MacBook Pro :: Won't Use The Iphone's Audio Plug As External Plug

Jun 12, 2010

I was wondering if there was a way to use the iPhone's audio jack as an external jack for the macbook pro via USB or so, as i own the 13 inch model, that only offers one jack.

I want to use garage band just trying out a bit and i'd need an extra jack for the headphones, otherwise the microphone will record what's played over the internal speakers.

EDIT: I forgot to say that I already tried things like AirPhones, meaning wireless stream to iphone. But there's unfortunately few moments of latency, so i hardly can use it for recording.

I got my mac book pro in the U.S., but I will be travelling to where there is 240 volt power.  Does the mag safe power adapter switch automatically, so I just need a converter plug, or do I need a transformer to convert from 240 to 120 volts?

MacBook Air :: Power Adapters And Converters Are Not Working Well?

Apr 24, 2008

If so, how do I avoid frying my macbook air and other electrics, like my iPhone, camera battery, and shaver. ?had that built in or something, so as to just buy a weird 3-prong adapter...I saw the set of adapters available on Apple's site, but those would then only work for my laptop charger. I'm sure I could find the UK 3-prong to US-adapter... but what about voltage? I've never traveled overseas and had to convert power before

Applications :: IPhoto And IPad - Can Sync IPad And IPhone Without Having To Create A New Library

Apr 27, 2010

Also, is it possible to share an iTunes library between my MBA and my PC so I can sync my iPad and iPhone without having to create a new library? The library file is currently on the NAS and just wanted to use the same one. Would it allow me to sync my iPhone with the PC and the iPad with the MBA using the same library on the NAS? I know this is more of an iTunes question, but figured I would post it here instead of starting another thread.

MacBook Pro :: Its Overheating At Power Plug

May 4, 2012

I'm getting overheating at the point where power enters the computer (the little cylindrical device that plugs into the magnetized power port.) The transformer feels fine, as does the cable, but that cylindrical plug gets way two hot to touch. Other answers relating to this subject indicate that charging an almost exhausted battery while also using the computer will cause overheating in the transformer, but the transformer feels fine. It's that little cylindrical plug that collects an amazing and worrisome amount of heat.

Mac Pro :: Finding X190XT Power Connector Plug?

Feb 21, 2008

picked up an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 for my X1900XT card. Got tired of hearing the stock fan kick up every month or so needed to be vacuumed out as the fins got clogged. Anywho, the cooler is designed to work alone without a fan and is working great, however I would like to install the fan module for the cooler to give it just a bit more cooling power, especially with hot Alabama summers on the horizon. Does anybody have a spare stock X1900XT fan 3 pin power plug available or know of a source of one? My Mac Pro is still under Applecare, so if anything happens and I need to get it back to Apple I need to return the video card to stock form, thus not allowing me to use the plug that is on the stock fan I removed.

well it does charge just not how it should. when i plug the ibook into the power adapter usually nothing happens. i have to jiggle the plug in just the right way to get it to charge and this involves putting pressure on it in some direction. it has gotten worse so now i have to have constant pressure on it for it to charge. i have tried 2 different chargers so i know its not that. i was thinking maybe the DC board but i was not sure.

Power Mac G5 :: Seems To Break Any Hard Drive - Plug In It - Via USB ESata Or Internal HD

Dec 3, 2007

I get unexpected problems with a dual 1.8 G5 (2 GB RAM, 2 disks inside, both 320 GB). In fact, the machine seems to break any hard drive I plug in it (via USB, eSata or internal HD). The internal hard drive hosting the system is clicking every five minutes or so, and two external hard drives are now mostly unsable (they unexpectedly unmount when copying, or they just don't mount at all). I checked them all with DiskWarrior. Some times, they can be repaired, sometimes not.

The problems appear with Tiger and Leopard as well. I lost Time Machine backups form an external hard drive (Seagate 320GB, got "keys out of order" error message in DiskUtility). The other external HD I have to put my photos (750 GB Seagate) can be used in both eSATA via Lacie PCI card and USB. Both USB and eSATA fail unexpectedly (unmount while copying) and everytime the hard drives seems to fail more and more everytime I try to use them.

I used Apple products since years '80 (SE30) and did not have problems whatsoever with previous machine and my actual macbook Pro. This G5 is getting me crazy, and I don't want to put hundreds of dollars repairing since it is worth less than 800$ actually... Is it the power supply, the logic board, a problem with electric voltage up and down? I always found solutions to problems but now, it is the first time I don't see the light... I feel like everytime I plug a hard drive in this G5, I play with fire and may loose my backups and archives!

PowerPC :: Power Cable Plug Socket Pulled Off Inside Powerbook?

Oct 29, 2005

so today was the day to replace the broken harddrive inside my 12" Al Powerbook and naturally I've ballsed it up.

The problem came at this stage of pbfixit's instructions. In pulling the power cable out of it's socket, I've pulled the bloody socket off the board.

So this is bad, that much is clear, and I need help, and lots of it. What's the best course of action now? It's not under warranty or anything, it was second hand to begin with.

For what it's worth, if anybody else finds this while searching for dismantling instructions, it's actually not too difficult. I would change this section of the instructions though, as I'm sure it'd be easier to lift up the top case slightly and then disconnect these two cables rather than fiddling through the tiny holes. I think going in that way give you a side angle and more opportunity to grip properly. And less opportunity to break your Powerbook. Anyhoo...

PowerPC :: Cannot Start My Powerbook - When Plug In Power Adaptor, There Is No Green Or Orange?

Jan 21, 2009

I went to turn on my Powerbook G4 (Aluminum 1.67GHz Low Res) today and when I plugged it in, I noticied a kind of crackling or popping noise. I unplugged the power adapter and tried again. I knew that my battery was dying before this (could only get about 30 min on a charge). But now I cannot start my Powerbook. Whenever I plug in my power adaptor, there is no green/orange light. However, when I take the battery out, I hear the Powerbook trying to start up (hard drive spin). But then there is nothing but my fans on full blast! They will not stop and there is nothing on the screen. I left it there for a good 5 min and nothing changed!

Mac Pro :: Why The IPad/iPhone/iPod Are Good For The MP

Jun 9, 2010

I find all the negative news about the death of the Mac at the hands of the iDevices to be rather entertaining but founded on a clear lack of understanding of how Apple really sells products.

One only needs to google "growth in mac sales" to see about 4 million headlines expounding the incredible growth in Mac Sales over the last few years, particularly since the introduction of the iPod, then the iPhone.

Is it not plainly obvious that the way to increase Mac sales is to attract new customers to Apple with killer iDevices with the expectation that they might strongly consider a Mac next time they upgrade their computer?

Almost everyone I know, who now owns a Mac, first purchased an iPod or an iPhone, and to a person said to me "Wow, Apple makes some incredible stuff, I need to check out a Mac". In the last couple of months, many of my colleagues have purchased their first Apple product: an iPad - and are now converted Apple faithful that will most certainly buy a Mac to sync it with in the coming months.

So everyone who loves Mac's should love iDevices and the focus that Apple puts on them. It's the iDevices that attract customers and sell Macs. And increased Mac Sales, means more better product for us.
