MacBook Pro :: Any Protection On Screen For Reading In Preview?
Dec 3, 2009
I've decided not to print all of my Lecture Notes and Articles that I'm supposed to read for my Finals. Spending 3+ hours reading in Preview sort of hurts my eyes: headache. Does anyone know of any film for the screen to make it easier to read off of?

Is there a sort of "reading mode" on Preview? I'm getting tired of having the screen dim while I'm reading and to have all the color around the window distracting me.

I would like to know how I can protect my macbook pro screen from the keyboard scratches when the lid is closed?
Is there any cloth or other thing available to put in between the keyboard and screen ?
Is there enough space between the keyboard and screen when the lid is closed to accommodate a cloth in between?
If not then the cloth itself may add a strain to the screen.

While reading an email, the images on my computer screen started to scramble and shake. I immediately tried to exit from the email and I tried to log off the computer to make it stop but the computer for several minutes would not allow me to do so. Eventually I was able to turn off the computer but later after I got back on, it did the same thing for a few minutes after i had been on a while.

I'm trying to reformat my MBP and I think I'm having a little trouble. This is the first time I've reformatted a mac. I put the OS X disk in, went into disk utility and did the erase. I then restarted, again booting on the disc and I've seen nothing but a white screen for the past 2 1/2 hours. The optical drive is making noises like it is reading, but I'm not sure if it can't read from the disk or it is actually formatting. Any ideas?

The full screen mode of Preview always shows a small grey bubble on the botton of the screen that indicates the page number. I would like to remove this page numbering. Is that possible? Since the page numbers are not on the pdf itsself but created by Preview I could not find how to remove them. I added a screen shot to indicate which page numbering I mean.

I would like any application using full screen mode to do that on my secondary screen (a connected projector).
For example when I do a slideshow with Preview it does it on my laptop screen instead of on the projector. Same with iTunes.
I would like the visualizations to appear on the second screen. When watching a youtube-video, it'd be great to have the fullscreen appearing on the second screen while being able to keep on browsing on the first.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of this problem and has a solution. So I opened Bridge CS4 (Snow Leopard is my OS) and selected a photo. Clicking on View - Full screen Preview on the menu bar doesn't show the picture full screen, and pushing space bar to view a full screen preview doesn't work either. What happens is that when I push space bar to get a full screen preview, the entire menu bar at the top of the screen and the dock disappears. So I'll click the desktop, and they reappear, but once I click Adobe Bridge, they disappear again. So I have to alt-q to quit adobe bridge to see the main application menu bar.

Whenever I click on a PDF in my Safari window all I get is a blank screen. For some reason it has stopped opening them in Preview. I need to look at a number of PDF's. If I could download them I would but these links do not give me that option. What do I do?

When I buy my Aluminum MacBook for college, I want it to stay in the exact same condition as I bought it in.
What I'd like to do is apply a full-body InvisibleShield to the MacBook, and then put it in a Speck or Incase hard case. After those, I'd want to store it in a Neoprene sleeve for when I travel across campus with it in my backpack.
My question is, can I do all of this? I want the hands down, absolute best protection for my huge investment while still maintaining the amazing aesthetics of the notebook itself.
However, I don't know if the MacBook would still fit in any of the hard cases once I've applied the InvisibleShield. Does anyone have this particular or a similar configuration?

Is there is a way to open preview in a full screen directly after pressing a space bar? I mean without intermediate state, in which it leaves a lot of space around. I installed snow leopard and was pleased to see how preview is working in finder. The only problem with it is that it is not going to a full screen by default which I would prefer on my MacbookPro 15'' screen. Probably it will be preferable for most of laptops by the way. Unfortunately I didn't found such option.
I even ready to run some terminal thing that would give me that default behavior, as otherwise this preview is not very useful for me. I have Xee that works fantastically good for pictures, but preview is a preview isn't it? I mean if a preview doesn't give me more details, what kind of preview is that then? It can go to a fullscreen anyway, I just need it to go there directly....

i got my macbook pro a few days ago and i'm enjoying it. the only concern i have is that it might get a virus and and i don't want to put 1.5k of US dollars to waste just like that. i always thought a mac could never get a virus so thats why i bought it but i read that there is a chance that getting a virus might happen. so i am wonder should i pay for a virus protection or does it already come with a virus protector and i don't have to worry?

I'm brand spanking new to the Mac world, just bought my 15" MacBook Pro last week and so far loving it.
However I'm going to be mainly resting it on my coffee table which has some hinges on top, and it seems inevitable that eventually the bottom of the laptop will get scratched.
I started researching skins to buy, and there's such a wealth of info and opinions on these forums and on the web that I'm still clueless what to get. I read more bad than good reviews about the Speck.
Just looking for something moderately priced and lightweight to protect the outside of my mac while I'm using it.

Can anyone tell me the best way to protect my Mac in a storm? The other night there was really loud thunder but I didn't see any lightning. I unplugged my charger from the wall after I heard one clash of thunder (really loud, but didn't see lightning, weird). I believe my modem got hit because it no longer works. I tried a different modem and it works fine. Anyway, what is the best option... UPS or surge protector? Or neither? And can anyone directly recommend me a good product to buy, or what to look for when buying one of these?

In Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?

I'm sure I changed some setting somewhere, but this is a bit annoying. Before buying a song in Amazon MP3, to preview, I click the little play button - it used to play in the browser... now it plays it in iTunes. Anyone know what the issue might be? I'm forced then to remove the link it adds to my iTunes library after every preview.

I have purchased a Macbook Pro back in August of 09. I didn't intend to move back to Europe, but it happened. I have been sorta reluctant to buy Apple Care back. However in the lights of what recently happened in my daily life, I may use Apple Care for my uMBP. I would like to know if this is possible to buy Apple Care Protection plan for a machine purchased in the States. I know the terms applied are global, but I have my reserves as to buying AC outside of the country/region where the purchase as occured.
