MacBook Pro :: 15"with 256MB Versus 512MB Graphics Card

Apr 13, 2010

I only have a rudimentary understanding of OpenCL, so hopefully the premise of this question makes sense: Comparing the 2 possible graphics cards configurations for the new 15" MBP, would having the 512MB Nvidia 330M instead of the 256MB one mean that OpenCL in OSX will be able to extract more power to facilitate the overall speed of the system?

IMac :: 512mb Versus 1Gb Ram In Video Card

Jul 29, 2010

I'm not a gamer at all, but I will be attaching a second 1920x1080 monitor to a new iMac. Does it matter for general purposes if I have 512 vs 1Gb of RAM in the video card? Will, I dunno, Expose suck on two HD monitors if I only have 512?

I do some infrequent video editing, and I have one specialized program (not video-related) that supposedly gets a boost out of extra video RAM (though no one has provided benchmarks on different setups.)

MacBook Pro :: I7's 330M 512MB Vs 27" ATI Radeon HD 4670 256MB

Apr 25, 2010

I had the the 27" iMac with the ATI and I just recently ordered the 15" i7 MBP with the 330M (512MB). Knowing mostly nothing about graphics cards or computer gaming, but wanting to get a few games for my MBP, I'd like to know how the 330M compares to the Radeon HD 4670. I intend to get Orange Box for Mac when Steam's out and the Mac version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. My only experience gaming on the iMac was a Bioshock demo that ran modestly on mostly medium settings. So in comparing the two graphics cards, I'd like to get a sense of what to expect.

MacBook Pro :: 330m 256mb Versus 512 Mb?

Dec 31, 2010

So I just sold my MB and am going to be upgrading to a MBP. I have been reading up on the current ones and have seen that almost everyone reccomends going with the 15" 2.44ghz vs the 2.66, as the ~$400 difference is not justified. What still sways me towards the higher end 15" is that the 330m has 512mb vs the 256mb in the base model. I will be using it for games such as The Sims 3, Civilizations, and SC II. I will also be using PS as well. Will I notice a huge performance difference between the 512 and the 256?

Mac Pro :: Mini Versus Displayport... Possible With A New Graphics Card?

Jan 5, 2009

Since video/graphics out is achieved through graphics cards with dvi ports...

surely a card with mini displayports would make exisiting mac pro's compatible with apple's new LCD displays?

Am i wrong?

Would this be difficult to do for a graphics manufacturer to do (forgetting that this obviously would be a card aimed mainly at Apple users and probably not worth the effort....)?

MacBook Pro :: Choosing Video RAM - 256 Mb Versus 512mb

Apr 14, 2010

I do quite a lot of graphical design, and I work in all the design suite adobe programmes. As some of you may know, Adobe will soon launch CS5.

I have been reading up on their system requirements, and for photoshop it requires a minimum of 256 mb of video RAM. Since this is the minimum, would you say it is better to go for the 512 mb instead? Or what I am saying is do I really need 512 mb of video RAM?

MacBook Pro :: Graphics Card Not Changing?

Sep 16, 2009

Regardless of wether the computer is set for High Performance or Better energy Savings in System Prefs, its always seems to default to 9600M. It worked fine for about a month before the problem developed. The problem itself isn't that recent but it was over summer and didn't bother me a lot because I was at home a lot, but now that I am at College, having a computer that can hit 8 hours of battery life instead of ~2 would be really good.

I went to system Profiler to make sure that the OS could still detect the 9400 and it does. The problem developed under Leopard and continued into Snow Leopard. All software is up to date and all Firmware updates have been applied.

Mac :: MacBook Video Card And Graphics?

Oct 4, 2009

I'm not exactly hardware savvy, so please bear with me.I've been looking into some cool video games for my MacBook (white, couple of years old, Leopard), and it appears I need a new video card/graphics/whatever. I think it's GeForce or something.I've heard in the past that the video card/graphics could not be upgraded in the Macs. Not sure if this is true or if it has changed.Is there any possible way on Earth that I could send the MacBook into a shop and get the video card/graphics updated? It doesn't have to be Apple; a genuine third party would do.

Do you guys think that the next revision of the MBP (late 2010/early 2011) will keep using the GeForce GT 330M? Looking back on the MBP's history, it seems that they usually keep using the same graphics card for two revisions. I hope this doesn't hold true because I'm planning to upgrade later this year hehe :PI hope Apple starts implementing better GPUs on their laptops once Steam and other famous gaming platforms/games make it to OSX.

MacBook Pro :: Graphics Card Not Switching?

Feb 5, 2012

I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 (Mid-2010). I have auto graphics  switching turned on in the Energy Saver prefs. But it never switches. It stays on the nVidia card all the time.

I have tried switching to Text Edit, Mail, BBEdit, and other non-graphics intensive apps. It stays on nVidia. It stays on nVidia even when I unplug and use battery power.

I can manually change it to Intel, and it works fine. When I change it back to auto switching, it stays on nVidia continuously.

I ask cos, in the nine months I've owned this MBP, I had never bothered switching to my 9600. I've now done it and notice no difference whatsoever.
