View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dual G5 1.8 Powermac with what I think is a bad Geforce 5200 card. Sometimes it will not boot and if I pull out and reseat the video card it will then boot again.
Can I use ANY MAC AGP card? How about PCi cards? Or do I have to use a Geforce 5200? I just want to get it up and running again at a reasonable minimum of cost.
trying to watch show on cwtv.com got this message. What the heck?
Your computer's video card is unable to render the video and controls.
Ok so I have a old Mac Performa 640CD/Dos that I am trying to to get up and running again. I had a monitor for it but it fell off the couch and broke. So I thought maybe I can use an adapter with it in order to use PC VGA monitor. Well after getting the first adapter and trying it, no luck, then I tried one that had dip switches on it. Tried 640 x 480, 800 x 600, almost all the dip switch combination with no luck on getting anything on the screen. Could it be that I might have a bad video card and it needs replaced? Or is this particular model not compatible with PC VGA monitors?

My G4 Ethernet was sold to a co-worked and he is quite happy.
And I got this off ebay today:

2GB RAM (2 x 1GB PC3200U DDR SDRAM)
Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-117D
Samsung HD160JJ/P 160GB SATA HDD (not apple labeled, not original to this system)

Well I didnt' read the fine print and BAZINGA! I noticed that it comes without a video card.
So For video editing, watching hulu and youtube and netflix What do you guys recommend.
I do have a PCI GEforce at home with 512 megs for PC and I was wondering if I could flash it and if so, does anyone know of a good walkthrough?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI see here that my Mac Pro (Early 2008) is compatable with:
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600
ATI Radeon HD 4870
It looks like in many cases there's two versions, and the mac version costs about 10x as much on ebay and in stores. Is that accurate, or is one of these models mac and pc compatable, and therefore the laws of supply and demand work in my favour?
(fyi: I just want the cheapest one, I don't do heavy GPU work)
I'm not exactly hardware savvy, so please bear with me.I've been looking into some cool video games for my MacBook (white, couple of years old, Leopard), and it appears I need a new video card/graphics/whatever. I think it's GeForce or something.I've heard in the past that the video card/graphics could not be upgraded in the Macs. Not sure if this is true or if it has changed. Is there any possible way on Earth that I could send the MacBook into a shop and get the video card/graphics updated? It doesn't have to be Apple; a genuine third party would do.
View 7 Replies View RelatedFollowing the death of my dual G4 867mhz system, I have been left with an IBM T42 laptop for the last few months on which to work (feel free to Google if you're curious about the stats).
I can't honestly say that I care much for the iMacs and the Mac Pros are beyond my budget so it looks like I'll be going with the next revision of the Macbook Pro.
I've reviewed the Apple website and I'm interested in the high-end 15 inch with the dual video card setup with 512MB of VRAM. What I am not pleased with, however, is that it is also configured with additional RAM and HDD space; both of which Apple charges a premium for.
My line of thinking is that I'll purchase the other two components from third party vendors as add-ons for the base configuration and upgrade the video card either at the Apple store or elsewhere - assuming it's practical.
My question then, can the video card in the Macbook Pro be upgraded?
For the last week I noticed that when I enlarge any video stream to full screen, the lips do not sync with the audio. I tried disabling automatic switching of the video card and everything is normal when I enlarge the video.

I have a early 2008 15 inch macbook pro. I am wondering if I can upgrade the video card somehow. It doesnt appear to be one of the "diy" upgrades that are possible like RAM and Battery replacement, but can I bring it to an apple store and have it upgraded? I have a new videogame that appears to get slower when there are a lot of objects on the screen. I recently upgraded my RAM from 2GB to 4GB so i don't think it is my memory, and my processory is 2.4 GHz which according to the game specifications is fine. Â

I have macbook leopard about a year, and I'm still trying to find out what type of video card does it carry. Does anyone know what type or how do i found out what type of graphics card does the macbook have? thnx.

I recently bought a refurbished macbook (2.1 ghz, 120 gb hd, 1 gb ram, not sure of video card), and I have been trying to play diablo 2. I downloaded the installer and patch for it, but after installing everything, I am unable to start it up at all. It says, "The application Diablo II quit unexpectedly." From here I can ignore, report or relaunch. I've reported once already, but relaunching is pointless and ignore obviously closes it out entirely. I am not even able to get a startup or menu screen to come up. I have never owned a Mac before now so I am learning as I go. I am pretty sure I need to get to 256 colors, but I am stuck with millions. There are no other available options and downgrading my resolution has had no effect.

I was wondering if this works for macbook pro's with 2.4GHz, using a 9600m GT video card. Has anyone tried this product before?
i bought windows 7 for my recently purchased macbook pro so i could play star trek online. i installed both but apparently windows is not recognizing my Nvidia geforce 320, 256 mb graphics card it just shows up in windows as Standerd VGA graphics adaptor. When i run i diagostic on directx it says creating 3d graphics is impossible so when i finally try to run the game it says cannot create 3D3.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was using the nvidia card, which is the higher performance. I had parallels running and it was "dependant" on the nVidia card. So even when I went to battery power, it stayed in nvidia.
I closed parallels (while on battery power) and it switched to Intel video, so that works. Then I plugged the power back in, and have been plugged in for hours, I even unplugged the power and plugged it back in (switch from A/C power to battery, and back to A/C power) but it just stays on Intel.
Alright so I get to class, open up my 2010 Macbook Pro 15'(fully loaded). I close VLC to save on battery life and then I end up with the screen in the pictures below. I forced restart, and same problem. My guess is that when I closed VLC it turned back to the Integrated Video Card. Now I can't start the computer. What does everyone think? I'm most likely taking to Apple Store tonight. How long does it normally take Apple to fix issues like this? [URL:...]

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 2006 MBP and the video card just failed out of nowhere. The display was all garbled. Took it to the apple store and they confirmed my suspicions. Unfortunately, this is not the video card that was covered in the class-action suit (or whatever it was) where apple admitted fault and agreed to replace for free.
Anyhow, they are offering to change the video card for $300 and throw in a battery replacement. I am otherwise pretty happy with the laptop. Do you think it's worth doing, or is it likely that other components will continue to fail. Should I just go ahead and purchase a new one?
I own a 2009 Macbook Pro. I was just wondering 2 things about Snow Leopard:
How does it manage video card switching?
Does it allow SLI?
How do you increase the amount of RAM allowed on an integrated video card in OS X?

for reasons I won't go into, I had to re-init my SSD and restore from a TM back-up. I used to have a little app that had an icon in the menu bar showing what graphics mode was being used while on battery/charger. I swear I can't remember the name of the app. It was useful for making certain that the right graphics mode was being utilized (amongst other things).Â
It's not Battery Health - I can't recall it at all. I obviously didn't get it in the App Store because nothing like that is showing up in my purchases.Â

So I love keeping all my music in Itunes, well organized and on my local machine, so I have this checked in preferences. I however never want iTunes to save videos in the libary.
I have a large external hardrive that I am using to backup my entire DVD collection in friendly .m4v format. Playing them on my Mac however opens iTunes and copies a file that is nearly 1GB to my local hard drive.
Is that setting effecting the processor as well? or anything else?it'd be great if when put on the "better battery life" it would down clock a bit to squeeze more battery life.
View 4 Replies View Relatedhow I can disable one of my video cards in my MacBook pro. The better of the two recently crapped out, or at least if am able to get it to turn on and can login to switch to the other video card it works fine.
Basically the screen glitches up and freezes the computer. I think it could have potentially taken damage from possible prolonged over heating from high temperature spaces, and a lot of dirty air over time blocking the vents. (after multiple cleanings)
