May 5, 2009I bought my new MacBook Alu., 2GHz, 2GB Ram, with OSX 10.5.6 about 5-6 weeks ago, and was pretty astonished about how long it takes for the thing to boot-up. Approx. 60-70 seconds (just over a minute).My old MacBook (white), with 1,8GHz, 1,25GB Ram, and Tiger, took about only half the time. (About the same number of Apps on both notebooks)Is this boot-up time of about 1 minute normal, or should I contact Apple Service?

Sep 28, 2009Maybe its the 64 bit kernel but I just timed my computer starting up and it took 1:08.91 seconds. It used to start in 37 seconds (with my old and dying hard drive) I'm really not too bummed because my apps and everything load really fast. I just kind of wonder why it is taking so long to start. A old XP machine at my friends with a 1.81 Processer 256MB vram and 2GB ram starts in 45 seconds. I know sometimes start up times change but this is kind of long.

MacBook Pro :: No Boot Up - Normal Verification Failed
Oct 4, 2009My Mac won't boot. It goes to the screen with the apple and loading circle, but doesn't go past that. I've got WIN7 installed on bootcamp, so I can access that, but when I hold down option, Macintosh HD appears as EFI BOOT. I've used disc utility from my installation disc. When I've checked the permissions, it has failed. It also fails normal verification, saying "incorrect block count for file temp555244.".
I was able to select repair disk once, but that failed as well. That would say "missing thread record (id=554666),
keys out of order,
rebuilding catalog b-tree,
stopped repairing because filesystem verify or repair failed."
Someone suggested I open terminal and enter "fscl_hfs -fy/dev/disk1s0" While it ran the common and gave me a bunch of what seemed like options (r to repair btree, etc) i couldn't do anything from there. I tried entering "fsck and then /sbin/fsck -fy" as apple suggests on their site, but that did nothing.
Here are my specs:
15" Macbook Pro, Mid 2009, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, 2.8GHZ Processor Mac OS X (10.5.8)
I was having similar problems a few days ago, when windows crashed as I was transferring files across partitions using macdrives. I had snow leopard when that happened, and reinstalled leopard. It worked fine after the reinstall, but the next day I started having these problems, which are similar in nature to the inital ones.
MacBook Pro :: It Will Not Boot To The Normal Lion Screen
Jun 15, 2012This morning my MacBook Pro will not boot to the normal Lion screen. Pressing the Alt key during the start process I do get to the Macintosh HD, Recovery HD, Choose Network screen. The mouse moves around, the keyboard works, obviously the screen works, it appears to connect to the network. I did notice when I double taped on the mouse pad it didn't work. What should I do next?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Boot After Restart But Boots After Shutdown
Jun 23, 2014I have an issue with my 13" Macbook pro mid 2010 OSX 10.9.3. It won't boot after restart, but boots normaly after shutdown and start again.
Few months ago my primary sdd Corsair hard disk (I have 2 hdds. Replaced the original with the CD-rom) which I installed 2 years ago, stopped working. Gave the macbook to authorised service provider in my country and they said I need a new hdd and a new hard drive cable. The ssd was still under warranty, so Corsair replaced it with a new one. They gave me SATA3 instead of SATA2 (which at first I didn't noticed). Later they said they don't have SATA2 anymore. Also replaced the broken cabel.
Now it's working. If you start it after normal shutdown, it boots normally. But if you restart it it won't boot at all. The apple keep spinning and the forbidden sign appears. I tried PRAM and SMC reset. Nothing
What should I do? Can the use of SATA3 instead of SATA2 hdd lead to some issues with my macbook? I can try to find and buy new SATA2 sdd hdd but they are expensive and I'm not sure it will fix the restarting issue.

Apr 20, 2010My new MBP has 5 hours of battery when doing light web browsing at medium brightness. Only 2-3 hours when playing low res youtube clips, and 6:45 hours with all apps and wifi turned off and screen brightness at minimum.
When I first turned on the MBP I charged it to 100% and then discharged it down to 0. Is this battery life normal? What happened to 8-9 hours with wifi and web browsing? I can't even get 7 hours with everything off!

