After reading about many people using invisible shield I decided to put on on my Air. After I turned it on though, it looked like the screenshots below. I was so careful with the water, but I'm assuming some must have got in? Is that the case and What can I do?

View 5 Replies View RelatedA questions for all of those who have any sort of invisible shield (zagg, bse, bodyguardz etc etc) on their Unibody MBP (or MB for that matter).
Anyone having any issues with the cpu reaching dangerously high temperatures? I heard that the invisible shield is particularly bad because it insulates the aluminum on the mbp, thereby not allowing it to properly dissipate heat. This is one of the things that's preventing me from pulling the trigger on getting one.
My worry with the hard shell cases is that they scratch the computer and/or let dust particles and other nasty stuff in. Perhaps this will be prevented with the use of the Invisible Shield?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a mac and I'm a first time user so I had a few questions regarding the Snow Leopard upgrade and Zagg Invisible Shields.
1. Does the apple retail store install Zagg InvisibleSheilds for MacBook Pro's? If not, does any other store? I tried installing it myself but I ended up frustrated with a crappy looking MBP.
2. I'm trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard through the apple website but after i finish giving the required information, it takes me to the apple store cart, but the problem is that the cart is empty. Am I doing something wrong? I bought my MBP June 23 and I really don't want to buy Snow Leopard if I could just pay the $10 and upgrade it.
I have had my MacBook for just over a year. A weeks ago, the display started go weird: - strange shapes started appearing on the desktop - a fluorescent green (like vertical strips of 5 or 6 pixels in a group), sometimes as a shadow of a previous open window, sometimes just random squares or lines. The blocks of green go if i run my mouse over them with the button pressed down. -a fluorescent green light sometimes shines around the programme tiles in the dock. -shadows behind open windows very accentuated and fluorescent green - sometimes text on web pages and documents look garbled - again this goes if i run my mouse over them, and either go or comes back in a different place. Some times i can go a few hours without experiences these problems, other times the issue is there on start up. I ran the quick hardware check, and no problems were reported, a week later i ran the extensive check, and again the system seemed fine.

Have been running with Hard Disks and External Disks "Show on Desktop" as unchecked and "Show hidden files and folders" unchecked, and in Windows, renamed the Windows HD Disk" to ".Windows HD Disk". All has worked fine for over a year. All of a sudden, the .Windows HD Disk is on the desktop, as well as the .DS_Store folder. The other hard disks do not display. Despite checking and unchecking the various boxes, and running Onyx, can't make the two icons go away.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a late 2007 SR whitebook 2.2ghz 4gig of ram with intel gma x3100 using Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Last couple months (I think) I've experienced some graphical corruption around the edges of apps (it goes black mostly but sometimes looks like lots of lines) it also happens in expose around the windows, also on dock icons. It happened in 10.6.2 and now 10.6.3, its not happening at the moment which is annoying as i can't show you, my macbook seems to run very hot (well it feels hot underneath though the iStat dashboard shows it idling cpu at 57 degrees c).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 17" MacBook Pro 2,1 ~2006 model 2.33 Intel Processor, running Snow Leopard. A year ago I upgrade the ram to 4GB (though this model only recognizes 3GB), and upgraded the internal hard drive to a 500GB 7200rpm Seagate Momentus. Since April this year, I have had 3 ocassions where the Screensaver locks up, the only recovery is to power off by holding the power button down for a few seconds, which leads to me loosing my drive partition. Because of the way OS X is sucky about mount points, I have the entire 500GB partition as one volume. Up until last week, I treated this as a minor annoyance, as I have multiple time machine backups, and the reformat and restore works and is relatively quick.
Aside from making me reluctant to travel with this laptop (luckily I have an Air as well, but that does not work for all my needs). On my most recent trip not only did the volume get corrupted, the machine did not recognize the drive, or any drives on the machine (incl. the dvd drive). Only after removing the drive completely, a combination of the boot up key sequences for resetting the machine, and booting off the cd, did I manage to get the machine to eventually recognize the hard drive. I am unable to determine if this is a faulty drive, or a faulty machine. I have run the Apple Hardware Diagnostics which give the all clear - I have nothing to stress test the drive, and I am running out of debug options and patience. Although this laptop is getting "long in the tooth", it still works like a champ (except when it crashes), and my only gripe being its weight.

What does this mean and how do I fix it? It came up during safe boot which I used because I have the gray screen with apple logo and waiting that won't let me log all the way onto the computer.

