It seems to be happening on certain pages, but a lot of different internet sites. Could it be the internet? I ran a virus scanner (XCLAVE or whatever the name of it is) and it came back clean.
View 10 Replies View RelatedAlmost daily, I will be in the middle of browsing the internet and pages will just stop loading. Following this, any already-opened application I click on will freeze, including Finder. If I try to open any new applications, the icon will bounce over and over in the Dock but never open. If I close my web browser and try to reopen it, it tells me that there is already a copy of the browser running and I cannot open another one. The only way to remedy this I have found is to hold down the power button and shut off the computer. Once I turn the computer back on, everything runs normally. I originally though it may have been my web browser (Google Chrome) so I recently switched to Firefox, and the problem still persists. It is extremely annoying.

Everytime I try to visit a webpage with content that isn't only text i get the hourglass and have to force quit both firefox and safari. What can I do to Fix This?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro, and today I've been unable to connect to the internet via ethernet or wi-fi, unless I'm in safe mode. Then everything seems to work as it should, which makes me believe that this is a software issue rather than a hardware problem. I've tried making a new account with administrator priveleges, but that doesn't solve my issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can connect to the internet under my normal user account, rather than in safe mode? I should note that I won't be able to get my hands on my repair CD or perform a clean install of OSX because that stuff is at home, and I'm in college. Also, I'm at a university and don't have a router. I just use the campus-wide wi-fi. Finally, my roommate has no problem accessing the internet in our room via ethernet or wi-fi, but I do. Thanks for the help everyone.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro was working fine when suddenly Safari froze, so I forced quit. After opening Safari again, the page just stayed white and wouldn't load. None of my other programs requiring internet are working either (ie. AIM, Skype), even though my internet connection is listed as connected and other devices using Wifi are working perfectly. Could this be some sort of virus?

I have a macbook pro and have recently noticed that when initially loading any of, google chrome, firefox or safari it takes a very long time for the internet to load the webpages.
It says that there is a full wireless connection but will not load the webpage.
Once the webpage has finally loaded after about a minute, subsequent browsing is as fast as can be expected upon my broadband connection, loading pages in <1s.
However the problem reappears whenever I open a new window, or anything else that might use the internet such as the app store, itunes or apple software update.Â

Why does my Mac book pro keep freezing at the login screen making it impossible for me to log into my laptop?? A multi color spinning disc keeps appearing even before I am able to type in my entire password. This keeps on happening even after a hard restart.

On my second one in three days now, first one froze all day on my first day of having it with only one web page open, took it back and they were great giving me a brand new one and £10 as a sorry. But not a day in this one has done the same! Don't see whats happening as I moved nothing on, never had this issue with any windows computer before.

My macbook is suddenly VERY slow. It can take 10 minutes to open finder or anything else for that matter. I have over 300 GB of space on my internal hard drive so it's be a space issues. The problem started during an import of music from my external hard drive into iTunes. I ended up having to force shut down because it wouldn't respond to anything else. Why is my computer so slow now!?!

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy macbook keeps freezing and loading and won't do anything. It just keep giving me the loading icon. Could it be problems with my memory or hard disk? I haven't installed alot of progams just live messenger, skype and those basis stuff, so my hard disk is far from full.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy MBP has been freezing over the past few weeks. When the computer freezes, the mouse gets hypersensitive, then it will be unresponsive to everything. The screen then goes black. One of three things then happen. One, I manually shut the computer down by holding the power button. Two, same as one except I get a Kernel Panic text file on my desktop when it loads back up (this only has happened once), or three, the computer restarts itself. It once from while I was playing Call of Duty 4, and once right after I had quit it. However, I had SMC fan set high whenever I play it, my computer is on a cooling stand and there's an desktop fan right next to it blowing over and under it. Could overheating still be a problem?
My MBP is late 2008 refurb, 2.53ghz, 9600 w/ 512 vram, 5400 rmp hard drive, 4gb Apple ram. Freezing has happened under both 9600 and 9400 cards.
The 9600 and hard drive have both been replaced by Apple in the past few months due to other freezing issues (the 9600 was defective, but when it froze I would get screen artifacts and the mouse would still move neither of those things happen now).
Sometimes when I am surfing the internet each website gets slower and slower to load, and eventually the little loading rainbow icon just keeps going round and round and it has frozen and crashed. What concerns me also is the fact that when this happens it won't even let me 'force quit Safari'. Although I can still bring other applications up (other than the internet), it won't let me shut down or restart either. The only way to get the internet working again is to press the power button which I know I shouldn't do, but what choice do I have when it won't let me force quit, restart or shut down?Â
I am up to date with all the software updates. Because I was having this crashing problem I downloaded both iBoostUp (off app store) and MacKeeper off the internet to scan for hidden viruses etc, but it still hasn't eradiated the problem.

