View 1 RepliesWhen I close the lid to my mid-2009 13in. MBP, it powers off. It is not sleeping or hibernating. When I open it, I must press the power button to boot up the computer again. This does not happen when the charger is plugged in. I have reset the SMC and PRAM.

In my earlier version of Safari, if I opened a new web page, it just replaced the earlier one, now though the new pages just keep accumulating. T

I was just browsing on Safari when I went to a website and this mackeeper pop up ad came up. It tells me that to keep my mac safe or whatever, I have to install this mackeeper thing. I knew it was a virus so I was trying to figure out how to close it but there is no option to close it, the only option is to click ok. i've tried command+w and that doesn't work either. I have also tried to force quit safari but when I open up safari again, it re-opens the tab. i got my macbook in january of this year, i really don't want it to get a virus lol.

All of a sudden, my MacBook Pro has stopped going to sleep when I close the lid. Instead, the indicator light on the front stays on steadily. When I then open the lid, I am asked to log in again, but before I can type anything, the window goes completely black. My only choice at this point has been to hold the power button down long enough to shut the laptop off. Then I wait a minute or so before restarting. Is there a setting I need to check to prevent all of this from happening? I have tried restarting in Safe Mode, then restarting normally, but still the laptop will not go to sleep when I close the lid.

Whenever I close the lid, my mac seems to turn off. Once I open it the screen will be a greyish hue (you can still see the windows and desktop) but there is a loading bar with a number of small vertical bars. This happens whenever I close the lid leave it for a while (1 - 2 minutes). What is this and how do I fix it?

I'm having a strange problem with my MacBook Pro. I just began using it with a second display (with the lid open, of course), and ever since I started doing that, my laptop will intermittently not sleep when I close the lid (while it's disconnected from the display). What happens is that I close the lid and the Apple logo becomes dark, indicating that the display is off. The white light on the front stays on, however, and then, suddenly the Apple logo on the lid will light up again. After this, one of two things can happen. Most of the time, the screen and the computer both go to sleep after about 30-45 seconds. Sometimes, however, it seems to get stuck with both the display and computer on. This concerns me because I travel a lot, and I worry that the computer will overheat in the bag if I put it in while it hasn't gone to sleep.Â

I connected the cable to my WS external LCD and I can't get it to fill up the whole screen. I normally set my screen to 1080X1050 under Vista. When I set that under my Macbook I only get small screen in the middle of my monitor.
Second question. I press F7 to get the picture to display on my monitor. When I close the macbook I lost the signal. Do I have to wait until the Macbook go into sleep mode before I can close it?
I know you have to download Insomnia to always keep it on, whether you close the lid or not, but I thought that you could close the lid when it's connected to a display (new Toshiba 37" 1080p LCD), it doesn't go to sleep. Where is the setting for this so I can prevent this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just realized that the Unobody MacBook (later 08) does not close properly. It's kind of hard to move the lid (compared to my UMBP) and the magnet is not strong enough to keep it closed.

What shall I do?
I'm a Mac Pro guy and this is my first Mac laptop. How do I make it so nothing happens when I close the lid? Not using external display or anything. Sometimes it's just nice to be able to close the laptop when moving from place to place, I just don't see the need to sleep the machine when I do so. I do this on my Acer laptop all the time.
