MacBook Pro :: Battery Not Recognized After Being Fully Drained?
Mar 26, 2012
I was working late and let my battery drain while working. The computer shut down. I immediately plugged it in but the light on the power adapter didn't turn on (either orange or green) I tried other plugging it into other outlets. Nothing. I left it plugged in all night. Nothing. No light on the adapter and the computer isn't working.

My MacBook Pro is just under a year old.I don't do a lot of strenuous stuff... just internet, iWork documents, Sims 3, etc.The battery has been fine up until now, but on two seperate occasions it has completely drained in a matter of minutes. On the first occasion I left the MacBook open on my desk.No applications were open, just the desktop. Battery was at 98% after a full night's charge.I come back an hour later to find the computer completely unresponsive until I plug in the charger chord. It had completely drained. On the second occasion I was at 52% battery.I loaded up The Sims 3 and went to take a shower, planning to play when I got out. When I get out of the shower TEN MINUTES later, the computer was dead... once again completely drained.I know the game is a total battery hog, but I can usually get about an hour of gameplay with 52% battery.

rMBP charged overnight and I woke up at 7am and disconnected it, it is 9:30am and my battery is already at 34%. What ca I do? Only running Safari although a good portion of the morning was youtube videos. Still with some YT video playbacks here and there, should it drain this quickly?

Earlier this morning, I was using battery power until the power drained quickly and unexpectedly. Once it shut down automatically, I could not turn it back on. It does not run on AC charge or battery. The mag-safe light is only a faint green, and I have reset my PMU. I'm hoping to not have to take it to Apple as it's warranty ran out about two months ago.

I just popped in a brand new 15-inch MBP (square) battery into my 2008 MBP with Lion 10.7.4. It has drained to 84% in about 15 minutes. Is it a defective battery or a problem with calibration?

I have read about Macbook Pro batteries from apple.com. I use to talk to many people and ask about batteries which brought me upto this confusion. Well, my question is, should i charge macbook pro when it's battery is completely drained or it's okay to charge at any time as long as it's not at 100%? For example, I wanna start charging it while its 60% and make it to 100% or Don't charge it until battery reaches to 5 or 10 percent.

I got my first Mac last Sunday (woo!) but I was using it last night and a battery warning came up. I had been using the MBP, then turned it off and went out with battery still remaining. When I came back again a few hours later I used the Mac and after about 10 mins closed the lid for some reason. When I opened it back up it wouldn't start unless I plugged in the power outlet - the thing had completely drained. Then I checked the battery and it says to 'Service Battery'. It's now holding a charge as normal as far as I can see but the warning is still there.
A couple of other things I notice too:
- When I tilt the MBP to the right sometimes a scraping noise comes from the inside - maybe from a fan?
- When I pick it up from the bottom, the bottom of the Mac dips inwards slightly and there is a click as it makes contact with something on the inside of the case.
Are these things normal? I've made a Genius Bar reservation but I think I might just swap it for a new one.

I just got a new macbook air, it was working fine for a couple of days until yesterday.
The battery seems to be stuck at 98% - or was. I rebooted because I started to lag, and was updating, then I unplugged it and plugged it back in, then it went down to 97%. What confuses me is the fact it had been plugged in (while shut off), for about 8 hours and it should have been charged by the time I got around to using it. When I right click on the battery icon, it says the computer is fully charged.

I would like to know the average battery life after each fully charged (especially when you just bought the unit).
I can only get 4:16hrs each time.

So today I was using my MBP that I got about a week ago and all of a sudden I got a low battery message. My MBP was plugged in at the time, and had been plugged in for about the last two days. AC adapter was plugged in and very hot i might add. MagSafe never got disconnected. After I clicked ok on the low battery message my MBP just started charging like I'd been using it on battery power and just plugged it in. I know there was no power outage or anything like that, all my computer stuff is plugged in to a UPS that beeps if it looses power and switches to the UPS battery power. I shut my MBP down when I went to work and when I came back it took a good min before it made the powering on noise and the apple appeared. I checked my battery health and capacity through the system profiler and the condition is normal and it has 7 cycles on it.

I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!

I've heard that if I don't disconnect the charger after my macbook is fully charged then the battery life and performance will get reduced and will be weaker.

"Does it harm the battery or reduce battery life, to use the AC adaptor for extended periods while the battery is fully charged?"Someone answered, "I would have to disagree with the others who say that it hurts your battery & reduces battery life by keeping your AC adapter plugged in with a full battery.I have done extensive research and asked many apple employees and have always come to the same conclusion. They all say to keep your laptop plugged into an power supply whenever possible. Only use your battery if you have to, in those times when you are not near a power supply.

So I charged my battery to 100% and then unplugged it from the charger. Thats when the battery dipped to 97% instantaneously. It was very odd and somewhat scary. I just bought this MBP 2 days ago! Anything i might be missing? Is it supposed to do that?

i've had my macbook for a little under a year and i think i may have shortened my battery power. i have a tendency to leave my laptop plugged in long past the fully charged time and allow it to run through the battery till it shuts down. i do this when i accidentally fall asleep listening to music or leave for work and forget it's on or plugged in. how hard on the battery or laptop is it to do this repeatedly? when it's fully charged it tells me i have roughly 4 hours of battery power available. is that the right amount? is there anything i should do to protect the battery? the manufacturer warranty will be up in march, should i take it in for a check up while i may have the option of not having to pay for it?

I have a new 13" MBP (1 week old), and the battery is supposed to be fully charged, according to the battery menu and some hardware monitor app. Well, the same menu says the battery is 95% charged, while the MBP is hooked to the home's sector. What the heck is that ? Last week, the information was consistent (100% recharged).
What is happening here ? Is the battery defective or is this normal ? I'm new to the laptop world, so I need to understand what is happening with the battery.
