My Finder says that I have about 50GB free, Disk Utility says I have about 20GB free, and Boot Camp says I have less than 10GB free. I ran a Disk Verify in my Mac OS Partition, it says the OS disk is corrupt. I went to the Recovery Partition, it says everything is fine. What do I do to fix these issues?

I just restore my Mac OS to a single partition and then I tried re-partitioning but it's giving me an error.
I've tried several times, tried using different sizes every time. My HD's capacity is 250GB, and I've got 108.95GB free. So I am sure that making a new partition of 35 - 40 GB is not a big deal. I also tried using Disk Utility, both from the Mac OS install disc and while using the Mac OS itself, but it keeps giving me this error. I do not want to format my Macintosh HD's partition because I don't have an external HDD on me at the moment so I will not be able to back up. I have a lot of important data that can not be deleted.
I have an alu iMac with a 500GB HDD. There is about 200GB free. Every time I run the Bootcamp Assistant, choose a Windows partition (doesn't matter what size), it sits with the progress bar spinning for ages before it gives me the error "Disk could not be partitioned as some files cannot be moved. Please reformat the disk and try again". There is no way I can back the disk up, reformat, reinstall and re-update everything. No other apps are running when I run the Bootcamp Assistant.

I mainly use windows on my G5 iMac to play counterstrike (fun as hell) but lately ****'s been ****ing up on my windows side of things. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm out of space on my windows partition, and I want to add more space - without having to completely reinstall bootcamp!! Something's telling me this is the only option, but I don't want to have to put the effort in reinstalling the application.

-Bioshock 2 (when me order arrives in mid-feb)

So how much space does W7 really need, I have a genuine W7 Ultimate x64 to install (got 8GB DDR3 on my 27" iMac) so there seems to be no point installing x32. Seems I need 20GB just for W7 x64. But how much space to leave for the games I want with a little space to grow?

Issue - In the disk utility, the free space under partition and Macintosh HD do not reflect on each other. There is the difference of about 10GB between these two.
I had windows vista installed but suddenly the audio decided to become faulty, after spending a day trying to fix it i realized I have a windows 7 install disc so i might as well just replace vista with windows 7. I didnt take care of vista or ever register it so it became quite a task to upgrade so i just deleted the partition and went to create a new one and just do a full install of windows 7.
I made the partition but the wrong format, so i removed it through boot camp assistant and created another, except now it keeps giving me the "back up the disk and use disk utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using boot camp assistant again" Now, I'd love to do this, except I have no idea what I'm doing and WHY this error has occured. After becoming frustrated I switched from my imac to my macbook pro and received the same error when trying to create a partition. So any help on exactly what I need to do would be a HUGE help. I only use windows for music production (I know, seems backwards, but I use Sony Acid and FL Studio so I'm stuck with Windows)
the other day ive decided to finally put xp on my macbook, just so everybody knows i use my macbook for my uni assignments and to store all my close memories (photos and diaries) so the data on there is vital and priceless. I launched the bootcamp application and i chose to partition 32gb for the windows, at this point i turned away to use my main PC playin a game while my macbook is partitioning away. i look back about 10mins later and i see a grey screen asking me to reset my macbook in few different languages. i didnt really read it properly thinking its apple and everything is idiotproof! it said to hold the power button in for few seconds to reset which i did, i resetted it and i was expecting the bootcamp to relaunch to further continue the operation (installin windows time or doin the driver disk thing) but it doesnt happen. i put the xp disc in and it doesnt load, and i look in finder and im missing a good 32gb, i restarted again holding the option key and i only see the Mac HD icon. i am a fairly new mac user and i just want to keep it full mac, i want to restore the way that it was without the stupid windows idea. is there a safe way to remerge my partitions together into the orginal full one? also ive used disk utitilies and it doesnt pick up another partition.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI remove the boot camp partition by using the disk utility. Removing the partition resulted in a gray space, that couldn't be used by the Macintosh HD partition. I tried to merge them together, but after working a while the disk utility keeps giving me an error message. I'm not very good at explaining, so take a look at the pictures below. First off i start up the disk utility: Then i rezise the Macintosh HD partition: And then i try to partionate, and after about 5 min an error message pops up: I have no clue how to solve this one.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using Bootcamp trying to install the Windows 7 and it went alright until rebooting and starting to install procedure. The computer cannot read my flash drive and finally ended up with installing failure. Then I tried rebooting several times and suddenly the bootcamp partition (with nothing in it actually) cannot be read.
I came back to OS X and tried to delete the bootcamp partition but after a while failed. Then I cannot see the Bootcamp Partition in Finder. In disk utility it became "Free Space (I'm using Chinese system and it shows "可用空间“ in both name and format)."
Cannot be deleted through the minus button, cannot be formatted, and all the options are grey (cannot be clicked)
In recovery mode (command + R) it remained the same.
I can normally use the other partition in Mac OS X.
How can I delete the unusable partition and regain the space? To combine the two partitions back together is the best choice but HOW?

