MacBook :: Charger Working Intermittently / LED Blinking 3x On Startup?
Mar 21, 2010I acquired a Unibody MacBook that experienced a little water damage. The logic board was definitely shot, so I replaced that yesterday and initially the machine was working like a champ, save for a few issues:
1. The machine tries charging my battery, but eventually gives up and decides that there is no battery in the machine (there is a battery in there, and it shouldn't be dead yet, should it?)
2. I've been experiencing an issue in which the MacBook and charger aren't getting along. I've got two different chargers, both of which work on my pre-Unibody MBP consistently but sometimes I'll plug one into the MacBook and get no light, and in other cases I'll plug it in and get just a very faint green light. In either case, the machine won't start up. I usually tinker with the machine for a few minutes, taking the back plate off and checking connections, waiting a few minutes, and it's back up again.
3. Before the machine starts up, the LED blinks three times. I initially thought this was just a blink pattern to notify the user that the logic board doesn't have a serial number yet, but I've run the serializer and entered a SN in, and it still does that. Is this normal for these Macs?
I know that these MacBooks are a little more intricately tied to the battery than previous Macs. Does anyone think the above problems (at least 1 and 2) would be solved by a replacement battery? Or does it sound like something else is wrong (perhaps the DC in board)? I've never heard of anyone needing to replace a Magsafe DC in board (and from their low prices online, I'm led to believe that they rarely fail).
MacBook :: Continuous Orange Blinking Light On Charger?
Aug 7, 2010I put my MacBook on charge but nothing happened there was no orange or green light and in the top right hand corner it said 'not charging' . I tried it a few more times and then the led just flicked from green to orange so I shut the mac down just before it ran out of battery. I then borrowed my friends macbok charger the same power as my other one but now the led just flashes orange and as it mac won't turn on I guess it's not charging it properly.

Aug 11, 2010The Apple one looks tempting as it comes with 6 batteries and 29€ isn't too much, plus, as usual, it looks brilliant. I looked at some 3rd party chargers as well ranging from 20€ to 40€. None of them was stunning or special by any means. Cheaper ones usually came with two or four batteries and some came without batteries. I don't really need it for else than Magic Mouse, occasionally for something else too.

Jan 12, 2009I've had this 2.0 Ghz 1gb ram Macbook since September 2007 and this was the first time I've ever had any problemas with it. So let me start from the beginning.
It all started this year. One day I picked up my Macbook and turned it on and I noticed that the screen was blinking quite a lot... then it started to get worse to a point I got really worried and it started to annoy me. Sometimes I'd boot it and Leopard would be changing my wallpaper every second (it's supposed to change my wallpaper everyday according to what I've setup in system preferences). While blinking the colors would get messed up and when I closed the Macbook and let it on, sleeping, I'd open it and it would be on the blue screen as if I had just turned it on.
It's worth mentioning that I was running a version of Leopard I downloaded from a torrent and had installed it from an external hard drive. So I thought I should try to format the machine, erasing everything and installing a new and original version of Tiger. Once I installed AND got all updates installed as well it was running perfectly. The blinking had gone away.
Yesterday I installed some new updates, booted and used it fine. Today I turned it on and it won't go past the blue screen and the apple logo won't show up as well. My Macbook just won't boot... I've tried booting on safe mode, booting with the tiger dvd on, i've tried resetting the pram and everything else I could do. The apple logo won't seem to appear and the machine won't boot.
First the blinking screen and now it won't boot.
Any other suggestions besides taking it to a support store? It's worth mentioning as well that I live in Brazil and support to Apple computers isn't as great and cheap as it is in the US. I've had this Macbook for less than 1 and a half year.
OS X :: MacBook Pro Light Not Blinking On Sleep?
Feb 15, 2009I have the older MacBook Pro with the sleep light on the front button that attaches the screen to the main computer. I noticed that the light no longer blinks when it is on sleep. I recently upgraded my internal HD and have no idea if that could have caused it or not. I guess, since my Mac is three years old, there is also the possibility that the light just got old and went out.

