MacBook :: OS X Mavericks (10.9.1) Why Keep Getting Pop Up Ads
Aug 23, 2014
I have been using Mac's and have never had an issue with pop up ads. I purchased the MacBook Pro with Retina last year and up until now I would never get these pop up pages. Now every single time I open a new tab or new page like 3 other pages will open up. I went to Safari Preferences and made sure that I had selected the setting that is supposed to block pop ups. Although it is selected it I still constantly get these pop up ads.

I think I have a virus on my computer.. I use google chrome and of late pop-ups, word being converted to links and all similar stuff is happening.. I read a post on this forum before and it said to remove the gophoto.it trojan virus. I have done so and even restarted my system. The problem still persists and is creating a lot of hassles for me.. I am using a Macbook Air 13" with Software OSX 10.9.3

Trying to reinstall OS after the machine wouldn't work when I tried OS upgrade. I formatted Macintish HD. It looks like it downloads successfully but never restarts afterwards. No matter what I try it just boots into OS X Utilities. When I go into DIsk Utility it lists 160.04 GB Toshiba, then under that Macintosh HD. Then further down it lists disk1 and under that it lists OS X Base System.

I have 11" Macbook Air and mostly use it just for music and as a home computer and do not have a lot of documents or anything that take up a large portion of the storage. When I look at the storage though it has this "other" portion that takes up almost half of my storage. How can I get rid of the "other" space on my computer?

I have had a MacBook Air since Jan 1, 2014. It's running OS X 10.9.3 with 1.3GHz i5 and 4GB and 250GB SSD that is about only about 40% full.
In the past few weeks, performance has slowed. Even when typing in simple text, I'll type 3-4 words before the display catches up. Often, a simple click to switch to a new application results in a spinning beach ball. During the last week, I've noticed that the system is getting hot, something I never noticed before. Today, I heard the fan running for the first time. Until now, I didn't even know it had a fan. I switched from Windows to a Mac primarily because I was sick of the continually declining performance of a Windows system. Now the Mac seems to have the same problem. Clearly something is wrong.

I use my 2010 macbook pro to make music every day.
I spend a lot of time in a small room with it and the fans go crazy as soon as i do anything slightly cpu intensive.
The fans come on and are pretty loud, even with some ventilation under the laptop they go crazy.
Is there a solution to keeping them down and keeping the mac cool without being noisy?

ever since a few weeks ago, my mbp mid-2009 15" running mavericks will not go to sleep. when i use the apple menu or when i shut the lid, it will take awhile and then goes to sleep, but immediately wakes up again. i can tell by the indicator light and by the sound of the machine. It's not a user issue, as it happens on all users and even on a guest user. it happens on the user's login screen. i repaired permissions. no problems with the hard drive test. i turned off all sharing. i quit all apps. i did a smc reset.
I have an SSD installed as my main hard drive. I mounted another SATA drive in my optical bay. I even unmounted that drive thinking it might be that (although it was working fine for years before). On activity monitor, i notice kernel_task is running, but not high; however, i notice that the idle wake ups is very high - over 1000.

I have some kind of malware present on my MacBook Air from trying to download a "flash player". I get full page pop-up ads for "mackeeper" and the like nearly every time I click on a link, have annoying ads on pages that I know weren't there before I downloaded this "program", and am now seeing other pop-up ads. As soon as I downloaded this program, my search engine changed to "Conduit". What can I do to get rid of this?

Okay so I have a brand new 13 inch non-retina MacBook Pro with a 2.9 GHz i7 and 4GB of RAM. I understand when I am running a game or FCPX why I would get close to or run out of RAM, but as I'm typing this, the only thing I have open is Google Chrome and Activity Monitor. I am using 3.99 out of 4.00 GB. I am planning on upgrading to 8GB soon, but is this normal? I have restarted and that doesn't work. Here is a picture of Activity Monitor:

13" Macbook pro (mid 2010) running Mavericks 10.9.4, Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 16 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256Mb, Crucial SSD 240Gb, Seagate Goflex Home NAS drive 2TB, Wifi network is BT Infinity.
Since upgrading to Mavericks, my macbook pro cannot see the Goflex Home drive on the network at all. I am confident that the problem lies within Mavericks as the Goflex Home drive can be accessed perfectly on the same network using my older PowerMac, my iPad and my iPhone. Also, the NAS is accessible via the internet through the Seagate Share facility.

I just got a MacBook last week, and am running 10.9.3. Twice so far, I've been using the computer and the UI ceases to respond: no response to keypresses, no response to the trackpad. The only way out seems to be a hard reset of the computer. This is a brand-spanking new Mac, although I have installed QuickSilver and Firefox. Have there been any issues with freezing on 10.9?

For a couple of days the fan of my (15" late 2011) MacBook Pro has been constantly running and the Mac has become sluggish. The CPU temperature is 156 °F. It seems that the problem would be caused by "coreservicesd" process taking a huge percentage (57%) of the Mac RAM.
I am running OS X 10.9.3 with 8 Go. RAM and 500 Go. HD

I can no longer add or delete any contacts in Contacts. I am running Mavericks, 10.9.3 and I have an IPhone 5 which is up to date on its software. I have tried having iCloud syncing on and off and still cannot add or delete contacts on my MacBook Pro (brand new; with Retina display). I have looked for a preference file and cannot even find one that seems to be for Contacts. I can remove contacts from my iPhone, and I can sync it with my laptop, but the contacts I deleted on the phone are not deleted on the laptop. When syncing, which I have tried doing both wired and wireless, it takes forever to finish, it if it does at all. I usually let it set at working on step 5 for about 5 minutes before I just click the round "X" and dismiss the sync box.

My macbook pro, running on osx mavericks, disconnects from wifi for no reason. This happens often, but I can't find a solution. I have tried making a new location and deleting all my networks in the network preferences. I have also uncheck "wake for internet access" in the energy preferences. I have reseted my computer multiple times.

I have downloaded OS X Update 10.9.3 on my MacBook Pro at least six times in the last 30 days. However, it never installs. It just downloads everything, asks for a restart to install, but then never installs. The Update section of the App Store keeps telling me that I need to download this update, but I just end up in a continuous loop. How can I solve this?

I recently formatted my Macbook Pro 2011 that had OS X Lion installed to fix a problem with my HDD, when I boot with the Recovery HD it gives me the option to download and install OS X Lion, but since its not available on Appstore anymore it says that the item I want is unavaible and do not install the OS X. Since my macbook doesn´t have an OS X anymore I can´t access appstore to download a more recent OS X, like Mavericks.
I'm trying to install it for 3 days now and nothing works

I have a mid-2010 15 inch Macbook Pro. After putting it off for some time, I went to install the 10.9.3 update. However, after installing the update, the computer won't start! A progress bar appears under the Mac Logo during start-up, but it only gets about 1/5th of the way through, when the bar disappears and then the mac shuts down. I've attempted this at least 5 times and it always does the same thing. I held option during start-up to boot into the Recovery disk, and tried to repair the partition (I also have a bootcamp partition), but it said it was unable to repair.