I opened my MacBook Pro (santa rosa, I believe - bought it about two years ago) and the screen froze with some strange banding/patterns across it. I tried rebooting, and after 10 - 20 seconds of the apple icon loading screen, the same thing happens - the screen jams and crazy lines appear. I'm guessing at a problem with the video card...
I've followed all the steps outlined in the comment by Collin here [URL]
1. hold down Command Option P and R buttons for 3 chimes
2. Shutdown MacBookPro, remove power adaptor, remove battery and then hold the power on button down for 5 secs. Refit battery connect power adaptor and boot up.
3. find DVD that came with MacBookPro and press the power button and immediately insert the DVD and once it goes in Hold the D key down.
Step 3 throws the 'you need to restart' error screen, the others just lead to the same corrupted screen as before.
Does anyone have any suggestions or insights in to this problem?
Have a unibody 17" i7 MBP and get the screen corruption primarily when running Safari 5.0 (whatever the newest build is). Interestingly enough I run a program called gxfCardStatus and if I choose Nvidia rather than Intel (or Auto which = Intel) the corruption goes away. If I choose Intel again the corruption is back. Not sure if this is a hardware issue or just a serious bug introduced by Safari 5.0. I don't remember having the problem before upgrading.

What happened is that I had this Hitachi drive in my PC laptop running Windows 7. Last night I got my MBP and decided to put that Hitachi drive in macbook, then format it and install OS X. Once i put the hard drive in and tried to start MBP i kept getting Windows Recovery Screen because MBP was trying to boot from hard drive directly. Since this is my first ever Mac I didn't know what key to press to be able to choose from DVD. On one of the attempts I actually hit "Proceed Windows normally" and it gave me blue fatal screen saying it was not possible...........

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed this proxy extension in chrome (cant remember what its called) but i couldn't get it to work properly so i removed it. However now i have a hotspot shield banner at the top of my browser and i cant figure out how to remove it!
when i installed that chrome extension it made no mention of hotspot shield and its REALLY pissing me off! I dont know what it is, i dont care, i just want rid of it.
Also, google thinks im a robot, telling me im sending out automated queries and Iv'e got to do a captcha every time i want to search.
I have been using Hotspot Shield for a few years now, but the most recent update is for some reason causing it to automatically launch at startup (it has the Hotspot Shield logo in the menu bar).
I have tried looking at the the Startup Items list in System Preferences and looking at the preferences within the application itself. I cannot seem to figure out how to prevent it from launching automatically.
I always used Hotspot Shield to watch American TV shows on the internet from Canada as it blocks my IP address. Ever since installing Snow Leopard Hotspot Shield freezes my internet whenever I try to connect with it.

I have never heard this before, but wanted to seek others opinions as it sounds just too bizarre to be true - I mean how can people run snow leopard server if this is the case and manage data? He is recommending Raid-0 arrays backed up to another raid-0 array nightly, fwiw. For the record, I'm looking at Atto hardware cards and mini-SAS 8 bay enclosures, not software raid. "These days a drive failure isn't the most common means of losing data. What we see the most problems with is what's called data corruption. It's when the data stored on a drive becomes scrambled for one of several reasons. On a software based RAID 0 it's usually easily repaired with tools like Disk Warrior or Tech Tools Pro. When the problem occurs on a Hardware based RAID 5 or RAID 6 the parity can quickly become unreadable making the RAID unusable by the computer. There are no tools that can repair the corruption on a parity RAID once it reaches a certain point. The problem arises because the parity data is stored across all of the drives, and in the case of a RAID 6 it has 2 sets of parity stored on each drive making corruption a huge problem.
If everything is going correctly and your workflow is correct you shouldn't see much corruption. We do see a lot occurring when video is stored on drives, and at times software or OS updates cause corruption all by themselves. OSX is famous for the problem since 10.5 came out. One common way to create problems for yourself is dragging and dropping files from one location to another. When you drag and drop you do not get the whole file, some of the index is lost. Do this enough and you'll have a problem because it's cumulative. Try this; do a "Get Info" on a file and note the file size. Then drag that file to another location and do a "Get Info" on the destination file copy. You'll see that the new copy is smaller, it's lost some index data. Do this enough and the file can become unreadable and will have to be repaired. Do it enough on a parity RAID and you can make the file unreadable and irreparable."
my better half is moving from a 17" macbook pro to a 24" iMac. I did the data migration (used the network. we don't own a firewire cable) for her user account and files, she is still using parallels v3.0, and during the migration the 19 GB parallels volume file didn't transfer properly? so after a successful migration (other than the above) I went back to her 17" macbook pro, ran parallels successfully, compressed the parallels volume, ran parallels again successfully on the 17", then moved the volume file over the network to the 24" iMac, again the parallels program on the 24" iMac (which was just migrated from the 17") reports the parallels volume file is corrupted? what/where should I look for an answer on this one?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI hope the following problem is not too long winded. we have 3 identical Dual 1.8Ghz G5 Power Macs all with 30" Apple LCD screens, when any usb storage device is connected powered or unpowered, memory stick or hard drive, any pictures copied over to the mac are corrupt (lines through them, half the picture sheared off to the left or right, half the pic in another colour etc). f i connect the device to one of our older G4 machines or one of our new imac's there is no problem.