I recently tried installing Ubuntu on my MBP. After never really using it, I deleted it and removed all the partitions. My problem is that there is still some 'empty space' (about 5 GB worth) that I cannot re-add to the main HD's partition. The space is not a partition of it's own, I can resize the partition box down to it in Disk Utility, but I get an error.

When partitioning so that I can install XP, bootcamp claims that specific files cannot be moved, making it so that I am unable to install XP. It then orders me to ~gasp~ back my files, and reinstall OSX. Anyone else have this error message? I wanted a 14GB partition, and that would leave about 16 additional gigs free on the OSX partition
View 24 Replies View RelatedTo make a long story short, I cannot get past the stage in the Boot Camp install process where you make a partition on the hard drive for Windows. I get this error message: The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. I do not have a removable hard drive to back up my data on. I've got two flash drives that I put my most important documents on but that's it. I can use my IPod Nano to store my ITunes library until this gets figured out.
The only data I would really lose would be my firefox information, though I did get the book mark history, my video game saved data (4 games), and programs like Word 04, Flip4Mac, and other miscellaneous gadgets. I have already shelled out $80 for the Leopard upgrade and $120 for XP. I have no other need for a removable hard drive and as such I will not buy one. I just got off the phone with Apple Tech Support, one hour of it, and after trying repairing disk permissions and other Disk Utility functions we got nowhere. I tried booting from the Leopard disk and doing the same Disk utility repair/repair permissions to no avail.
Varying the size of the partition had no effect. I tried wiping the free space on my hard drive via Disk Utilities and that did nothing. I have plenty of room on my hard drive, it's 120GB and I have a shade over 60GB remaining. The information on "Mac HD" is as follows:

During the rebook with the Leopard CD, there were apparently some disk permission errors. During the repair permissions process it appeared they could not be repaired but were modified or something to that effect. I just ran another -verify disk-verify disk permissions-repair disk permissions and these errors did not show up. A subsequent attempt at partitioning failed. I was directed to call tech support tomorrow AM and am supposed to ask for someone in 'Tier 2', but I'm hoping someone has some ideas that do not including wiping my entire hard drive and starting from scratch. Particularly since I don't know if that will actually work
I tried yesterday to make a Boot Camp partition on my MacBook Pro 17"s 500GB hard drive, but something seems to have gone wrong while installing Windows 7. And the new partition was inaccessible from Disk Utility, so I deleted it by booting from the Windows 7 disk. But now the unallocated space from the deleted partition isn't showing up in disk utility, and I have now idea how to remerge it with my main Snow Leopard partition.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI just installed bootcamp and the drivers from the apple cd, it went smoothly. It was installed on a new 20GB partition. I use Windows XP,and OS X 10.5.7. Now,after the windows was installed, I restarted my mac, hold option and chose the OS X partition, there was the apple logo then a blue screen,and it stayed that way. Blue screen was changed by a bluish-gray screen every 25 seconds or so,but that was short and it got back to the normal blue screen. That went on for sometime and I had to hold the off button for 5 seconds to turn it off. I tried starting os x from safe mode, it took longer to start, but it still wouldn't work. I used the "Bootable Utilities" disk,and opened Disk Utility,and Disk Warrior,checked the disk,they didn't find any errors.

I have also tried deleting other files in order to "flush out" the trash and hopefully open up the rest of the space, but that didn't work either.

