Microsoft on Tuesday announced that it will launch Office for Mac 2011, the latest version of its top-selling software suite, on Oct. 26, with preorders now being taken. All versions of Office for Mac 2011 are now available for preorder from Amazon. They include the Home and Student Edition, Home and Business, and separate purchases of PowerPoint for Mac, Word for Mac and Excel for Mac. On the official Office for Mac 2011 blog, the company also released its last behind-the-scenes look at the development of the latest version of Office. The company highlighted the new "Dynamic Reorder" feature, which gives users the ability to interactively reorder all layers in a document or presentation. Office for Mac 2011 also includes a new "Full Screen" view that offers two perspectives optimized for writing and another for reading. Microsoft also said that the newest Office for Mac was developed with performance improvements a top priority. The team said they hope users appreciate the effort that went into it when they experience the launch speed of each application, as well as the overall speed of the suite. Office for Mac 2011 was sent to manufacturing earlier this month, and Amazon had previously listed the Oct. 26 date. However, Tuesday's announcement is the official confirmation of when it will launch. Customers who purchase Office 2008 for Mac between Aug. 1, 2010 and Nov. 30, 2010 are eligible for a free upgrade. I got the Agua version and I'm on the newest version of Snow Leopard. I would post a screen shot if I knew how to. But when I open OpenOffice in Applications you get the start screen where you usually get to choose between the different programs. First of all on the text "Welcome to openoffice", the bottom half of "Welcome to" is missing. And then all the icons below are kind of stacked onto each other so you can only access some of them and its impossible to see what the icons does, cause the text for them also run into each other.

The document opens and you can see all of the data in a preview window (from finder) but once it opens fully the data/words are not there. I have Lion on a brand new Macbook Pro I just purchased and installed the Microsoft Office 2011 and it opened the excel document I was having trouble with fine.I can't find many links for Office for Mac issues.

I upgraded it to 2011 when it came out (late 2010/early 2011). I have since made a new password and forgotten what it is. The mac tells me to reinstall my microsoft office but when I do, with the office 2008 disc, it tells me I have MORE RECENT SOFTWARE and to use that. I did it on line and cannot find it again.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.2 Update
The 12.1.2 update for Office 2008 for Mac [159.6MB] is more substantial, repairing a global issue that prevented all Office 2008 applications from running AppleScript scripts from the Script menu, while also delivering a number of individual fixes for Word, Excel and Entourage.
More specifically, Microsoft said Word should now launch more quickly and tables will no longer included random instances of bold text. Other changes improve the display of form fields and the reliability of headers & footers in the word processing application.
Meanwhile, Excel should now open spreadsheet files that contain invalid characters and see improvements to the overall performance of calculations. Number formatting for some international languages and stability when saving workbooks that contain PivotTable reports has also been improved.
One of the major focus areas for Entourage was to improve stability when using Microsoft Sync Services, Microsoft said. In particular, Tuesday's update fixes an issue that where all contacts in Entourage or in the Apple Address Book would be deleted and re-created when you use Microsoft Sync Services. It should also prevent duplication of events and other items in Entourage or in iCal.
Other changes to Entourage focused on improving junk mail filtering, recurring calendar events, time zone information, embedded images, and the reliability when Entourage establishes a encrypted channel.

Earlier Tuesday, Microsoft said it has teamed with a select few Apple authorized resellers like Amazon.com to offer students up to 30 percent off its various Office 2008 productivity suites when they're purchased alongside a new Mac before September 8th.
The offer translates into $15 off Office 2008 Home and Student Edition, $80 off Office 2008 Standard Edition, and $150 off Office 2008 Special Media Edition..
Amazon is also offering between $50 and $200 rebates on Apple's entire Mac line through August 25th.
I recently installed Office on my macbook. When using Excel, it quits unexpectedly and a window pops up asking me to relaunch. I relaunch and it takes me back to the last spreadsheet I had open but sometimes it doesn't save the last changes. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Office files and it still continues to happen. Any ideas?

What is the best way to eliminate Office 2008 and to ensure a clean Office 2011 install?
For most Mac programs, I would normally drag the application folder to the trash, and then do a library search for some entries related to the program. Will this work for Office 2008 to Office 2011? I ask because the M$ installers seem to more than simply add the app to your app folder and update the libraries - and don't get me started on the horrors of the Windoze registry errors.

I use Microsoft Word, Excel and sometimes, Power Point quite often at college. They have PCs of course... and I have an iMac. And I wanted to get Microsoft Office at home.
Now, I was looking on the web for different prices and all that. I wasn't sure between buying Windows XP (because I work with XP at college, not Vista) and downloading Bootcamp, or Microsoft Office for Mac. Also, I wasn't sure if the Mac version was similar to the one for Windows... and also if I could transfer files from the PC to Mac versions without problems.
Basically, money wise, if I buy one or the other, there isn't too much of a difference. But I haven't looked everywhere for the best prices available, although I'm guessing it's pretty much the same most places (internet).
So here is my dilemma. I got a letter a few days ago from the college I am going to, and it included a list of requirements if we were bringing our own computer. One of the requirements was if we had a Mac, to have Office 2008. I have talked to a friend who is replacing her current Macbook with another Macbook later in the summer, and we decided that when she bought her Macbook, that we could split the price of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008. Now, should I just go ahead and continue on with the plan with my friend, or what? Is there a huge difference in Office 2004 and Office 2008?

I updated from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4 last night. Now booting takes much longer - as if Finder is taking an extra 5 minutes to load. Then I tried to launch Preview and Textedit for work and neither will launch. They bounce in the dock for a couple of seconds then disappear. I've looked around the net and couldn't find anything that helps. Anyone got any idea how to fix this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.7.3, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4GB memory. Start-up has become somewhat erratic. Consistently, if I close the lid on the computer it won't restart when I reopen it. I'll have to hold the power button down for about 15 seconds, let up and then press it again. Sometimes restarting after a shutdown the computer will go through the long start-up I associate with a crash shutdown. Sometimes login start-up items don't start up. Sometimes I have to click somewhere on the screen to make the menu bar at the top of the screen visible. Overall, unexpected things keep happening. Although I don't think it probably relates, Chrome is my primary browser.

My computer died and I had ship it to apple. I was in firefox at the time that it died. Will firefox spring back open and load those same pages up again for those techs upon STARTUP??
First the techs will have to fix it. Secondly I'm not sure if the sudden termination (aka death of the computer) will count as a "crash" or not.
I know sometimes my computer would shut down for no reason, then I would have to MANUALLY relaunch firefox. When it simply crashes it usually does relaunch automatic (throwing up all those pages u were just on) though, right?
I was on some private social sites and last time I had to turn some hardware in my passwords mysteriously changed also, I got a mobile notice. Although that had nothing to do with apple I need to know if firefox would startup on its own or not so I can change my passwords in advance.
I just found out about Coconut Wifi. But I can't seem to get it to open. When I click on the app nothing happens. Has any one had success with the program? Also, do you know of any other programs similar to it in case I can't make this work.
