MacBook Pro :: Sound When Plug In Headphones
Jun 3, 2010I just bought a 15" MBP last week and got a few apps installed on this machine. And now it looks like I have a problem with the sound. When I use the built-in loud speakers, it is totally fine. But when I plug in the headphones. The left one is bigger than the right one. I check the sound configuration, the balance is put right in the middle (for both built-in loudspeakers and headphones). Therefore, I have to put it 3/4 on the right for the headphones. But I just don't know what is happening with my MBP. I believe probably there are some conflicts between the installed software with the drivers or something, but since it happens for both Mac OS and Windows 7 (Boot Camp), I guess I was wrong then.

Jul 12, 2008I have a problem with the headphone jack of my macbook. When i plug in some headphones or external speakers, it wont get sound to them, just like the headphone jack isn't there and the sound come out from the macbook speakers. The only ones that seem to work are the ipod original ones, but not if insert them completely, they need to be strategically plug in, like half in and half out, and if i move it a bit more the sound goes back to the speakers again. Does anyone knows what this might be and how to fix it? I can't use the warranty, because the warranty time already passed.

Jan 15, 2010I recently installed windows vista (home edition) via bootcamp on my macbook pro.
Everything is running perfectly apart from the sound. I think it might an issue with the computers sound card. When I plug my headphones into the audio output jack, no sound comes through... it still plays out of the speakers. The sound is audible, but just barely.
What may be causing this? Are there any specific drivers I need to install?

Jun 12, 2010I was wondering if there was a way to use the iPhone's audio jack as an external jack for the macbook pro via USB or so, as i own the 13 inch model, that only offers one jack.
I want to use garage band just trying out a bit and i'd need an extra jack for the headphones, otherwise the microphone will record what's played over the internal speakers.
EDIT: I forgot to say that I already tried things like AirPhones, meaning wireless stream to iphone. But there's unfortunately few moments of latency, so i hardly can use it for recording.

(???) The file is NOT in that location mentioned in the crash log. According to web searches, MasterofDefense is some game, but I have never installed any games on my machine.Â

In my prior setup, I've always had my Macbook Pro Line-Out connected to a set of speakers who allowed for my headphones to be jacked into it.
I had no problems with this setup as it allowed me to use either one.
Now, I bought a new Logitech G35 headset which has a USB end as opposed to the 1/8" jack, and I have to switch between the speakers and headset via Settings > Sound > Output.

May 4, 2007What is the sound quality like on macbooks? I've heard that it's not the greatest and I am prepared for that. I have a 17" dell and it has an unbelievable sound system for a notebook. Is the one of the macbooks really that bad? Anyone just down right frustrated with the quality? I can always get some speakers later too and hook those up when I really wanna crank it. Also when you use your notebook most of the time you will just be listening through your own headphones anyway and I'm sure it's loud through headphones, correct?

Apr 7, 2012Basically, I'm using a Macbook with Snow leopard (version 10.6.8) and in the last week or two (though it couldn't happened previously and not been noticed) whenever I remove my headphones from the macbook and go to listen to some audio, the mute and volume up/down buttons on my keyboard do not respond to changes in the volume. Â
So when I'm in itunes the only way to change the volume is by pressing pause in itunes itself and to use the slider, the keys F10, F11 and F12 to change them don't do anything. It's the same when watching youtube videos - the audio can only be muted through the button on the website and not through the audio buttons as I can do usually. Â
This problem goes away when I restart the macbook. Obviously it's not a massive issue, but restarting after finishing with my headphones just to have easier control over audio is annoying, and I was wondering if anyone else has this problem or has dealt with it?

Apr 16, 2012My sound works fine at first, then I plug in my headphones and sound still works but when I pull out my headphones I lose sound in headphones and speakers on my 13" MacBook Pro. Only a reboot (as far as I know) fixes it.

The problem seems to only occur when I am on the same network as an Apple TV. If I unplug the Apple TV, or turn off Wi-Fi on my Mac then the headphones start working again. Obviously this isn't a great workaround, as I like to be able to stream music over the Internet and listen using headphones. May 28, 2009I've noticed this happening for the past few weeks. Basically if I'm watching video on any flash website like YouTube, and I plug in headphones, I get a kernel panic. So as normal I hold the power button to shut it off. However, when I turn it back on, it will beep 2 times, then 3 times, and continue to beep until I turn it off. When I power it on again, it won't beep but it sits on the blank screen before the Apple logo shows up and basically nothing happens and my fans start to go loud. I did this about 3 times before it loaded to the Apple logo loading screen and finally booted properly. After it crashed I removed the headphones, and nothing except the magsafe charger is plugged in.
