MacBook Pro :: Battery Performance On Sims3 Vs Flash Games

Oct 19, 2009

I am planning to buy a new 13" MBP but I am kind of concerned on the battery performance.
Specs:
a) 2.26 GHz CPU
b) Upgrade RAM to 4GB
c) Upgrade HD to 500GB 5400 WD
d) Brightness at 70% / with keyboard backlight / Bluetooth OFF

Questions: (Can you give me an estimate on the following)
1) How long will the battery last if I play Facebook games nonstop (poker / mafia wars / cafe world / etc.)
2) How long will the battery last if I play Sims3 nonstop?
3) How long will the battery last if I watch a DVD movie nonstop? (from the drive)
4) How long will the battery last if I type documents nonstop?
BTW, can this MBP 13" play sims3 in the default normal settings?

MacBook Air :: Installing Flash Decreases Battery Performance?

Nov 26, 2010

I know that Flash uses more battery power. However is that only when you are actually using a window that needs Flash. Does just installing it decrease your battery performance in any way? I am running into lots of sites that require Flash and I would like to install it but not at the risk of severely limiting my battery usage when not actually using it.

MacBook Pro :: Using Unibody MBP 13" - Performance In Games?

Jan 4, 2010

Well anyway, I got this MBP about 3 or 4 weeks ago. It runs great so far, but when I play a game, it will run fine, then about 10 to 15 minutes after I start, the performance will drop below 50% of what it was, then 10 minutes later, it seems to speed up again.

I've also noticed it seems to kick up performance again once the fan comes on.

So is this normal or some odd coincidence. Also, is there anyway I could prevent this period of low performance from happening.

MacBook Pro :: Why Does Run So Slow On Flash Games

Sep 7, 2010

I have recently purchased a second hand MBP from a friend, its one of the older models with the silver keyboard, has 2.33 GHz intel core duo processor, 2GB ram, 160GB HD and runs fine. I have one problem though, when I load flash games or when I try to play a flash game it slows right down and runs slower than crawling speed. Is there any way I can speed it up or will it always be like this?

MacBook Pro :: Flash Games Extremely Lagging

Nov 19, 2010

Not sure why, but during the last couple of days flash games have been lagging on my 13" MBP to the extreme. My MBP has 4GB of RAM and was built in late 2009. It has only been doing this for the last couple of days. Before that flash games were fine, no lag at all. But recently they lag even when I've just started playing. Right from square one.

Mac Pro :: Added RAM And Performance Drops In Games?

Sep 16, 2008

I bought the vanilla octo-2.8 early 08 Mac Pro back in January. (I've since added in the nVidia 8800GT and a couple 500GB harddrives). As many of you know it's a beautiful machine and I've had very few problems with it. I play World of Warcraft and have recently delved into the world of dual-boxing to take advantage of a triple XP bonus currently available. Running two instances of WoW from separate install locations worked fine. But I found that I was hitting a limit. I couldn't really use iTunes while playing without taking a noticeable hit to the games' performance. So I did the logical thing in this situation: I bought more RAM. Specifically a 2GB kit (KTA-MP800K2/2G) from Kingston.

At first I had them in the wrong configuration. Since the default location for the 2GB that come with the Mac Pro are in slot 1 of each riser, I put the new sticks in slot 2 on each riser. I saw ECC errors and a very odd framerate issue in-game. After about 15 minutes, one instance of WoW would run at 60fps (v-sync is enabled) and the other instance on the secondary monitor would drop to 2-5fps. They would stay like this for about a minute then the framerates would swap: the primary monitor would tank to about 2fps and the secondary would fly up to 60fps. I stopped playing, read up on the RAM placement and found out that the pairs need to be on each riser together. I put the Apple RAM on riser 1 in slots 1 and 2, the Kingston on riser 2, slots 1 and 2. Same story. ECC errors and alternating horrible performance. I then tried swapping the RAM locations and put the Kingston on riser 1, Apple on riser two. I also reset the PRAM as I read that might clear any ECC error issues when installing new RAM. In this setup I had no ECC errors. The framerate issues were still happening though.

At first I thought it was bad RAM. But when placing them on riser 1 I see no errors. My other thoughts are a bad riser board or overheating. Although I've never had heat problems and the RAM seems to work fine if the Kingston in on riser 1.

MacBook Pro :: Flash 10.1 On 13" MBP Performance?

Aug 21, 2010

Is it just me or is Flash 10.1 a huge steaming pile of poo?

I hate Flash to begin with and have click2flash installed but thought i'd cut Adobe a break and give them the benefit of the doubt that they would improve the performance of Flash.

However since I have installed it it takes Safari about 20 seconds to become responsive on a page that contains Flash. If I try and quit, it hangs and then becomes responsive but doesn't quit.

They really are crap at what they do. Unfortunately i cant just get rid of flash because its so engrained in the web so I will have to learn to live with as best I can until it finally dies off.