About every hour or two, my Macbook Air freezes. It will slow to a crawl, where the cursor moves very slow, then it will freeze.

All of my browsers keep freezing up after 5 minutes or so of use. The time amount is very random really. This is true for firefox, chrome, camino, and I think safari. After I quit I usually have to force quit and trying to reopen brings the "already open" error.I know to delete .parentlock to restart but they just freeze again. Not sure if it's my recent OS update or something else. All broswers are up to date.

The MacBook Air that I purchased a month ago, freezes up on me constantly. I've researched various forums, and some are stating that this could be due to the system overheating. I really do not believe this is the case with my MacBook Air, as I rarely use it. I only use it for traveling (I write for a living) and every time I use it, it freezes. It is not hot when it freezes.
I could be working on a document or just browsing the Internet and all of a sudden, the cursor and track pad stop working. Sometimes it's ok and when done, I close the lid, or put it in sleep mode. However, when I return to open the system, my track pad, cursor, everything freezes again! I literally have to shut it down with the power key (not even the apple/quit keys work) and reboot the system. Another flaw is that the darn thing will reboot, but I cannot log it (mouse / cursor still don't work). Therefore, it takes bout 4 reboots to engage it again.
I'm at my wits end. I've had this thing to the Apple Store twice and they always say "I've never heard of this happening" and after extensive troubleshooting, I walk away without any resolution. To say that they have never heard of this issue is astounding to me, because the more I research this issue on the Internet, I'm finding more and more complaints. I will also say that this is my SECOND MacAir in one month. I had the same issue with the first one I purchased (after only one week), and returned it to BestBuy for a brand new replacement. I thought it was a fluke. Guess again ... same issue with this one. After all these years, I decided to take the plunge and get an Apple, but I must admit, I feel completely burned. $1200.00 for a laptop and I can barely use it. I'm sick over the entire thing. I will never buy another Apple again.

I bought my Mac a little over a month ago and I'm really not impressed with it. I keep seeing the little rainbow wheel all the time. When I try to load a YouTube video the whole machine just stops working and becomes unresponsive for about 4-5 seconds. Also, when flicking between tabs on Safari it intimitantly becomes unresponsive. I don't do any heavy power consuming things on my mac. It's basically just for college and recently all I've been doing is using Safari, Spotify and Bittorent. I don't know what I should do. Whether to take it back to Apple or just deal with it. My old Acer laptop was fine dealing with this sort of stuff so I'm really unsure. I feel quite let down although I am a total apple fanboy. Â

I have a macbook pro 13 inch purchased in 2009. My HDD died so I took it to an Apple dealer and they replaced it and upgraded me to 10.6.8, when I took it home I found that some of the applications I had received for free were now missing, and after a few days I was having the same problems with my HDD (folder with ? mark appearing) so I took it back. They told me that I had a virus? They then gave me the apps that had been missing and upgraded me again to 10.7.3 however it is still freezing regardless of whether I am on the internet so its not my connection. I also went to open itunes and it told me it could not find a folder and to choose a location. When I chose Music - itunes - it states I can't and to choose another folder.

I just got my nre 13in macbook pro last thursday (June14) and since then it was froze thrice. One was when I was downloading a game demo, and two more times when I was trying to watch a movie online. The whole system just froze each time, and I had to force shut down by holding down the power button then powering it back up. Then most recently, when I was on a skype call, the whole screen just blacked out, and my call was dropped etc, and it turned back on by itself after 10-20 seconds.

I've had this Macbook Pro Retina for about 3 months now, and it has been working fine until recently. For a few days now, my computer keeps freezing numerous amounts a day. I noticed that it usually happens when I'm on YouTube, I don't know if thats the cause or why its doing it. But every time I stay on YouTube for a while, out of nowhere, when I click on a new link, the loading icon appears, and it stays like that until I have to shut down my entire computer. I even try closing the tab and it just makes it worse.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy wife has a Macbook Air, and has no other problems with any other software. However, using OpenOffice 3.0, when using the Word clone, it will intermittently freeze and require killing the whole openoffice app. NeoOffice also had a similar problem, but it happened much less frequently. Should I just move her to MS Office 08?
