MacBook Pro :: Can I Use Same Graphics Card For Two Revisions Of MBA
Apr 15, 2010
Do you guys think that the next revision of the MBP (late 2010/early 2011) will keep using the GeForce GT 330M? Looking back on the MBP's history, it seems that they usually keep using the same graphics card for two revisions. I hope this doesn't hold true because I'm planning to upgrade later this year hehe :PI hope Apple starts implementing better GPUs on their laptops once Steam and other famous gaming platforms/games make it to OSX.

Anyone else noticed on their air that menus are completely opaque. I know more recent OS revisions toned down the translucency slightly, but this is absolutely totally opaque. It is also not affected by whether or not the menu *bar* is translucent. Nor does it seem to be just a 10.5.6 thing - a Macbook sitting next to it with the same OS revision still has noticeably translucent menus. Is this just me or is it general? I could find elsewhere was people either complaining about *less* translucent menus in particular OS updates, which this isn't, or people misunderstanding and thinking the OP meant the menu *bar*, which I don't.

Basically, I wanted to just go on a simple game of Runescape with a friend of mine, and on High detail it was lagging... Now I'm sorry, but I have run High Detail on a freakin 4 year old dell with a 128mb internal gfx card and it hasn't lagged.
Is there a way I can check which graphics card is being used? Is there a way I can force it to use the 9600M GT?

I am not that good with computers. Ok, so my question is: how do I install a new graphics card into my macbook, without buying a new computer? I have the older white macbook. I was thinking of putting in the new NIVIDA GeForce 9400.

Regardless of wether the computer is set for High Performance or Better energy Savings in System Prefs, its always seems to default to 9600M. It worked fine for about a month before the problem developed. The problem itself isn't that recent but it was over summer and didn't bother me a lot because I was at home a lot, but now that I am at College, having a computer that can hit 8 hours of battery life instead of ~2 would be really good.
I went to system Profiler to make sure that the OS could still detect the 9400 and it does. The problem developed under Leopard and continued into Snow Leopard. All software is up to date and all Firmware updates have been applied.

I'm not exactly hardware savvy, so please bear with me.I've been looking into some cool video games for my MacBook (white, couple of years old, Leopard), and it appears I need a new video card/graphics/whatever. I think it's GeForce or something.I've heard in the past that the video card/graphics could not be upgraded in the Macs. Not sure if this is true or if it has changed. Is there any possible way on Earth that I could send the MacBook into a shop and get the video card/graphics updated? It doesn't have to be Apple; a genuine third party would do.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 (Mid-2010). I have auto graphics switching turned on in the Energy Saver prefs. But it never switches. It stays on the nVidia card all the time.
I have tried switching to Text Edit, Mail, BBEdit, and other non-graphics intensive apps. It stays on nVidia. It stays on nVidia even when I unplug and use battery power.
I can manually change it to Intel, and it works fine. When I change it back to auto switching, it stays on nVidia continuously.

my mac has been perfect for years, but just today it started with this yellowish 'mask' on the text boxes and drop down menus and the safari page is almost entirely yellow what gives?? Are there known graphics card issues with the MacBook Pro? How can I get an update for the Graphics Card? I checked for updates and it says there are none.

What I have: MBP Penryn 2.4 Ghz, 2 GB, 200 HD, Matte. What I'm looking at: Unibody 15" MBP 2.53 Ghz, 4 GB, 250 HD, Glossy. Love the new trackpads on the MBP, not sure how I'll like the glossy screen. Would be doing some video work down the road (Canon HV40). Please tell me the difference between the performance of these graphics cards and lastly which one you would opt for.

Under average useage (browsing the web, typing a letter, writing an email, editing photos in iPhoto, using Photoshop Elements etc.) what difference would the user see by switching to the 9600M GT card over the 9400M?
I ask cos, in the nine months I've owned this MBP, I had never bothered switching to my 9600. I've now done it and notice no difference whatsoever.

Searched and only found info on using a single external monitor, is it possible to run two off of a macbook (not pro) with some sort of external graphics card? It would be outputting to two 1680x1050 monitors. Currently have it with the single one and don't wanna just let my other monitor go to waste (use it for 360 so its off most of the time).

I like to keep my laptop cool, so I usually run on the integrated 9400 graphics chip. But lately I've been finding myself playing a lot of games on my unibody mbp. However, it gets kind of tedious to have to continually switch over to the "better performance" 9600M option in energy saver. Instead of opening energy saver, clicking "better performance" and then restarting, is there a simple applescript or shortcut I can just double click that will do all this for me? I'd like to just place that script on the desktop and call it "play games" or something." I know it's a small inconvenience, but does anyone have a solution? Or can anyone make a simple automator or applescript to handle this?

I noticed with with gfxCardStatus that whenever my extermal 24 inch LCD is connected to my 2010 MBP i7 that it uses the Nvidia card regardless of what I select in the gfxCardStatus menu.
Based on the messages I see being logged to the console I am assuming this is normal behavior.

Since I had to jump through all kinds of hoops of the actual apple support page, I eventually turned to the community now, which as ironically a whole lot easier. Anyways, My problem is basically with BootCamp.I'm trying to run the CryEngine 3 SDK on a late 2011 macbook Pro, and the specs including the graphics card should be enough to handle it easily.Yet everytime I try to launch it, it plays for a little while (2 minutes) then comes up with an error along the lines of "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered".
I've checked and I have the latest drivers for the graphics card on the mac installed including the Catalyst Control Centre porgram. It seems like it should work, but it refuses to.I've read up on it a bit and it may be a problem with overheating, since when the mac beging running the CryEngine the fan starts going like crazy, basically at its maximum capacity, so It might be a problem with Over heating.
I've also heard that due to a few compatibility issues with Windows 7, the graphics dont switch properly which leads to this error and can be fixed by entering the windows BIOS and switching the graphics switching from dynamic to fixed, however i'm not sure if I really want to meddle with the BIOS.
I've checked both the CPU and the total RAM when running CryEngine however the RAM only gets to around 50% whilst the CPU barely tops 20%. Also the graphics card being a AMD Radeon HD 6770M is something that should be able to handle it.

I just got my macbook pro retina 2.6 with 16 gigs of ram. It was working great for the first 40 minutes then on the left side of the screen two inches went black, then the screen went fuzzy then cleared up. I reinstalled the OS just to be on the safe side and sure enough it happened again. Called support and they told me DOA, however they can't do anything because apple support systems are down! Check out the photos of my screen. It will clear up if I don't use it for a few minutes which makes me think it is the graphics card. Hope this isn't a displaygate for apple all this money and I get a DOA - whatever happened to QA?

See the new Macbook Pro that I recently got has two graphics cards. One, the integrated, standard issue Intel HD4000 and the other one, a Nvidea GT650M. Personally, I was thrilled to learn this. However, my Macbook Pro seems to switch in between these two and I really don't want it to do that. I would rather just make the GT 650M the main graphics card and avoid using the integrated graphics.
