It has a sticker that I'm supposed to place on my MB (or any device I want protected), register at their website for free [URL], and when my MB goes missing the sticker will provide whoever finds it a way to return it to me (plus $20 reward and any additional reward I might offer). Two questions: Has anybody tried this and does this service actually work? I'm kind of curious, but I'm also thinking that the reward might not be enough to deter them from just scraping the sticker off and keeping the MB...

Feb 6, 2010I just experienced my first kernel panic (very scary). Fortunately I could restart the MacBook without any problems. It happened while I was watching a video online. I'm running Mac OS X version 10.6.2 and I had 5 opened apps: Safari, Firefox, Mail, iTunes and iChat (all the latest versions) I would really appreciate if somebody can interpret the log so I know if my computer has a serious problem.

May 13, 2012Macbook Pro won't boot. Symptoms preceding failure included failure to open Firefox. When trying to cold boot I can get as far as the start-up sound, the Apple logo, and the spinning whieel (spins for a bit but not for very long) and then major failure. Not running Liom.

OS X :: Expose With Safari Options, Pics Included
Sep 13, 2009The problem is that when all I have is safari windows open, expose keeps lining them side by side instead of spreading them out. In the first pic you'll see what I mean. If I open something else along with the safari windows though, it will spread them like normal, second pic for example. I think it probably happened after one of the last updates.

I had recently purchased, then returned, a Logitech Quickcam Vision Pro for my Mac Pro. I returned it because the picture in iChat was almost pitch black (but was fine in Photo Booth), but more importantly, the zoom angle was way too wide.

Sep 29, 2007I just got a powerbook 667Mhz DVI yesterday. It has 10.3 on it with a bunch of apps and stuff pre-installed. But when I launch some of the apps, it freezes. So I want to just get 10.4 and install it and start fresh. But do I need a special powerbook install disc, or can I just go out and buy the newest standard OSX version, which will include all the drivers that I would need for it?

Mar 30, 2012i have a macbook running 10.5.2 and i want to upgrade it. i heva a mac mini whivh came with a disc of 10.6.2 on it and i wanted to know weather i can safely upgrade my macbook using this disc, without wiping my memeroy. the thing is, its not just the standard 10.6.2 install disc, it says mic mini 10.6.2 install disc, so i belive it is a biuld disc ( if thats what they are called) and i wasnt sure if i can use this or not.

I wanted to know how I can do this without running into any issues, because I know that most email applications (on both the sending and receiving ends) will not allow you to send and won't accept emails where 150 people are CC'd (protection against spamming).
I know of several bulk email programs (such as the one's that can be found on versiontracker here), but I wasn't sure if I would be able to use the built-in templates provided by Apple Mail??
Anyone have any ideas as to how I can set things up ahead of time so that once our baby is born, sending out the announcement (USING THE APPLE MAIL TEMPLATE) will be a simple matter of clicking a button or two?

OS X Mountain Lion :: Time Machine Backups Excluding Bootcamp But Want One Folder Included
Aug 21, 2014I use Bootcamp occasionally for some software that is not available on a Mac as well as MS Office, but unfortunately, I had the partition set to 150 Gb when I set it up which is way too much. I don't want to reformat etc. to reduce the size so just recently, I decided to use that partition for my iTunes folder plus Gb's of work documents which suits me just fine.
I have Time Machine setup to backup my Mac and whereas before I had Bootcamp excluded, I am now trying to have the settings so that all of Bootcamp is excluded EXCEPT for 2 folders - iTunes and Personal. I can't see a way to do this because since I have Bootcamp excluded, the subfolders are non-selectable. I tried one way where instead of selecting all of Bootcamp, I did a CMD-A and selected all with an idea of deselecting folders, but even this way, I am unable to deselect the 2 folders because all folders are greyed out.
So the question is - Is it possible to exclude Bootcamp and at the same time to de-exclude the 2 folders? If not, I suppose my option would be to backup (well, actually copy!) the 2 folders to my TM drive.

Apr 8, 2012Why are the pictures included in "Mail" reduced in size and quality - the old Entourage mail always sent the pic in full size. A 1MB pic is reduced to about 100kB and the printing quality is reduced.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: SSL Server Certificate Does Not Work (copy Of Cert Included)
Mar 12, 2012I am desperate for help because whatever I do I cannot get my own certificates to work. When I first set up Lion Server a so-called Intermediate CA and a corresponding SSL server certificate was automatically installed and that works fine. Now, I wanted to create my own Certificate Authority (CA) and a leaf SSL server certificate.[URL]First I created my own CA, and then I created a new certificate with the Server App (ID type "leaf", certificate type "SSL server". (see screenshots below), and I had it signed by my own CA. When I checked the certificate it said "valid".Next, I exported the certificate from the keychain (as .p12) and then I went to Server App's "Import a certificate identity" to drag and drop the certificate onto the window. So far so good.
When I opened the list of certificates (Server App -> Hardware -> SSL -> Edit ) the new certificate showed up once, and after the Server App had tried to install the certificate it simply did not show up any more. I have copied the important parts of the certificate below (private parts have been cropped).The common name and the DNS name are "myserver.domain.private", and yes, DNS is working fine.(I stopped started services and re-booted in between creating and importing the new certificate.)

Jun 28, 2012I have previously used the GRAB utility to take a snapshot of an open Safari windiw, and the snapshot included the entire windiw contents. When I opened the snapshot in Preview, I could scroll up and down and view the entire contents of the original Safari windiw. Then, I tried it again a few hours later on a different Safari window, but I then got only the part of the windiw that was visible in the browser at the time that I GRABbed the window (i.e., when I took the snapshot).What do I need to do to get the entire windiw?

Jun 28, 2010So last December my laptop got smashed and everything works except for the backlit screen. In fact I can still use this laptop it is just extremely hard since the screen does not light up. The person that smashed it ended up buying me a new laptop so I have this beat up (and I mean the shell is destroyed) laptop with quite a lot of functioning parts.
Now a few weeks ago my girlfriends Grandad spilled a beer on his brand new 2010 Macbook. The logic board is shot so it is almost cheaper for him to buy a brand new laptop.
Would it be possible for me to take the logic board out of my 2008 Black Macbook and put it into his 2010 White Macbook?

Oct 27, 2010By far the most interesting benchmark trend coming out of the latest Macbook Air tests is that of the 320M GPU - is this thing somehow clocked differently than in the Macbook/Macbook Pro?

The latest Macbook Pro 13" 2.4 Ghz gets 33 FPS in Call of Duty 4, whereas the Macbook Air 13" (using the same 320M GPU) gets 40 FPS. Even the 1.4Ghz 11" gets 37! So obviously we're not talking about a CPU limited game - the only explanation then is that the GPU in the Macbook Air is clocked differently than in the 13" Macbook Pro, no?

Again the Macbook Air clocked at 2.13 ghz is beating the 2.4 Ghz Macbook Pro in World of Warcraft and Portal! And in WOW the 11" 1.4ghz still manages to beat the 2.4 Ghz 13" Macbook Pro.
Anyone have any additional insight into this? Anand did a terrible job of testing these for gaming performance, unfortunately, so he may not have even noticed this trend.