This was my final attempt at giving flash a go and its proved even worse than before. I wont be making efforts to view Flash sites or sections on sites if its in flash anymore. If the website creator cant open up their content to me i wont be sticking around.

Mac Pro :: Dual Graphics Card - Better Performance When Playing Games?

Feb 27, 2009

I have a 2 x 2GHz Dual Core Intel Mac Pro, with 9GB of DDR2 RAM and 2 Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT graphic cards each running a Samsung 24 inch screen. I recently bought Call of Duty 4 and found that the game runs terribly on anything higher then around medium sort of settings. I know the 7300 Graphic cards aren't the best for gaming, but they have done the job for me perfectly until now. I'm a photographer so I calibrate my screens with a Spyder and run a separate colour profile through each video card per screen, and its always calibrated perfectly.

I'm just curious if there is any actual performance advantage of having 2 video cards other then running a separate colour profile through each card? So for example, If I'm playing call of duty and only 1 screen is displaying information, does the other card just sit there, or does it jump on board and process information for the game being played? Because I would have thought having 2 7300's would somewhat give better performance during gaming then just the one?

MacBook Air :: New MBA 13" Battery Performance

Just wondering what the norm is in terms of where my battery levels should be. When I first received my MBA 2 weeks ago, the full charge mAh capacity was around 7100. Now after 6 cycles, the full charge max mAh is 6678.

Is this normal for the max to drop so much after only 6 cycles? Just wondering what others are experiencing in terms of battery performance.

MacBook :: Poor Wi-Fi Performance When Using Battery?

Aug 15, 2009

I have a MacBook (late 2007) and I've noticed that my internet crawls when I'm using the laptops battery power. I can be downloading a file at 200 kB/s under A/C power, and as soon as it goes on to the battery it'll drop to 10 kB/s. I'm assuming some kind of power saving is being activated, but this has only happened recently. Around the same time this started happening, I updated my computer to 10.5.8 and I also turned in my computer to the Apple store to have the palm rests replaced for having cracked under the weight of the lcd. Would this problem be caused by either the update or the repair, and if not, what could be causing it?

MacBook Pro :: Does Increasing RAM Affect Battery Performance

Mar 29, 2012

increasing the amount of RAM in a MacBook Pro (latest model unibody 15" i7 processor). If I increase the amount of RAM in this laptop from 4Gb to16 Gb, should that in and of itself result in a decrease in battery performance? This is assuming no increase in number of active programs, etc. A friend of mine was told by an Apple employee that just increasing the total RAM in a laptop would result in the battery draining more quickly. I am no computer genius, but that does not sound right to me? After all, why should the battery work harder if the excess RAM is not being used at the time.

MacBook :: X Over Battery Icon And The Fan Is Running Even Though No Heavy Duty Performance?

May 20, 2012

Earlier today, maybe around 3PM, I was using my laptop, and it was charging and it was maybe around 60% battety life when out of no where it just shut off and even the light on my charger went out. When I turned it back on, the fan was running and there was an X over the battery icon. I've tried turning it off and on, and leaving it alone for a few hours, to see if it would resolve the problem but it didn't.  It is currently 9:52PM, I'm still experiencing these problems and I'm using the exact laptop to type this, but I don't know how much battery life is left.

OS X :: Slow Flash Performance On PPC G5?

The PC that I'm typing on is a $300 Toshiba with a celeron processor but it does a great job with flash (safari/firefox/IE across the board). Is there a remedy for this? I googled one tip that said to disable hardware acceleration, but it didn't make a difference. When I opened up the Activity Monitor, processor usage was up to 100-150%, so something is not right, the G5 should chew through this.

Mac Pro :: Flash Video Performance On ATI 4870

Sep 1, 2009

Today I just bought and installed an (Apple) ATI 4870 for my '06 Mac Pro. It's all gone pretty smoothly, however I have noticed that flash video playback from sites such as Youtube and Vimeo are jerky. Have I missed something about installing a 4870 into an older MP? I thought it was basically plug and play - even though it's not officially supported by Apple. Quicktime movies are nice and smooth. This is under Snow Leopard, so I'm not sure if the problem exists under Leopard but I could probably move my last bootable backup drive into an enclosure with firewire and check things out.

OS X :: Flash Performance In Snow Leopard In Different Browsers?

Aug 30, 2009

I just noticed that playing YouTube Video in Safari or Google Chrome the CPU usage is not less than 70-75 % on both cores ( MacBook 2.4ghz unibody with SL 10A432 32bit kernel ).

On Firefox the CPU usage on the same YouTube video is no more than 40-45% on both cores.

Anyone else notice this ?

I guess it may happen because flash plugin is 32 bit and used in some sort of sandbox in Safari now because Safari is 64bit and flash plugin is 32 bit ( in Chrome everything run in sanbox and I got the same CPU usage on Leopard ).

Firefox is 32 bit application as Flash is and I'm guessing thats why it uses less CPU.
