I just bought a MBAir for my daughter, and I created an admin account for myself and a managed account for my daughter. I don't want my daughter feel uncomfortable that her old dad appears sharing her computer and monitoring her. Is it possible that my account icon/picture is hidden or removed from desktop while I am still able to use the account?
As stated in title, the desktop picture will randomly revert to a picture I had up there months ago, usually when I run the battery all the way down on my unibody MB, but also when I change display settings when i plug into an external monitor.
Do I just need just reset the PRAM or is there something else I'm missing.
BTW, I have searched and I know I only have a few posts...
I have this photo for my user display picture, and i've got it cropped because I only want part of it as my display picture.I have to keep resetting it all the time, and its beginning to annoy me a lot.I think its everytime I turn my computer off by holding the power button for 5 seconds (I think) for when my computer freezes or something. Please tell me how to stop this happening & why its happening. If you need the info about it then here it is:Processor 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 DuoMemory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MBSoftware Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)13-inch, Mid 2009
So i dropped my macbook last week and turned it on and the screen is just grey, so i bought an external monitor and hooked it up and everything works fine except when i turn it on all I see is my desktop picture, no icons or anything. What could be the problem and is there a way to fix it?
If I create a second user account that does not get logged into unless I manually do it, and then install a program on it. Can the files on there be seen through the administrators account? If so, how would you hide that sort of thing so that the when the admin inputs the file name into finder, nothing shows up?
I select my desktop picture, and it puts it as it. But once I shut my computer off and turn it back on, it's back to the Lion desktop picture. But when I go into the system preferences, it says that my picture is the one that I selected before.

I've got an external HD hooked up to my iMac and it has some software on there that brings up a CD icon on the desktop.
Is there a way to hide just that specific icon?
I know you can go to Finder and uncheck so that it doesn't show CD/DVD icons on the desktop...but that would mean anytime I pop in a CD it wouldn't show up and I don't want that, just want to hide the specific App icon.
Attached is a picture of the desktop, the new drive icons are a result of a new drive partitioned out. I would prefer not to see them on the desktop but want to see the Macintosh HD, what method would I use to do this.
Does an app exist that hides all desktop icons in certian spaces? For example, I use space two for all my non-work things and would be great to hide the messy desktop this space.
MacBookPro screen real estate limited. Folders and other junk on my desktop can be distracting on top of that.Is it possible to hide them until I need them?

My last enquiry was with regards backing up Time Machine to an AirDisk connected to an AirPort Extreme Base Station, but this is not a recommended solution. Now that I have been able to afford a new HDD that works with my iMac, this is my current setup, which I established using the excellent website by Pondini:Â
- HDD connected via USB to iMacÂ
- iMac backs up to its OWN PARTITION on the USB HDDÂ
- Several Portable Macs back up to the other partition on the USB HDD using sparse bundles via WiFi (drive shared by iMac)Â
Now on my iMac, I have both partitions appearing on my desktop. However these partitions are SOLELY for TM backups and I don't want them to appear on the desktop (mainly due to other users perhaps fiddling around with them).Â
I know that I can use Finder to hide all connected drives from the Desktop, but I DO want USB drives that I connect to actually appear on the desktop. How can I hide ONLY the TM partitions (specifically) from the Desktop??Â
I have found something which suggests that I can use the chflags command in order to hide specific HDDs/partitions, but will this have any effect on Time Machine backing up LOCALLY and also via NETWORK? I was reluctant to "hide" these drives without checking first whether it would cause any problems for Time Machine backups.Â
I need to create a user account for several pupils. I don't want them to change the account picture. How do I lock the picture.I Know there is this Guest Account, I am not talking about that.
I am an experienced user of Unix and Linux, and I come to the mac loving the BSD backend of Darwin. I am working my way through the O'Reilly "Mac OS Tiger for Unix Geeks" book. However, I have "lost" my account picture. I have googled, and searched through this forum and others, and I cant find out how to locate the "Account Picture" image itself.
Let me clarify that. I took a neat picture of my dog with Photo Booth, and I selected it as my account and buddy picture. I believe I deleted the copy that was in my pictures folder, as I cant find it in buddy icons, iphoto library, or photo booth. Yet, in chat, and logging in, that image appears.I would really like to keep this image seperately as it turned out really well, but I can't find the image to archive it. I am, as I mentioned above, no stranger to a Unix shell, but I am a noob when it comes to Aqua.
I just noticed that my User Account Picture does not appear on my Login Screen in OS X 10.7.4 Lion. It never has and I just noticed on another Screen shot of someone else's login screen that their login picture is showing. I kind of like it. Can anyone tell me how to get it to display there? My computer was originally set to autologin when I first got it but I set it to require name and password.
My most beloved Kitty girl had to be put down the other day and I SO want her photo as my desktop. I took an old photo of her and cropped it and went to (on Iphoto) share and set desktop and I had it perfect. Then I played around with other photos of her to see if I liked them better and when I came back to her photo and did a set desktop it was WAY too big. I went to the original on my camera and transferred it to I photo - fixed it and did a set desktop but it is way to big.
I just restarted my mac (Powermac G5 OSX 10.4.11) after I opened iTunes and found no songs in my music box and the song I tried to open wouldn't play. when the computer started up all my desktop picture were gone and all the folders on the desktop were also gone. All the system settings were reset. The content in my storage is all there except a folder which I had open when I restarted - my music folder is basically all gone (including all the music I was working on) except for the one folder I had open in the music file. I would hate to think all the folders are just gone.
my system preferences is not working, i was trying to change my desktop picture and it says loading pictures and comes up with a colour wheel, i have left it for a few days and nothing has happened.
I'm looking for a Picture Frame that will always remain on my desktop. A widget will only show when you hit the dashboard icon and then disappear with a click. I would like a picture frame that will remain on my desktop and automatically shift through my selected photo's.

One of the relatives were complaining about a fuzzy/colourful line over their iMac screen.. I figured it would be a display/hardware issue.. Until I remote desktop'd into the machine. Somehow, the line is showing through Remote Desktop..
Its' just on the background, and stays over the background picture no matter what (I've tried to change it, etc.) Tried to repair permissions too - nothing.
Pictures are displayed in the system preferences/desktop & screen saver window. However, when I click on an image to make it the active desktop wallpaper, nothing happens. I've rebooted. Now what?
