what the difference is between the commands 'close window' and 'close all windows'? They seem to me to both have the same effect. In my earlier version of Safari, if I opened a new web page, it just replaced the earlier one, now though the new pages just keep accumulating. T

View 2 Replies View RelatedSafari has frozen after I tried to quit it, I can't open or close any programs, force quit, use shortcuts or use any open programs as the safari bar still appears at the top of the screen, I would force shut down but I've got an after effects project open.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMost programs in OS X stay open when you close them (when you click the red X button) unless you specifically close them from the dock. I think Safari 3 used to have this functionality but now when I close Safari, it "quits" as in all my open tabs are closed. However Safari stays open.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy copy of Safari keeps resetting every time I close it. I lose bookmarks, history and extensions. This started in Leopard. It keeps giving me the copy I get after a fresh install of Safari, with the default bookmark tabs, every time i open it.
I deleted Safari using AppCleaner, then I reinstalled Safari after downloading it from Apple, both before and after the upgrade to Snow Leopard, all the way to 10.6.4. I have fixed and repaired permissions. Completely baffled. Only extension I use is clicktoFlash. Happens even if no extension installed. Examined plist file, keeps defaulting to the copy on first install.
I find Firefox too slow and Chrome still needs work. I loved Safari until this started happening. Just want it to keep my bookmarks and tabs after each open.
Nine times out of ten, when I wake my Imac from sleep, I get a notification that Safari stopped my shut-down (?) and then a second one asking if I'm sure I want to close the open Safari windows. Also, if Itunes was open when I put the machine to sleep, it's almost always closed when I wake it up.

This is not a crash, as I get no message. Every time I am done browsing, I close the window, and when I want to reopen a window, I have to relaunch Safari. Usually, the screensaver has started when I come back to my computer, but it has happened while my computer was active also.

You can close or dismiss tabs in Safari with the X on the tab until you get to the last one. How can I dismiss the content there and get a blank page, similar to the way Safari in iOS 5 works.

How do you close multiple tabs at the same time? Is there a "close all other tabs" command?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWill window.close(); or self.close(); javascript function work in mac machine safari browser. What is the workaround for this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've created an extension for Safari which does exactly what you want. It closes all the tabs except for the tab that is currently active. As a side effect you can also change a setting which when enabled will on pressing the button ask you if you really want that (to prevent accidental button presses). You can find the extension on the extensions page of Safari.
I will be adding functionality soon: Context menu options will be added so that you can create a white list of websites that you don't want to have closed upon clicking the Close All Tabs button. This can be convenient if you, just like me, have a number of tabs open with websites you never close. For example, I always have my GMail open and another page I am working on. All the other tabs can in most cases be closed all at once at some point, however I don't want it to close my GMail and currently active tab.
First, I am fully aware of the two plug-ins that have both of these features. SafariStand and Glims. I'd prefer not to use SafariStand, and I don't want to use Glims (buggy). I'm not here to debate their merits. The features I want are for Safari's download manager to close automatically, and for all links to automatically open in new tabs.
What I'm wondering is: are there any other plug-ins that offer these features for Safari 4 running Snow Leopard? Are there any tweaks to the system that don't involve plug-ins? As in, are there some terminal commands that can emulate these settings somehow?
How do I close a safari window without closing the whole program, and not using control quit?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to close safari using the red dot at the top left hand side of the screen instead of the window closing it opens a new blank safari window. Infact the same happens when I click the amber and green buttons also.
I recently have had to system updates (last night and today). Last night I also had a problem that has fixed itself where pressing the command + Q buttons would not clos safari and the "Quit safari" in in the safari drop down was greyed out. As I say the later isue has fixed itself after I force closed and the updates loaded on. Not sure if the two issues are connected.
I have the latest update for Safari on my MacBook Pro 17" (running the latest Lion update). Lately, the command-Q (quit) option under the File menu is greyed out/not available. I tried using the Quit function from the dock icon for Safari--no good, either. I have to Force Quit in order to close Safari.