Apr 28, 2012ive noticed a small glitch during the startup of my macbook pro. Whenever I log into my account before it displays my desktop, a window flashes for a split second that has 2 options to choose from (It looks like whenever my cubase crashes and it prompts me with the options "Reopen" or "Sent report" or something like that) I never manage to exactly see what this window is as I cant read it in time, let alone choose an option. It just switches off quickly. All software updates are recent, and this really bothers me. I dont know what it is. Could it be a virus? Im very careful with what I download online, let alone the websites I visit. The OS itself works fast and on track.I decided to run disk utility and check the hard disk for errors. Turns out there were a few permission errors, and disk errors where it said my MacOSX volume is corrupted. Ive only had this laptop for 6 months, I dont want to send it in to apple just yet. I've run lion recovery since after a backup and fixed the permission and disk errors, then re-verified them and it said everything was now fixed and fine. I restarted and that window STILL flashed.

MacBook Pro :: Started Getting The Blinking Folder On Startup
Jan 3, 2011So I kinda want to explain my saga of my (late 2009) Macbook Pro.
I got the first generation of the MBP shortly after it came out.... I actually purchased it on Black Friday.
Anyhoo-
-The specs:
-15" Glossy Screen
-2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Due
-2 GB 1064 MHz DDR3
-NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
-Toshiba 250gb HDD
(So as you can see, pretty basic machine.)
Anyway, I'd only had the computer a few months when I started getting the blinking folder on startup. I brought it in, and they verified the HDD was going bad, so they gave me a new HDD. About a month later, I had the same problem happen again. The "Genius" I talked to said it was probably my Logic Board, so they replaced that. However, after getting my computer back from the shop, on my first startup, I got the blinking folder. So I TOOK it back AGAIN, and they replaced my HDD again.
A few months later, I started having issues with both the HDD not spinning up and my USB affecting my iSight camera (weird I know) so I brought it in again, and they finally just replaced my whole computer.
Everything worked great for a while, until once again, I started getting the flashing folder on startup, I took it in and they replaced my HDD again. (Yeah, this is like HDD number 3 for me now)
Since then, I have had the HDD replaced two other times, along with my superdrive, and MagSafe adapter.......I'm not exactly liked at my local Apple Store.... they know me by name... I don't exactly like going there anymore...
I also want to note that I literally baby my computer; I almost polish it daily, and am extremely careful with it
So my current list of repairs looks like this:
� 5 HDD replacements
� New Logic Board
� New Super Drive
� MagSafe adapter
� New Computer
ALL that being said, I plan to sell my computer as soon as Apple Care expires; I can't risk having a flakey computer on my hands... I can't afford to pay for all the repairs. My Apple Care will expire next December, so I'm hoping I can sell it around late December- early January and be just in time for the new MBP refresh, which I'm hoping that year will include possible:
Slight redesign
Lighter computer (in weight)
Faster (of course)
Possibly retina display
Why I'm posting all this is mainly just because I wanted to hear if anyone else has had anything similar happen to them.... I'm a sucker for when it comes to first generation Apple stuff, but now I know.

Jul 29, 2009My macbook is about two years old and recently have encountered problems. When I turn on the computer all I see is a blinking folder and question mark. I have tried putting in the install cd but it does not work. I try to reinstall mac os x but it tells me it could not be done. I have tried repairing the disk and numerous other things. I did not have anything truly important on the computer so I am not worried if I lose it.

Feb 13, 2010I had only Windows 7 on my HDD for the past few months. I wanted to reinstall mac osx so I restarted it and tried to install it on a partition I made in 7 but to no avail. The disc reformatted the HDD as BOOTCAMP with the old data on it and I lost the extra partition. I placed the HDD in an exernal bay that I have. I backed up what I needed and reformatted. It's being read as G: (NTFS) on my PC and it works. I rebooted witht eh DVD in to reinstall MAC and redo the BOOTCAMP system but the blinking folder comes up.

Aug 26, 2014I have an 8TB 4big Quadra with 4 bays. It's been running good for more than a year now. Today, the rear LED of the last drive is blinking red/blue red/blue. The drive seems to be working. My drive have only 1 big blue light in the front and one little blue LED for each disc at the back so I always had 5 blue lights on. Now I have only 4 blue and a red/blue blinking.
The drive is hooked up to my MBP running all the latest software.

Hardware :: MacBook Sleep Mode And Blinking Light?
Aug 9, 2008I have the new 2.4 GHz MacBook model since last Thursday, and something throws me off a little bit.
When I close the lid, putting the MacBook to sleep, I can still hear the inner workings (fan, maybe hdd) of the laptop for a while. And the light doesn't blink softly and slow like it did on the iBook.
As I come from the iBook, I was used to wait one to ten seconds to get it to sleep after the lid was closed, and the blinking light showed me it was asleep. But the MacBook's doesn't.
Is that normal?
PS: I made two tests. It took 28 seconds until the light started pulsing, shortly after the fan stopped spinning and the hard drive reading/writing head (?) stopped in its safe position.