Apr 1, 2010I am having issues with the shutdown time of my MBP. Namely, until couple of days ago, everything was fine and the shutdown process lasted for about 5 seconds tops. The other day, when I was about to go to bed and shut it down, the shutdown took unusually long time to execute. From that day on, every shutdown is the same. It lasts for about 40 seconds. This is kinda not that funny, because from time to time, like every couple of months the shutdown would be long like this, but the next shutdown would be very short. I consider this to be normal, as far as I read the various forum posts. What bothers me is that since couple of days ago, every shutdown lasts for about 45 seconds and it is not a problem, since the computer works fine, but is kinda irritating. I also have to mention that no major changes (installation or removal of programs) have been performed prior to this issue, and that my login items list is empty.
I have tried the following:
* Zapping the PRAM
* Executing various Onyx scripts, and used Onyx it to clean various caches.
* Reading, verifying and repairing permission using Disk Utility.
None worked for me.
I am pretty sure there are numerous threads about this or similar subject, but I have not found the one that describes this issue that I have.

Mar 29, 2012Tried to start our iMac get the normal chime, then the gray screen with the gray apple......but then I get a narrow progress bar on the bottom of the screen. The progress bar in the screen gets about 1/8 filled and then it disappears and then I get a second bar ant it also gets about 1/8 filled and then the computer shuts off. I did try to do a reset of the pram ( only thing I could think of) ...did not work. Fortunately, I have Time Machine..

IMac :: How To Return To Normal Boot Order
Sep 3, 2010I created a ubuntu live disc and tried it in my iMac. So I went into system preference=> start up disc and changed the boot order in order to test the disc. Now when I booted my computer this morning it automatically went to booting from the disc even when the disc was not in the drive. I thought it should have just gone back to booting from the hard drive. Does anyone know what I have to do in order to put the boot order back to mac hd?

Apr 15, 2005I installed all the Software Updates available, including the iSight and Airport updates (mainly to get rid of them, and I may add these later to my G5 iMac), and now when I reboot, I get no further than the "Starting Windows Login" part...
I have to assume its something to do with adding the updates as it was all working fine before then...
I can start in Safe Mode fine, and I get in OK, but normal boot halts (no errors, mouse works, just goes not go any further) at the "Starting Login Window"
Any thoughts on how to either A) Reverse the Updates B) Get around this?

I always quit out of all apps before doing a shutdown. I make sure that nothing, except Finder, is running when i shutdown. And, I do a full shutdown, not just sleep.
Yet, occasionally, the apps that were running before I quit out of them will restart when I turn the MacBook back on.

Jun 15, 2008My Mac Pro (2008, 8-core, 10GB, 2x1TB RAID 0) system takes a long time to shutdown or restart. Typically over a minute. I didn't think this was so bad (though I think when I first got the system is shutdown must more quickly) until I got a MacBook and it shuts down in around 10 seconds. I was wondering if the slow shutdown time on the Mac Pro is normal and whether there is any way I could see what its doing while shutting down. It just sits there at the shutdown screen with the twirling icon and I'd prefer to see some messages or status so I know what is going on.

She went out for half an hour and when she returned the macbook had shut down.
The date is showing as January 1st 2001 and the clock began the time at 00:00.
Everything else on the computer is fine, but she cannot correct the date and time.
When she tries restarting the computer she is given a warning that the date and time are incorrect but still cannot fix it.

Aug 19, 2010after months of going back and forth I finally went with an entry level iMac which is perfect in every way. I think... I don't remember the start up time taking almost a minute to cycle from the blank gray screen to gray screen with the Apple on it. The only thing I've done since Tuesday is add two songs in iTunes to test the cd-rom drive. I just ran the extended Apple Hardware Test and everything is fine. Given that my 20" refurb died within 3 months and I returned 2 iMacs prior that one, I'm a little nervous.
