MacBook Air :: How To Reinstall HD Start Up Disc
Jun 28, 2014How do I reinstall my HD start up disc?
View 1 RepliesHow do I reinstall my HD start up disc?
View 1 RepliesNow, from what googling I've done, it seems the only way to fix this is a fresh install. Only one problem - it will not boot the install disc when I hold "C" at power up.
I've already done the reset (remove battery, hold power 5 sec) and also reset PRAM. Neither of these helped the system recognize the disc.
I just got a macbook from ebay. It didn't come with its original install discs. I know it's the latest white model before the aluminium updates- it has a 2.4ghz processor and 160GB. I want to re-install leopard on it and do an erase and install. Is it OK to use the leopard discs that came with my housemates imacs? Or will they be different in some way?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently tried to run Onyx which has identified a problem which requires me to run disc utilities from the start up disc. The Snow leopard disc I have only appears to offer Install option.
Q1 Have I missed something?
Q2 Otherwise should I try to run Disc Utilities from an earlier version of OSX
My G-4 startup disc is full and now the computer won't start up. I am told to put a startup disc in the drive and restart from it, but I cannot get the disc drive to open. I have tried everything, including copying over to external hard drive. I read that if you hold the mouse button down, the disc drive will open, but this hasn't worked.
View 6 Replies View Relatedmacbook came with 3 discs: apps/iLife, grey os x install, and snow leopard. I erased, etc from grey os x . Should I have used the snow leopard instead? or simply install snow leopard after the grey os x . the macbook is about one year old.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am planning on wiping my hard drive and reinstalling OSX in order to sell my MacBook Pro.I have install discs for Snow Leopard and am running Lion, but would like to be able to offer Lion to the buyer. I would like to have Lion on the computer (I dont have the disc) and then have it such that when the buyer turns the computer on, they go through all the setup screens as if they were buying the computer new for the first time. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have got my first mac (imac) so sorry if this is a really simple question. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard but I am having bits of trouble with printing. As I have not yet got much data on my Mac I am thinking of going back to my original installation that came with the imac. I have backed up my data I want keep photos, music etc; onto DVD. When I put the installation disc in what is the best option to pick ? I do appreciate that I will have to re-install photoshop and other apps; I have installed. Will I have to re-configure my internet again? Basically I want to re-install the operating system I am also thinking of buying Superdupper any thoughts on this product.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded the internal disc in my MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I had a 320GB and put it a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB. I didn't have the install disc and used the restore option in disk utility to copy files to the new drive before inserting it. It now works, but it's slow to load-up. How do I reinstall my OS, to optimise it? I've lost my original install disc and have since upgraded to Lion 10.7.4Â BTW - my new drive also has some strange noises and I'd like to replace this with a new one ASAP.

I´m trying to discover (with AppleCare support) why my new Air has virtually NO space left on the Start Up Disc...EVER. The OTHER files have always been huge and we´ve trashed everything imaginable. The AppleCare rep suggests that I consider wiping my hard drive clean and starting over. I've done that with my Pro and other computers and will not go there unless absolutely necessary. Today my OTHER appeared for a few hours to be the ONLY kind of files on my SU Disk and indicated I had only 4 MB of space left! Right now, it´s reading that I have all categories of files represented again, but OTHER is still over 41 GB big. Days ago, I took off ALL my docs, movies, photos and am still in constant red alert. That´s why I wonder about DropBox. Some out there on the net say it DOES take up space and others say NO.

I wanted to use Onyx to check the status of my new macbook pro and it told me that the startup volume needed to be repaired. I tried first of all a safeboot as I understood that this would do a disc check but I wasnt told anything from that.
So I then inserted the disc OS X install dvd (10.6) and restarted the MB. After the chimes, i pressed the 'c' button. I have tried two times, once just pressing the button, once pressing & holding (no-where does it say which to do). I have found on searching alo that I may need to press the 'option' key but I have no idea where this is!
Anyway, the disc makes a repetative noise and then ejects, and then the MB starts up.. but not from the disc.
What am I doing wrong please??!

I'm in desperate need of help. Not too long ago I installed the latest apple security update, and I've notice some strange behavior from my imac ( 17" g5 with isight intel core2 duo) shortly afterward.
I can't get my imac to start up, and I don't know what to do. I NEED to access the files on my HD.
do I need to reinstall leopard? if so, how?
I have a new MP Quad and I am noticing that I am always having to repair my startup disk. I will notice the system start to slow down, I will have Onyx verify startup disk and it tells me to repair it. I will boot to SL DVD, repair the disk and it will run fine for awhile but eventually end up in the same situation. Do I need to reinstall SL or is this a hardware issue?
View 4 Replies View RelatedYesterday I had to reinstall Leopard on my Mac. Everything was going fine until a little while ago I turned on my Mac, and after the startup sound and a few moments of the grey Apple, a No Access symbol appeared - or a "broken folder" icon as they call it in the support pages. Suffice to say there was a panic after the events of yesterday and I made several attempts to restart, but the "broken folder" icon keeps appearing and noting happens. I have been able to boot to an external drive.
I first tried to reset NVRAM and reselect startup volume, by holding down X on startup. It showed me a message - "efiboot loaded from device.....error loading kernel". I then tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM - [URL] - but this just brought up the "broken folder" icon again - and if left for long enough a grey folder icon with a ? on it begins flashing on the screen. As best I can tell my only remaining option is to reinstall Leopard.
I have, somehow, reset my entire OSX. The Dock is now huge, all of my icons are now reset to the default ones when I originally bought the Macbook Pro. The software is still there but the icons have been reset. The icon no longer bounces when I open it.
And I know exactly why. I was in Windows through bootcamp doing routine maintenance and decided to do a full scan using Microsoft Security Essentials. I forgot to have it ignore the E:/ drive which is where MacOSX installed. It must have got 25% through scanning it before I realized it. I don't even know if that can cause a problem but it obviously did. I booted into OSX just to double check everything was ok. It loaded fine, all icons where there and seemed like everything was ok. Except the icons weren't bouncing when I opened up an application even though it was checked in the preferences. This frustrated me so I rebooted again to see if that would fix the issue and now here I am. Completely back to factory defaults. My software is still there but the Dock reset itself and it seems as if other things reset. I'm doomed. So how do I start a reinstall process? Insert the Snow Leapord disk?

All of a sudden this morning my Mac Pro hard drive filled up with data...completely. I had a Finder window open and watched as the available space went form 90gb+ to ZERO. About this Mac shows over 100gb of "Other" data and ran Space Gremlin and it shows 207gb of "Restricted" data.

i'm trying to install leopard on my Imac G5 running tiger but here's the deal.
i got a leopard start up disc from another Imac thinking that i could just put leopard on my Imac...all the requirements are met but it doesn't work.
Whenever I start up my mac book pro with my LaCie 1TB ext HD attached via FW800 it tries to boot from the LaCie instead of the internal HD. Obviously there is no OS on my ext HD since it's a movie back up so I just get the flashing folder icon.
