I've got a late 2011 macbook pro 13'' and seem to have a problem with the automatic keyboard illumination. When is set to automatic the backlight dims in low light conditions instead of brightening. I hold my finger in front of the light sensor and it dims the keyboard to hlf the brightness, I take it off and the keyboard lights up full brightness.

i'm a new mac user, just bought it this boxing day, new aluminum Macbook that is supposed to illuminate the key board in the dark but i'm not able to do that, didn't find anything under keyboard preference or tried using F8 button in dark too.

View 7 Replies View Related- How can i turn off keyboard illumination in windows? There's no such option in neither keyboard preferences nor the BootCamp panel. I tried to turn down the keyboard illumination to the lowest possible via the keys but the lowest still illuminates the keyboard.
- It seems that my user account created under Windows does not have full Administrator privileges. I'm trying to get rid of a file and it tells me i don't have Administrator rights to do that. When i go into properties of the file the checkboxes are greyed out and i can't activate administrator rights under my user-name.
How do i gain proper and full Administrator rights? I tried to log out and log in as Administrator but the only user to choose from is the the only one user i created when installed Windows.
I looked all over the system preferences pane, and although I can change the setting for the screen itself, I cannot over-ride the light sensor controlling when I can use the backlit keyboard.
There are some cases where I want the backlighting on, but when I press the button to turn it on it won't let me because the sensor is picking up too much ambient lighting.
I forgot to turn off my mac book pro for three day without using it, when I can back the screen was not responding, only the start sound has working. A friend told me to press cmd+mag+r+p at the start and it worked my mac is now working. But my webcam and the illumination of the keys is not.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had the bug since installing the latest Lion update 10.7.3 I never shut down my 17" MBP, just close the lid and let it sleep, however, since the latest Lion update when I open the lip the screen illumination comes on briefly and then turns off - I then hit one of the screen brightness buttons (F1 & F2) and the screen illumination comes back on. How do I go about correcting this ? I've read that resetting the power controls could resolve this bug, but not sure how to perform the reset.

Recently, I have had this problem when my system logs off automatically. Usually in the middle of using VLC (most probably moving the window from one place to another), it just logs off. No error or anything else is shown. I could relogin and start my work normally.
Have restarted my computer after the second incident but the problem still persisted.
how to turn off the Automatic Log On OFF. I just today bought my first Macbook Pro and it's really frustrating that if I walk away for a few minutes I need to re Log On.

This problem suddenly started today. I had my Mac Book on and it suddenly turned off, went to black, and automatically rebooted. After less than a minute, it repeated this again and again. There was a "click" heard most of the time when the screen when to black. I tried running the laptop with only AC, and then only battery.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a late-2010 Macbook Pro 15" and have been having issues with gaming. Specifically, the games will freeze the system requiring a reboot. After reading further, I learned about the "Automatic Graphics Switching" mode under "Energy Saver" in the System Preferences screen. Upon disabling this setting, and locking the preferences, the games are still freezing.
I have not re-enabled this setting but when I check the settings again it is enabled. Seemingly, the OS is changing the "Automatic Graphics Switching" on its own.

the new machines will switch between graphics chips. all very nice (at last), but my 15" MBP 2.8 doesn't and it's a real pain for me as I often go between apps than need the extra speed and then back to e.g. Word, and could really do with the extended battery life (I have the old style battery pack) any news if the older graphics systems can be worked to switch on the fly...i.e. without having to logout and shut down all the open apps, and work?

I have a recurring problem where my screen (built in or external monitor/projector) will just go blank at random times. It is an unrecoverable situation and I have to do a hard power reset to get working again.
After testing several theories without success I struck upon one that showed promise. The blanking tended to occur when I was in Lion Fullscreen mode, or using a gesture to start expose - so I figured maybe it was a graphics switching issue.
So I went into System Preferences and disabled 'Automatic graphics switching'. I then ran trouble free for several days (I was typically crashing 1-2 times a day)
Then several days later it happened again and I thought I was back to square one. However, a colleague suggested I check the graphic switching setting to see if something had changed it back, and sure enough it was re-enabled.
Now I find myself in a constant battle with the system to keep disabling the 'Automatic graphics switrhing' in System Preferences.
I have tried setting it and locking it, but sooner or later it reverts. I need to know if it is possible to force it to stay disabled.

I used to just closed my Mac instead of pressing the shutdown button; I tried this time but I cannot shut it down anymore, also my keyboard cannot control the volume or turn on the keyboard-light. View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.
I have a Gaming Desktop with Windows 7 and a (new i7) MacBook Pro that works great. I'm tired of updating my pictures, music, and other folders manually between my desktop and macbook pro. I want both of them to automatically update and sync with each other through LAN (not internet).
For example, let's say I go out with my macbook pro and I save this awesome picture in my 'Pictures' folder in OSX. Once I get home, I open 'some program I'm asking for' to check my Pictures folder on OSX and "My Pictures" folder on Windows. What this program will do is check both folders and copy whatever picture is missing... so basically the folders will be replicated and updated automatically.
Does this exist? It would really help because I'm sick of manually updating my files between my desktop and laptop. I know there are other methods but I find this the best for me.
I'm a new iMac user i recently purchased one. But i am having a small problem with it everytime i leave for about five minutes it logs me out i dont understand why it does this. This time it made me very mad i was typing a word document and i left just for five minutes when i came back it was logged out and i lost my word domument.

My dad has a macbook pro and all of his business invoices etc. are on there and I want to setup an automated ftp backup that will run once a week. The program I am trying to work with is called Bonkey. It's fairly straightforward to setup but everytime I try to run the backup it acts like it is copying all the files but then it gives an error "unable to create directory".
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 24/7 SMB server (RAID6) that I use for media serving via gigabit. How can I auto mount this server without doing a CMD+K everytime from finder? I want them to automatically mount upon login under OSX and show up under "Devices" right under the hard drives. Right now the way it works is, I mount it manually (6 partitions) and it shows up on my desktop. However it does not show up under devices. What I can do is individually drag and drop these mounted drives to the devices area so other applications can easily see it.
