Consequently, I used the Disk Utility in order to partition the drive. However it too failed (even for smaller sizes). How do I go about partitioning the hard drive? Erase everything and restore from backup?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got an SSD in the HDD space, and a newmodeus HDD bay in the optical drive (same thing as the optibay). So what I was thinking was to install windows in a partition on the 500gb HDD. My SSD is only 80GB so I wanted to save space on that. Here is what I have tried:
Macbook set up with SDD and HDD, no optical drive.
Bootcamp will not let me install windows using an ISO image, needs a CD to install.
So I put my HDD in the HDD bay and put the optical drive back in. I then started up the macbook using a firewire drive (HDD has no OS on it, only the SDD does). Bootcamp then tells me it can't partition an external disk and I have to boot up using an internal disk (even though I WANT to partition the internal disk... bootcamp wouldnt let me get to that option running off a firewire drive). It seems like the only thing left is to just install windows on an SSD partition.
Anyone install Windows 7 via bootcamp on the 2010 Air? [URL]. Be interested in hearing your comments, on disc space used, boot times into windows, memory usage, and any other things worth mentioning, does bootcamp allow you to choose the partition size?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI installed snow leopard, the GM version, and after getting nice and settled I wanted to install windows 7, in bootcamp. So I create the partition, and then thats the end of it. None of the start up buttons will work, I tried holding down the X button while the mac starts up, but nothing will happen. The apple logo doesn't show up either. Right now, I booted off of ubuntu, and I'm on firefox. It seems the buttons don't work and I don't know why. Also, when I put in the windows 7 dvd, it just read:

Before I installed Parallels 5, I had a 2.4ghz 13" MBP w/ 4GB RAM that was dual-booting Windows XP. I then installed Parallels, and instead of installing an OS from a CD (I have Win7 fresh install CD), I decided to instead install Windows XP onto my VM from Bootcamp since my specs aren't as fast and I heard Win7 may lag a bit more than XP.
My question is, in the future if I want to install Win7, what would happen in these 2 scenarios:
1. I install Win7 onto my bootcamp partition (would my parallels copy of windows become corrupt/unusable?)
2. I install Win7 onto VM via Parallels
I just bought a Macbook pro a few months ago and I love it. However, I do need windows for some things and I am pretty set on installing Windows 7 with bootcamp. A relative of mine bought a dell and was sent the free upgrade discs. He got an oranage disc that says Operating System on the front. It also says Windows 7 Upgrade Option as well as This DVD supports 64-bit edition only. Lastly it says For Use Only as an Upgrade to a Qualifying Dell Windows 7 Upgrade Option PC.
My question is are the setup files on there and everything I need to successfully install Windows 7 on my mac? My guess is yes, but I really do not want to mess anything up so I wanted to make sure! It came with a gray disc that has a product key on it and is labeled Upgrade Assistant and says Insert this DVD before upgrading to Windows 7. Not sure if that matters or not. Can I use this disc or these discs to get myself Windows 7 on my Macbook?
New to macs here actually new to apple also. I had a few questions regarding installing windows 7 on my late 2009 macbook pro 15". What is the difference in bootcamp and parallels is it? Does one run like a virtual windows in the background while bootcamp let's you boot in either osx or windows? I have a xps desktop from Dell that has windows vista pre installed. Now I bought a copy of windows 7 when it was released fro newegg. Now I assume I cannot use that disc and serial, is that correct? Since I use it on my xps desktop? I would need to purchase another copy of windows correct? With that said, which version do I purchase? 32 or 64 bit? My Macbook pro is pretty much already setup (apps, pics, music, etc) can i still install windows 7 or will it format my HD and i would need to then reinstall everything on the Mac side? What are the "major" cons to installing windows 7 on a mbp? So far I have gathered battery life being the biggest con, any others?
View 2 Replies View Relatedso i just installed bootcamp windows 7 ultimate 7600 x86 retail on 100gb partition and for some reason when i try to install the bootcamp drivers off the install OSX cd it brings up a installer assistant for remote macOSX install and macbook air cd/dvd sharing (it looks like as if its recognizing my mbp as a mba). so that didnt work. im trying to install boot camp update 2.1 for windows vista 32 bit and thats not opening up to install....the only things ive installed so far are the nvidia 9M series drivers.

Something happened to my mac when I was traveling, be it a latent hardware flaw, damage, or some other random act, and my mac OSX partition just, well, died. Unbootable, disk utility spends over a day trying to fix the boot record. The Bootcamp windows partition is fritzy, but it at least mounts and periodically can be booted from. I bought an external usb hard drive, loaded SL onto that, and have my mac back up and running again, but no data to speak of. So based on numerous recommendations, I paid good money to purchase Disk Warrior 4. Nothing, just told me the Macintosh HD partition on the hard drive was damaged, but that bootcamp could still be read.

