I am finally abandoning PCs for mac (vista) and considering a MBA. I had a few questions:
1) Is the heat issue resolved?
2) I don't know anything about mac speeds - is a MBA that much slower than a MB that I would notice if doing web surfing/ word processing/ etc.?
I am a PC user (please don't flame me) but am getting ready to make the leap into a MBA which will be my travel laptop. Are there any resources that anyone can recommend on co-existing between PC and Mac. I'm told its no big deal to transfer files like Word, Excel and the like between the two, but quite frankly I'm a little nervous as this is my first venture into Apple. But the MBA just blew me away and now I'm pretty psyched. I've been lurking here a while and have learned a lot but need to get comfortable existing in 2 different worlds.

1. Do I have to purchase OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, and then purchase OS X 10.7 Lion?

I called Apple tech support about the screeching noise I started hearing more than once out of my Air. This was posted by someone else and there is a youtube video floating around also. I am going to take it to the Apple store to have them look at it, but I also asked the rep about operating temp range.
He said that spikes up to 90 degrees are normal, but if it startes to climb or stay in the 90-100 range, then someone should take a look at it.
Not sure how reliable this is, but thought I would mention it.

So far I've moved everything over to @me.com - even going into [URL] and been successful. Now only 1 thing stops me from a complete move - iTunes. My @me.com is not a mobileme account. I never set a mobileme account up. Only when iCloud was up and running, did I set up an @me.com account.So how do I set my primary Apple ID in iTunes to @me.com?

I want to make some rules for some emails that I get. Let's say I get a email when someone resonds to a post I made on a forum and I don't want it in my INBOX. I made a folder for that particular forum. Â How to I make a rule so that all of those emails from that forum go in that folder instead of my INBOX?Â

Since about the 3rd day after I got my macbook pro the computer has been making cracking sounds when I open it. When it first started it just simply made one clicking sound when the hinge is halfway open. Now however, When it is open it makes cracking sounds that don't stop ( open 15 cracking sounds per open). Is this a serious issue that I need to address with my local (and very mean) genius or is this issue not going to continue to get progressively worse. If this does continue to get worse will the hinge crack open? what is this worst that could happen?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI just bought an iMac G5 off ebay and today I tried to use the Tiger install dvd because the previous owner had deleted software like textedit, etc.
Anyway, I put the disc in and clicked on Install Mac OS X, then clicking restart. once the iMac shuts down and begins to restart, as it is on the grey screen you can hear the disc being read, then as the background goes a different shade of grey and the Apple logo appears, a minute or so passes and then the iMac begins making a lot of noise. I went away for 10 minutes, came back and it was still doing the same thing.
So I'm basically looking for help because I really want to erase and reinstall everything.
I have a Rev A 12 inch Powerbook - 867 mHz, 640 RAM, 40 GB hard drive. The machine's always been reliable and has performed great over the years. I bought it the last week of July, 2003.
Yesterday, the Pbook was shut down, and I press the on button so it would boot up. Almost immediately, the hard drive makes a loud, whirring noise. The computer advances to the gray screen with the Apple logo, but it doesn't get past that point and the noise continues, as if it's a car engine that just won't start...
I'm going to take it to my local Apple Store in the morning, and hopefully the data, including my nearly 22 GB of music, can be saved. Any thoughts on how to get my computer working again? By the way, it's the original hard drive installed. Hopefully this is enough info to generate some ideas, I'm stumped.

i know you've already tackled this a thousand times, but, having read those thousand threads, i'm still not sure which of these i should go for. you all seem generous with your opinions, so i'll ask again.i need to replace my 4 year old dell 700m (12.1", 1.6ghz, 512mb ram, tiny 24gb HD) as it has become painfully slow and things are beginning to stop working. i've very much enjoyed its portability (it's small and weighs just over 4 pounds) which is why the MBA has caught my eye. my concern, is that i've heard all these things about it being underpowered - but underpowered for what? the lure of the MBP, of course, is that it's a lot more power for its moderate increase in bulk and weight.

So i followed some recommendations on the board and repaired the permissions using disk utility and then i backed up my Hard Drive using Carbon Copy Cloner. My fans are running at about 3700 rpms and my cpu temp is around 60 C. Is this problem definitely one of the fans? My computer sounds like it wants to explode. I've attached a sound file of it.

I am sick and tired of having to buy a new computer every 2 years (if I"m lucky) because mine gets a virus or whatever (and I have a virus scan thing). My desktop computer loses the internet ALL THE TIME, but I admit that if I used my laptop, which is at school, then I probably wouldn't lose the signal. what do you like most about your MacBook? View 19 Replies View RelatedI was just downstairs in my basement using my macbook and I decided to come upstairs and when I got up here I noticed that my fan is making a weird buzzing noise. I can tell it is my fan because when I make the fans spin faster in smcfancontrol the noise gets louder. Could this be something that is in the fan or could this be a more serious problem? I can take the back case off and check but I just wanted to know if this could be a serious problem with the fan. Is there any chance I could have bent something by carrying it wrong?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI bought a MacBook Pro about 10 days ago and it had several dead pixels. That got swapped out for another one which had bubbles of liquid under the glass. I'm on the third now which has a slightly warped case and is now making this clicking noise (0:15) every minute or so.
I don't know what to do - I feel so awkward going in and asking for another swap. Has anyone else got this noise?
Im going to be cloning My HDD in the near future, and Im going to be making a bootable clone. My one Question is whether or not my VM's will be cloned as well, and will be fully operational after the clone is complete?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a MBP 13" 2.66ghz, 4GB Ram, 320GB HDD. I used bootcamp and setup the drives 150~ for each partition. I installed Windows 7 64bit for some reason when its loading I sit at the Welcome screen for a unusually long time. Several older laptops can bootup (timing past the black windows logo) almost twice as fast. One of the older laptops I am talking about is 2.0ghz core 2 duo. My Macbook air 2.2ghz loaded 2x as fast I know the SSD in the device should make it the same speed as my MBP, but why is the MBP so slow?

My macbook pro was on while I was sleping and I think the power got disconnected and it shut off on its own. I woke up to it making this ping noise every 20 -30 seconds. Â
