Ideally, it would be nice if I could keep my existing cable connection to my Imac and install a wireless connection to my notebook. But I don't know if it is possible and how to do that. I've not found clear advices on such installation, yet. Also, since I'll move in June, I searching for the cheapest solution.
I'm going to be spending a few days in the the middle of nowhere where my only option for the internet is using a landline telephone. I have no idea how this works...would this be the only thing I need?
I used to have all my data on my MacBook and since I bought the Air I started transferring everything to it. Everything was fine until I tried to hook my iphone on the usb and sync it. The iphone drops the connection with the itunes and the whole syncing progress cancels. I've tried every possible advice I found in other forums but nothing worked. I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, I tried installing earlier version of itunes, I restored my iphone (on my other mac), I manually deleted some itunes program files before reinstalling the new itunes....nothing nothing nothing. I keep getting error messages like:
"ITunes could not connect to the iphone because the pairing record is missing" "Application AppleMobileDeviceHelper quit unexpectedly" "ITunes could not connect to iphone because an invalid response was received from the device" And every time i try to restore iphone from the air i get an error(6).....
While everything works great on the old Macbook, the Macbook Air seems to have problems connecting with the phone. The funny thing is that even if the connection between iphone and itunes drops, I can still manage to "see" the iphone from "iphoto" and import pics on my Air. I really don't know what's going on here and there seems to be no one that knows what I should do. Furthermore, when i plug my scanner on the air, it doesn't respond at all. It's as if the usb slot ain't powerful enough to connect with those devices. The scanner also works great on my old Macbook.
I just bought my first Mac from ebay i'm a new user and don't know much about macs, I was using my ethernet to surf the web until my belking router comes in. So this is what I have done so far my desktop is wired to the router running XP the connection is fine and my setup is a WPA, my macbook is running 10.5.6 Lepord my router says the MB is connected to the router but I'm unable to connect to the internet. TCP/IP is set to DHCP my airport says status on, and that it has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet I've already have my MB set to share web, internet, files & printers on my network. Is there something i missed or i'm doing wrong I called belking and got no problems with the router we used many setup changes and I ran a hardware test on my MB and no problems were found.
I have connected my Aluminium Macbook (2008) to my HDTV via a Mini Display to HD port. This works fine when I mirror the image from my macbook. When I turn off mirror image however (IE effectively having two seperate screens) my internet slows down drastically. In some cases it also disconnects. This issue is resolved by turning on the mirror screen button, or unplugging the cable from the laptop.
I have a MacBook Pro with windows vista on it, and I cant get it to connect to IMac internet sharing, I can get my Mac OS to connect, but when I go on windows, I cant. When I diagnose the problem it says the wireless settings on this computer do not match the requirements if this network. I found this website: [URL] and I know how to set the imac to internet share but that last step that I have to put the internet type as "shared" on my macbook (windows) I have no clue where to find it. Its the network authentication settings, or some settings. I looked in the internet settings and idk if or where it is.
Bluetooth worked 2 days ago connecting iPhone 4s and pro. After downloading ymail the Internet feature on MacBook won't work anymore yet Bluetooth still connects. I have remove ymail and terminated the account but still no luck. I can access wifi at work and Internet is okay but can't get into the apple store anymore.
So i've had my iPhone 2G for a few years now and recently the WiFi has stopped working. Im getting it replaced on the 9th of July so thats not the problem. The problem is I would like to use the internet from my MBP through my USB cable to my iPhone. Its on 3.0 and I added the ethernet port in Network Prefs and used sharing prefs to share that port.
I recently bought an iPhone 4S and b4 that I got a 3GS.The problem is I cannot connect my iPhone to my mac for USB tethering.Synchronization is just fine with iTune and I can also tether through wireless as well.Just that i cannot tether through USB.
I'm trying to connect an iPhone to a Mac Mini via USB. The cable is known to be good. The USB ports all work with other USB devices. The iPhone works with USB devices on other computers AND if I plug it directly into the wall. When restart the computer with the iPhone plugged in, it connects while the OS is not in the ROM. As soon, however, as the OS starts to boot again, the iPhone disconnects.
I plug the iPhone in and nothing happens, including not indicating that it's charging (this is the problem). With the iPhone still plugged in, I restart the Mac. After all the open applications quit and the finder disappears, the iPhone chirps indicating that it's connected and charging. It stays charging while the Mac cycles through the rest of the restart. When, however, the Mac gets to the point where it starts booting the OS, the iPhone chirps again indicating that it's been disconnected.
I am having trouble connecting my iPhone to my MBP via Bluetooth. Both devices are paired, I have entered the code that the MBP has asked me to input into the iPhone. Both devices are paired to each other yet they are not connected. For the most part I have never had any kind of luck using bluetooth on any device except for the Mighty Mouse I just bought.
Safari on my 2.16ghz c2d Macbook has ground to a halt all of a sudden. Takes around 30/40 seconds to change between pages on the Forums here, for example. I thought this might just be a Safari 4 bug, but having the same (in fact slightly worse) experience with firefox. Odd thing is that my iPhone, on the same wirelss network is performing at normal (i.e. much faster) speeds. Running 10.5.7, no new apps, downloads or plug-ins, and I've reset safari & rebooted. Even repaired disk permissions. No improvement.
I have just got a new iMac and I proceeded to sign into my iTunes account and download all my music to my music library. I had a clear out and also purchased a few more albums so the library on my iPhone now looks pretty much nothing like the one on the mac. I'm trying to sync it but it won't sync, someone said something about needing to register my iPhone with the iMac or something
When I connect my iPad or iPhone to Macbook Pro running 10.9.4 I get the dreaded beach ball. On right clicking iTunes in dock I can see that iTunes is not responding. I have updated iTunes to 11.3.1.
I'm an iBook G4 user. I've had my computer for about 4 years and never had any problems, but in the past two weeks, I've been experiencing a lot of difficulty with my internet.
The problem's got to be with airport, because I'm connected right now with an ethernet cable and am having no issues.
Using my airport, I can still usually connect to the internet-- in fact, when I first connect to a wireless network, I have strong signal strength-- but I lose my internet connection after just a few minutes.
When I click on "Open internet connect," I can often reconnect to the network, but then I get the error message "out of range of network" and am booted off again.
This has happened to me on two separate internet networks-- both in my home and at the library-- so I think the problem is with my computer, not the signal.
There's not any physical object blocking the signal as far as I can see, and I've been able to use this wireless network in the past without any problems. (It's my partner's network and is and password protected, so it's not like I'm stealing it from someone next door or something.)
I'm running Mac OS X.
I've looked at getting airport express, but I don't want to pay money for something that may or may not fix the problem.
I have had non stop trouble with my internet connection. I use Tiscali in the UK via a Netgear router and an Airport Extreme (the UFO shaped one). I now cannot access the web again and have been told by Tiscali that they do not provide technical help for either Apple or Netgear. A couple of questions. What is the benefit of using a router and airport extreme? Who is the best broadband provider for mac in the UK?