This is on a new i5 received from Apple on Tuesday. Apart from being able to move the mouse, it had hung completely so a reboot cured it. Happened again, reboot fixed it and has been stable for a couple of hours now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOkay, so here's the deal, and I preface this with the obligatory 'yes I know I should have backed up my data and I'm a dumbass for not doing this.'
A week ago my Mac stalled, wouldn't even go passed the startup point. I booted from disk and did all the stuff you have to do before I resigned to failure and deleted my hardrive and reinstalled the OS.
Good news is, Mac is back, working perfectly.
You know how to can go to - insert - hit counter. Can you make this invisible for other people to see? if so, how?
I've tried sing StatCounter, but after I paste my code into the HTML thing, it's blank.
Mac OS X just crashed while I was writing to my external hard drive; I rebooted my mac and the disk is now corrupted. My old partition is no longer mountable, nor can I fix it with Disk Utility. I get the following error when I try to verify/repair it:

It happens randomly after some time, sites will get corrupted text showing up as...
Basically all characters turn to square boxes. Doesn't happen on Safari, seems to be Mac only too.
I have a Western Digital MyBook Studio eddition 750Gb plugged, via USB, into a MacMini (10.5.6). I store my whole music collection (~100Gb) on this drive, and a little while back, started to have trouble playing certain songs from within iTunes. iTunes would not error, it would just refuse to play the track. It then refused to play a long mix, which I had listened to from the very same source the previous day. I copied the same mix back from my laptop and diff'd the two. They where indeed different. If I run "file" on them both, sure enough, the working one reports "MP3 blah blah ...", the broken one "data". I have ran a find over the entire livrary and discovered that about 20% of the tracks are now reported to be "data". Whats more, the corrupted tracks seem to be in groups (entire albums or several albums by same artist etc.).
I'm assuming this is a hard drive fault, but I have run every check in both "Disk Utility" and "Diskwarrior", and no problems are reported.
Can anyone shed any light on what might be going on here, or offer me any advice on how to debug further?
can I delete the folder home or net?Or is it possible to make the 2 folders invisible? I use OS lion10.7.3.

So I just installed PS CS4 as downloaded from Adobe's website. When I resize a window, the gray area in the background becomes totally corrupt. Doesn't affect the document itself but it's distracting. I tried turning off OpenGL drawing in the Preferences but that didn't help. I've not seen any visual corruption anywhere else in OS X but wonder if it's a problem with the ATI 3870 at all. Never saw anything like this with CS2 or CS3. It is OpenGL drawing. It wasn't obvious I had to restart Photoshop for it to take effect.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNormally I build my own machines, but this time around I needed final cut for some projects so I went all out and bought a nice mac pro about a year ago to use primarily as a gaming machine, with final-cut-pro video editing on the side. I've only done a couple FCP edits on the machine and as a result, have mostly used the PC side of things (via bootcamp) and play a game a few times a week on average (Team fortress 2 and FFXI etc). It's run beautifully, easily the best purchase I've ever made.Today is the first day I've had any serious issue with the machine. Having grown up building gaming computers, I am familiar with the corruption (most notably the 'green' corruption that stands out) associated with video cards. Last night I popped on a game called Dragonica that my fiance is into, she needed a hand with some boss thing, so even though I'm not super into it I hopped on. Before I knew it, the screen flickered green-colored-corruption for a second, then locked up. I restarted, thinking its probably a fluke, and before I could get all the way back in, it did it again. I turned off the machine and went to bed (had work in the morning).
