MacBook Air :: Using Replaceable SDD Stick?

Jan 3, 2011

I have been doing some research on the MacBook Air's Flash Storage and according to the repair and servicing manual for the MacBook Air (see attached files) there is an actual Memory Sick that is in the MacBook Air and is not soldered to the Main Logic Board. This part of the service manual tells you how to remove the memory stick and replace it. Everyone clams it is "non-user replaceable" but this guide suggests that is it possible, if one was able to purchase one of the Memory Sicks.

MacBook Pro :: Non User Replaceable Battery - Carry The AC Adapter ?

Sep 2, 2009

How much better is the battery life in the newest (2009) MBP 15"? The specs say that the non-user-replaceable battery is rated for 7 hours. I'm trying to decide between the newest 15" MBP and the previous generation. My current laptop, a Dell Vostro 1500, gives me about 2.5 hours which is usually sufficient most days. But, I do need to carry the AC adapter and have to occasionally plug it in to make it through my day.The 7 hours sounds great. But, is it *that* much better than the prior model? What's it rated at - 5 hours? Any real world results?

MacBook :: Is Battery Replaceable With New MBP 13'' Battery

Aug 16, 2009

I bought the MacBook Unibody almost as soon as it got on the market as my first Mac (yay) and I'm very happy with it so far.

The battery time I get from the MacBook could be longer though, so when I read about the new 13'' MacBook Pro which now comes with a "new and better" battery, the thought came to my mind that there might be a possibility that this new battery would fit in the MacBook Unibody...

I have looked on Apples website, I have googled and searched this forum but I have not found anything on the subject. Is the thought for some reason obviously stupid?

Hardware :: Looking For A USB TV Stick For My MacBook

Mar 24, 2009

I am looking for a USB TV-stick for my MacBook. I will be using it to watch Freeview (Digital TV in the UK).

The things I'm looking for is that the stick works well with Macs, the software is easy to use, and some recording/scheduling function.

The choices I found so far are:

Elgato EyeTV for DTT

Equinux TubeStick

Miglia TVMini2

The current champ seems to be the Elgato, but pricey at nearly 50. Any ideas about the other two?

I am also open to suggestions to other USB TV-sticks that work well with Macs.

MacBook Air :: Stick With Plans To Purchase MBA Rev C

Jun 8, 2009

I knew I should wait to see what Rev C looked like before buying an MBA, but I am disappointed that we didn't get 4GB RAM or a larger SSD. So now I'm strongly considering a new 13" MBP with 256GB SSD (or maybe 500GB SATA if it isn't too sluggish) with 4GB RAM. I know it's a steal, but on the other hand the MBA price cut is pretty tempting. Is anyone else on the fence about which to get? The 13" MBP or MBA? I'm going to college in the fall so portability is a consideration, though either option would be an improvement over my 12" iBook in terms of weight and even thinness.

I have two major concerns with the MBA rev C.:

1) The battery. 3 hours (with the MBA) is probably good enough in most cases, as this is roughly what I get currently with my iBook. However, the MBP has a major advantage with its new battery tech.

2) Hard drive. I know I would not buy a MBA unless it had a SSD in it, but I really don't know if 128GB will be enough for me down the road. It is right now (my HDD space is mostly music and iPhoto libraries...no video editing for me) but I am thinking that videos from iTunes which I may or may not begin purchasing at some point will eat up space. I would be more comfortable purchasing 250+GB of HDD space in my next computer. I remember in 2004 buying my iBook thinking that 30GB would be plenty. Boy, was I wrong!...................

MacBook Air :: Using Internet Stick For Remote Travel?

May 17, 2012

I'll be traveling to remote tribal Ethiopia and would like to use the Cloud for frequent uploading of photos and journal, so that if my laptop or iPad gets stolen, most of my stuff will be safe on my desktop at home. I'm looking for any suggestions that might broadly relate to this. I was planning to get an iPad, but I'd have to lug around a keyboard to use with it (I'm a fast typist on a real keyboard); worst of all, I wouldn't be able to download photos from my (regular style) camera onto the iPad to get them to the Cloud. Apple's "Camera Connection Kit" doesn't seem to be the answer, by the looks of the many bad reviews.

So then I started leaning toward the small MacBookAir, which would be only slightly large than the iPad, but have it's own real keyboard AND have all the familiar versions of mail and other apps on it. Plus I could download my camera pics and get them to the Cloud via the laptop. BUT the problem with that is that the laptop won't connect cellularly for uploading to the Cloud—and WiFi won't be nearly as accessible as cellular in these remote areas.

MacBook Pro :: Can't Change Permissions Nor Format A USB Stick

Sep 10, 2014

my wife was backing up her photos to our USB stick when suddenly she gets this warning...Just before she had been trying to copy some photos, but the computer didn't allow that, probably some photos were corrupted. I however found those photos on the USB stick, but they are grayed out.I can still open everything else on the stick, and copy from the stick to the desktop, but I can't delete those photos from the stick, trash simply says they can't be deleted. So I decided to simply reformat the stick. However, when I try and erase it, I get this warning

I cannot verify the permissions nor the disk, and I can't repair either, the tabs are simply grayed out. So I decided to check on the permissions on the stick, and suddenly it is in read-only mode, and I can't change it. The lock on the bottom and the droptab won't appear..I tried using google to find a solution and someone pointed out a terminal command, but everything there seemed in order.. I suddenly can only read the Volume, and nothing else, and I can't format nor repair it! I bought this stick very recently, and I want to try everything before I pick up my wallet for a new one! The problem started on my wifes 2012 MacBook Air, and still persists on my late 2011 MacBook Pro. We both have Mavericks.