I partitioned windows XP onto my Mac HD a few days ago. It worked beautifully until last night. Whenever I booted to it, it stuck at the welcome screen for 10 minutes, and was really buggy upon startup. This morning, my MacBook Pro (bought in August '09) upon turning on automatically boots to windows XP. No amount of holding "c" or "Alt" will bring up rEFIt or boot camp selection pane. And the kicker is, the windows XP partition is completely corrupted.
Here's what happens now:
1) Turn Macbook Pro on, hold down "c" or "Alt"
2) White background for ~ten minutes, nothing happens
3) After a long time, boots to black screen and says "Startup Disk Error... Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.
I'm pretty sure its trying to boot to Windows XP partition, because Ctrl+Alt+Del is not a Mac OS X command... But I can't boot to my Mac OS X partition.
Disk Utility Crashed whilst creating a Partition, and I now have ~100GB missing, which was the amount I had allocated to the new partition.
The new partition didn't get created, and I now have 100GB missing from the Hard drive. I have a 1TB hard drive, and when I go to Disk Utility, it says: Capacity : 999.35 GB (999,345,127,424 Bytes)Available : 586.1 GB (586,103,844,864 Bytes)Used : 310.52 GB (310,524,317,696 Bytes)
Which adds up to about ~900GB.
I tried Repairing Disk in Disk Utility, booting into Recovery Mode and Repairing Disk there, but neither made a difference.

I would like to "Back-up", "Clone" or create an "Image" or whatever else people call it of my bootcamp installation. I know I can create an "Image" of bootcamp via disk utility but how would I restore it?
Would I first delete the bootcamp partition and then re-create a bootcamp partition and then restore? Or would I just restore? Will the end result be what I am expecting, i.e., my Win 7 install right back to the perfect state of when I created the image?
Right now, let's say my Windows 7 install got smoked one day for whatever reason (it is windows...) and I needed to re-install. Me personally, I would just go into Bootcamp Assistant, delete the Windows partition then create a new one and then get installing. Unfortunately installing and updating takes hours and that is what I am trying to avoid.

View 4 Replies View RelatedDid a fresh Bootcamp install of Windows 7 on my MBA running 10.9.4, switched back and forth a few times and now the BOOTCAMP partition doesn't show up in the left pane in Finder. I hopped into Disk Utility to see what was going on and it was there, just not mounted, so I clicked mount, was told it couldn't be mounted, and it suggested I run first aid on it. I clicked Verify, nothing useful to me, then Repair, and got quite a lot of feedback that I do not understand, and then after that it was still unmountable.
I tried to copy everything it said into a pastebin because it was very long with lots of starting and stopping and counting percents inbetween, but it was over 500kb and that's the limit for free users on pastebin, so here's a trimmed version. [URL] .... I tried booting into Windows after that, and it jumped into System Repair. Apparently, according to Windows, my Boot Manager is missing or corrupt... and since I still can't access it from the Mac side of things, I thought I'd just wipe the partition in BootCamp Utility and start over.
Except instead, I get this error: "Your disk could not be restored to a single partition.An error occurred while restoring the disk to a single partition."
Disk Utility let me wipe it but I still can't mount it, either, again suggesting I run first aid on it (this does nothing). I can't boot into the Mac's Recovery mode either. It just jumps straight to Internet Recovery. When I hold option upon boot, all three partitions show up (Mac, Recovery, Windows), but when I click the recovery one it loads for a bit and then the laptop just instantly shuts off.... Have I corrupted my internal harddrive perchance?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIm trying to partition my Macintosh HD and install FCP X on the new partition, because I want to still use my Final Cut Studio when needed. I want to install MAC OS on the new partition so I can use it as a start up disk as well. I followed the instructions as directed.
I restarted my computer and held the command and "R" key. In the disk utility I selected my HD and selected 2 partitions. I named them and entered the size and selected GUID as scheme. but when i hit apply i get " Failed, cant unmount disk" how I can successfully partition my HD.

I have a Lacie 1TB external drive. I'm trying to create another partition on it using Disk Utility so that I can use one of the partitions for Time Machine. When I go to add another partition, or even just resize the existing one, I get an error saying drive must be HPFS+ with Journaling enabled. It is. I've seen reference to this error in searches, but have not found a solution. Is there a fix for this, or another tool that I can use to re-partition my drive without wiping out existing partition? I have about 450GB worth of data on the drive that I might be able to store somewhere else temporarily, I would just prefer not to have to go through that....
