MacBook :: Applications Folder Disappeared - Any Way To Put It Back?
Aug 16, 2010
My application folder in my dock just randomly disappeared, and I can't figure out how to put it back! I can go to my apps via Finder, but I want to basically copy and paste my apps folder from Finder to my dock, but all it does when I try to either c & p or move from Finder to my dock is the poof thing.
Suddenly, all my applications in the applications folder have disappeared! I was suspicious when, trying to open up various apps on my dock, they wouldn't open and I got a question mark over the icons. It is showing '0' applications. I tried copying my applications from my external hard drive. It looks like it is copying over and when the copying is finished, poof, it disappears and applications folder shows '0'. I am on Mac OS 10.3.9, iMac (lamp-shade style), processor is 800 MHz G4, and memory is 768 MB. This is pretty critical, I can't do anything with no applications! (Would this be some strange virus?)
I had a certain "on my mac" folder and it suddenly disappeared when I was reading my mail. When I search my hard drive, this folder is still listed under the library. Does anyone know how I can get this folder back into my mailbox and with the other "on my mac" folders?
So I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and I haven't noticed much of a difference on my MacBook. Anyways, when I used to open my applications folder all my app icons were smaller and they would all fit in the box. Now when I open it, I have to scroll to get to the different apps. How can I change this back to what it used to be?
I have a 500 GB harddrive but only a 250 Gigabyte external. I was wondering if I could set it so that time machine only backs up stuff that I think is important rather than my entire laptop.
I need to reorganize my music folder on my laptop and I need to know if when I move all 7,500 songs into proper folders if I'll be able to get my library back to the state it's currently in without having to redo everything manually. I've gone through a great deal of time (2+years) rating my music and making playlists for specific occasions. So it would be a huge pain to have to redo everything. Also, will it effect my iPod classic or iPod touch if I do this?
my gf has the new mac with the leopard os on it. today just out of nowhere the dock disappeared. i restarted the computer, it showed up for a short while and disappeared again for good. i checked the dock options but there is nothing about permanent hiding or anything like that.
Ok. So I'm trying to recover my files from an old powerbook harddrive. I have it hooked up to my macbook pro via a usb harddrive enclosure. Everything looks like it shows up, but I can't find my personal files. The drive was totally full, and when I click on info it reads that there is 55 gb used. But when I look at it in finder and use command-j and select "calculate all sizes" there is only 5 gb accounted for.
I have had an app called Total Finder installed, they recently did an update, which caused me to have sidebar problems. I have since deleted this app, because I couldn't work without my sidebar.
After deleting the app, and re-launching finder, I now have no sidebar, no options, search box or back buttons in my finder window, and my folders open in new windows when the 'always open folders in new windows' box is unticked.
How do I get it back? Tonight my finder sidebar has disappeared and I can't work out how to get it back. When I open Finder there is no side bar showing my HD, Apps, Docs, Movies, etc. Don't know where it's gone or how to get it back.
I used to use Image Capture application to scan photos with my cannon scanner. Today I wanted to scan some pics, but the Image Capture application is just suddenly gone! Tried searching, everything, the app just completely disappeared from my mac, I have no idea why. Is there a way to get it back
The safari menu bar normally at the top of the screen has disappeared suddenly and i dont know how to get ut back. has this happened before or does anyone have ideas on how to fix it?
I'm an idiot, pleased to meet you.I had 2 external drives connected to my Macbook Pro, both had time machine back ups on...I meant to delete one of these but deleted the wrong one, and dragged it into Trash. On realising my mistake I tried to drag it back out of Trash, as you would normally but after "preparing to copy" for four hours it told me the drive was full...It's a 500gb drive, and the Time Machine back up is the only thing on it, so presumably it's just trying to copy itself when the back up is still present on the drive, albeit in the Trash.
Looked at my ITunes library last week to try and make a new playlist but all my years of music/videos etc has disappeared without me doing anything? I have had very bad luck with Time Machine as well and realised not long ago that for 4 years it has only been backing up 'Desktop' and not the whole computer. I backed up all my photos and docs on various DVD's and CD's once I realised but I cant see that I backed up my Itunes library. I am only hoping that on the 'Desktop' external hard drive back ups that I can find it again? If it is on there, how do I get it off as I have heard that you can not retrieve certain items from an external hard drive especially with Time machine although I have never needed to before. Do you think all my songs etc have gone forever now?
I made a misstake. I was testing out parental controls and it prompted me to create an administrator account and put my account under parental controls. When I did that and applied restrictions to my account i set it so that only accepted sites (ones allowed by the administerator and in the bookmarks bar) could be visit.
After a few days I went back and deled the administrator and got rid of parental controls but now all my bookmarks and folders are gone.
Is there a way I can get all my bookmarks back? (I don't have a time machine hooked up, but I am running OSX 10.7 Lion)
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I recently upgraded to 10.6.4 but stupidly did not create a back up immediately afterwards. Now, a couple of weeks on, after some music software crashed I appear to have lost all my system utilities files in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. This includes my disk Ulity File. I cannot locate them via finder and although I have certainly not deleted them, they have gone. I can't repair my permissions etc. I tried restoring the Utility folder contents from the previous OX version via Time Machine, however ( as expected) I got a message declaring the Utilities file was not the correct version.
I'm not tech savy at all, so I need any advice people might have about this. A couple of hours ago all the files in my Documents folder disappeared. The folder is there, but only two documents are in it (the two I was working on today).
I can't find any of my files by searching in the finder window. I have no idea where to start on this. I haven't backed up any of my files because clearly I was operating under the misconception that losing all of my documents all at once could never happen to me.
So my computer has about 4gb of free space on the hd. I leave for a few minutes, come back and see in the finder that there is 0KB! It also won't let me do anything, not even quit itunes because it says it can't save the library file. It's weird because the computer was idle, I'm pretty sure the only open app was iTunes.
So I restart the computer but nothing has changed. So I transfer a bunch of files to an external HD then delete them. So I now have free space. I want to know where the space went though? I opened OmniDiskSweeper to see what's taking up space and I see this folder called "private" that I've never seen before. Where is this located and could this be the space that disappeared? I included a screenshot so you can see where the folder is.
My documents folder has disappeared, but i know it is still there. I can navigate to it thru the terminal. I can even open it via the terminal, but once i close the window, it is gone again in the finder. If i change it to Column view while i have it open,it shows it as greyed out in my home directory.
I have looked at the permissions, and they are set to give me rwx on the folder and everything in it.
I was trying to share this folder, which resides in my secondary hdd. Since i find it too **** hard to share some folders with a windows pc, i guess i messed up some stuff somehow. I tried creating user names, changing share settings but NOTHING worked! The share window is just ridiculous! But anyway That's not my main problem now.Every single file that in that folder i tried to share is gone now. The subfolders are there, but the files are gone. And not deleted; gone. Because i can see and open them with the Pathfinder application. Also can see them under bootcamped Windows. And yes, hidden files are shown at the moment.