Sep 22, 2010White MB about three years old. Was watching something on Hulu and HDD started making strange noises and screen froze. Forced reboot and only got white screen. Couldn't even get into single user mode. Got a new WD hard drive thinking it would fix the problem. Put in my backup of the Install Disk (lost the original like an idiot) but all it shows when I hold down the C key is a large blinking folder icon with a question mark on it. Still can't get into single user mode. I may have screwed up the backup of the Install Disk or am using the wrong DVD since I forgot to label it.

Dec 1, 2007I've got a nasty issue with my 13-mo. old MacBook.
I'm pretty sure it's a dead logic board and possibly a dead hard drive, which I really, really, really hope not as I don't have backups of everything on the drive. I just upgraded to Leopard this past week and did a clean install so not all of my stuff is setup yet.
Power adapter and battery are inserted. All 3rd party peripherals and RAM have been removed.
MacBook does not chime at boot. The screen flickers, but stays black. If I hold down the power button then try to let it boot the light on the front right flashes constantly (like when it's sleeping but a faster pace), like a turn signal on a car. I can hear the cd-rom drive whining but everything else is dead silent.
I've done everything here with the exception of calling Apple.[URL]
I've also tried FW Target Disk Mode, but the MacBook drive does not show up.
I've done everything I can think of and I'm out of ideas at this point.
Additionally, there's a cd-rom (Tiger Restore CD) stuck in the drive. Holding down the mouse button during restart does not eject this CD. Where is the force eject button (I see no pinhole)?
I have business documents, emails, etc. that I HAVE TO get off this hard drive. How can I do it? I don't have a 2.5" drive enclosure but if that will solve the situation I will pick one up asap.

May 20, 2009I Don't have a lot of knowledge of computers so I apologize if any of this doesn't make sense. I have an exactly 2 year old White Macbook. To make it short....screen froze....restarted...eventually got blinking folder with question mark. Tried all the various ways/modes (safe,single,etc) to restart the computer and nothing. Read the macbook booklet and it said to enter the Mac OS X disk 1 and I did that. It eventually worked, the disk that is. Went to Disk Utility and tried to repair Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and get ERROR:No valid packages. In the column of choices there are 3 other options for me to click and repair. I don't know if these options are confidential and need to be kept private but I will omit some of the numbers/ letters. These are the other 3 options: GB Hitachi HTS....( this is what I get when I try to repair: Invalid B-tree node size Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit......also.. 1 HFS Volume checked .....Volume needs repair disk0s2 ......this option when I try to repair gives the same exact error as the one above. GB MATSHITA.... this option gives the same response as when I try to repair the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 ......ERROR:No valid packages. Also I tried to reinstall Mac OS X by following the installer and clicked English and then get to Select a destination volume to install the Mac OS X software and there are NO options available for me to click. I am so desperate right now.

Feb 12, 2012I have the infamous bugged model, the Late 2008 Macbook Pro. Famous for its screen flickering on the 9400M Nvidia graphics card.
I am currently using the 9600GT Nvidia card, and have some across a few... problems. First of which: Hard Freezing. I know this will happen occasionally, but I had to shut down my computer 3 times in 4 days because of a hard freeze. 2 of the times, the hard freeze was accompanied by my screen just going absolutely CRAZY.
Here is a slight example of what it's doing, but it's not exact (since both times it did something different):

Both times, before the hard freeze and flickering, my iStat Pro told me my CPU temp was between 99 degrees Fahrenheit and 103 degrees Fahrenheit. I am wondering if these low temperatures could have ANYTHING to do with the freezing. This problem has just cropped up recently, and I have never had such low temperatures on my mac. I have Fan Control installed because my fans on my laptop weren't cooling off my laptop well enough... the 9600M GT card runs really hot.

MacBook Pro :: It Won't Charge - MagSafe Blinking Green Light Inconsistently
Feb 25, 2012A few hours ago my MBP (15" from January 2011) had almost no battery, so I plugged in the charger - but nothing happened. No green or orange light - or indicator on finder. I went to System Information which confirmed that it had 0% battery left and it wasn't charging, even with the MagSafe correctly plugged in.
I checked the wall connector and it's functioning well on other devices. The battery eventually died and now my macbook won't turn on. The light on the adapter and on the side of the notebook flashes green inconsistently. It won't turn on since it has no battery. I've tried reseting the SMC but nothing happend.