And I've copied all of the Win7 files off of the installation DVD on to the jumpdrive. I've prepared my Mac for installation by installed rEFIt and all the other instructions on the following tutorial: [URL]. So when I have my USB drive plugged in to my MBP and I start it up, holding down option to bring up rEFIt, the USB drive doesn't show up to begin installation.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a MacbookPro6,2 (mid 2010). I replaced my optical drive with an OptiBay 500GB hard drive before I realized I wanted to do bootcamp. So, I did a lot of searching and found that I would be able to install windows 7 onto my bootcamp partition using Parallels 6 (from an image of the retail windows 7 disk). The install from parallels was successful so I used parallels to install the bootcamp drivers to the windows partition.
However, when I try to boot to the windows partition, it starts up, displays the 'starting windows' message w/ the windows icon then BAM--Blue Screen of Death flashes on for less than a second and the machine restarts. I can't even read what the error is, thats how quickly it restarts. I also searched the partition looking for the BSOD error log but no log was generated.
I have an Aluminum MacBook, is it possible to install Windows with boot camp from a thumb drive? I have access to the ISOs I need (from MSDNAA), but I ran out of CDR/DVDRs. Ideally I would extract the ISO onto the thumb drive and have it behave the same as if it was a CD, is it that simple or is there something else I will need to do?

I've would like to erase Macintosh HD but is not possible. If I try I've an alert with "Is not possible to unmount the drive".

I have a 13 inch Aluminum Late 2008 MacBook. Processor 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53). Currently I have a 160 GB SATA disk as my hard drive a d 4 GB of memory. (Is it time to upgrade or what?) I recently bought a Western Digital 1 TB internal hard drive to replace my exisiting internal hard drive. I spent a lot of time last night trying to first- connect this new hard drive to my computer so that I can then clone the existing hard drive and then hoping that I would get that done so I could install the new hard drive. No such luck.
My current hard drive is partitioned as follows:
Name: Macintosh HD
Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Size: 132.5 GB
Name: BOOTCAMP
Format: Windows NT File System (NTFS)
Size: 26.69 GB
When I was partitioning the new drive I did so as follows:
Name: Macintosh HD
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Size: 973.51 GB
Name: BOOTCAMP
Format: MS-DOS (FAT) --- This was the only option that I was given that I thought would work. I did not have the option of "Windows NT File System (NTFS) to choose from. Question # 1: is that going to be a problem? I only run 1 program on Windows and that is the only reason I have BOOTCAMP on there at all. However, I do HAVE to have that program. Like I said it didn't give me the option to choose Windows so I didn't know where to go with this. Any help with that would be awesome.
Size: 26.34 GB (I just used the same size that was current, or close to it.) I connected the Western Digital 1 TB through an external device, partitioned it as stated above, and then used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the drives. The first one went through fine. (It took 2 hours and I went to bed before it finished.) This morning I woke to see that it had gone through well. I then started the process with the BOOTCAMP drives. However, before I started it gave me errors stating that I wouldn't be able to run Windows off of the Cloned BOOTCAMP drive. Question #2: Is it because of the Format type I chose when partitioning?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble updating from bootcamp 3.0 to 3.1 in windows 7 PRO 32-bit. Both windows OS and MAC OS X are fully updated. I've tried running the apple software update program and I don't get any error messages, it tells me to restart and after the restart Bootcamp is still 3.0. I've tried downloading the file and running the file. But when I go to run the file nothing happens! I've tried to re-download the file again but still no luck.

I have download and installed what Apple is calling BootCamp 3.2 x64 but when the app crash message comes up it say 3.1. I am out of ideas why the bootcamp manager will not run.

I'm not having any luck; the sliders are grayed out and I can't make any changes with system tools 6.06. I've also got errors when trying to install Nvidia drivers other than the ones included with Bootcamp. What driver/system tools version are you using to OC? And what settings have you tried? View 4 Replies View RelatedNoticed with a Win7 bootcamp install the SSD is not detected and scheduled disk defragmentation would best be turned off manually. You may also want to turn off hibernation to save from 2-4GB of disc space. A full install of Win7 takes about 10GB and runs excellent.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have MacBook Pro 5.5 MacOsX Ver 10.6.4 with Windows 7 64 bit installed via Boot Camp. The instructions clearly indicate I need to update Mac Drivers for Windows. I have no idea where to install the drivers, on the Mac side or on the Windows side. I tried to install the driver updates for Windows 7 64 bit on the Mac side and when I clicked on the down load the preview window was garbage gobbi speak.
The only thing legible in English was at the top it said for Windows 32 bit. I clearly clicked twice on the download link for 64 bit. Before I go any further would someone be kind enough to direct me to the proper install for the drivers telling me which partition to do the updates, Win side or Mac side? I installed Win7 from a new install. This was not an upgrade disc. Also have Office 2010 installed.
