MacBook Air ::300 Mbps Mode Not Working For Router
Dec 7, 2010
I just recently bought a NETGEAR WNR3500L 300Mbps + gigabit ethernet port. I keep hearing that my airport card should handle 300 Mbps just fine. But when I enable it on my netgear router settings my going to "Uo To 300Mbps" from default "Up to 150Mbps" I get horrible bandwidth...like 8Mbps. If i choose 150Mbps, everything opens up. I am going to figure out why 300Mbps mode isn't working.

I'm currently a Verizon FiOS customer so I'm stuck with their router connected to a Time Capsule in Bridge Mode. My iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV's stay connected to the network just fine but my MacBook Pro randomly gets disconnected. Under Wifi settings it says it's still connected to my Network but nothing will process over the internet and I can't access any websites.

My 1.5GHz G4 Powerbook can't play HD video without horrendous stalling and stuttering.
If I buy a new MBP, will that no longer happen? And is this a reason to get one of the faster-processing models?

So I was informed by my uncle that he's retiring his first generation Core Duo 2.16GHz 17" MBP and was asking if I wanted it or not. He babied the system so it's nearly like new. Never took it outside, not even sure about the battery but that's not really a concern.
I want some owners of that laptop for some input to see how "useful" it is these days or should I refuse the offer?
If I were to take the system, it would most likely become by primary machine, basically what I use my MBA for right now. I understand the ram would be limited at 2GB, which is perfectly fine with me. The real advantage would be the hard drive, I can technically store a 1TB 5400RPM drive in there (which I would love to have... my 128GB is pretty limiting these days and carrying a 500GB external around everywhere is bit tiring too).
I look around for specs and so far I see that the 2.16GHz Core Duo and the current 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo in my MBA is more or less the same performance wise.
I guess what I'm really asking is, how well will this system put up for the next year or two. Pretty much, this will replace my MBA as a mobile workhouse. I originally planned on keeping this MBA for another 2 years (8 months right now) then replace to something new. But I'm becoming a bit limited on the disk space here and this seems like an upgrade to me.

i just got a 15" i7 w/ 4gb of ram, and since i might want to upgrade to 8, i went to the apple website and i see that they only offer 8gb available for sale? does this mean I will have to get 4GB somewhere else, or the new MBPs only offer 2 configurations (2x2GB or 2x4GB) and not 2 (2x2GB)s . I might sound confusing

i was instaling updates when the computer froze, and so I restarted it. A white screen with a bunch of jibberish appears every time I do. In the center it states " You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button."
I've tried doing both, as well as a number of key combos to restart the computer. No matter what I do, I end up with the same screen with the same message.
Now, in the background of that message.. with all of the 00x001Aie9 type of lettering is the word "panic", twice. Wondering if that may mean anything? If it's in some sort of panic mode?

Trying to use Expose but I have no idea where F8 is supposed to be, and hitting Function + 8 doesn't do anything. This is my first Mac since my Tiger OS first gen Macbook, and I'm slightly confused here.

I have a 2.2 GHz MacBook Pro (santa rosa) that I purchased in october of 2007 and I'm curious if the new Unibody MacBooks run noticeably cooler than this computer.
Any previous-gen MBP owners have Unibody MacBooks now and could offer some insight?

I just bought a Seagate FreeAgent XTreme 1TB.
After I went home, I checked online and found all these horrid stories about how this HDD crashed after just a month, or two months, or even 2 weeks (there are like 10+ stories about this problem).
What bugs me more is that on the box it is actually written "Designed for Windows Vista" (which I didn't read before buying, a lesson I learned for future reference) so I'm afraid that it won't work that well on Mac OS X.
I did find out that it works on Mac and I only need to format the drive, but I think, logically, if it works as well for Macs, why did they have to put a label that indicates it was designed for Windows?
I want to know this product IS that bad.
I haven't opened the seal or the plastic at all, just in case everyone says it is that bad and I should to return it to the shop.
I'm using a 15" MBP (not the NEW MBP), Mac OS X v10.5.7

I for one had a swollen battery that looked like it was going to explode. Of course, it was no longer under Apple warranty.
I'm wondering what will happen if one of these new integrated batteries decide to swell up and there's no place for them to swell to???

Has anybody tried the Moshi Cleargaurd on the new MBPs? Does it affect typing? Would the cover create any friction when typing? How about ventilation?
I would really apreciate it if someone could show me some pictures of actual usage, not just the photo on the Moshi website.
This is a fairly important question as I have read around these forums that the keys on the new MBPs get worn out really quickly, in the sense that the shine that appears on the black keys are really evident.

I got a brand new Macbook Air the other week. I noticed that sometimes, after folding the computer (with the OS running), then unfolding it - the keyboard and trackpad are not responding at the login screen. Actually if I press the keyboard it lights up properly but there is no access to the system. The only thing that works is the power button, so every time I have to power down the computer, then back on again.

I have a 2010 i7 MacBook Pro. I came across GeForce Mac OS X Driver Release 19.5.8 and CUDA 3.0 from the website: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html(under Mac OS X 10.6.4 Update->What we know about 10.6.4 so far...)Is it advisable to install these drivers on the new 2010 MBP? I assume that whatever included in the official Mac OS/X update have been tested. If we download and install drivers from parts manufactures such as Nvidia, we risk possible untested, compatibility problems.

A few months ago my iPod and mac could quite happily connect to my wifi router and use location services. This summer, however, neither of my two machines can use the location services, but the wifi still works perfectly well. I have a Netgear router and it's fairly old, but why should it suddenly stop working? What can I do to try to start getting it to work again? Should I fiddle around in the 192.168.0.1 url or whatever it is?

I've had my time capsule for several months now, and the wireless has worked fine during that time. A few days ago the power went out in my neighborhood (turned off by electric company for maintenance work), and since then I cant get my network to function correctly. Specifically, my macbook pro, wife's macbook, and my mini can't connect wirelessly to the network if i have any security on the network. If i disable all security they work fine. It also works fine if i connect directly with the ethernet cable. Occasionally i can connect with the WEP or WPA security on, but the computer will randomly lose all signal and not be able to connect again. This doesn't happen if I have the security settings disabled. I have reset everything several times, reconfigured the network from scratch, etc. I don't know if the TC is damaged in some way or how to check it.

I got an old Power Mac G4 Quicksiver 2002 a little while back and I decided to upgrade it a little bit as a pet project. One of the things I did was add an Airport Card so I could get wifi. I read all about 802.11b and WPA2 and all that, and I can't say I understood it all, but what I think I DID get was this: The old airport card cannot connect to a WPA2 network. (right?) I looked at the settings for my router, and it said it was on "WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode." I thought it would work. When I went to connect, it said "WPA Network Needs a Password. I put in my password, and after trying to connect for a little while, it said "Connection timed out." Right now I am connected to the "guest" network, which needed no password. Just to test, I changed the encryption to just WPA, not mixed mode. It stopped my PC from getting wifi, and still didn't work on the Mac. I got it to work by putting NO password, but I really don't want that. Should I try to change it to WEP? I'm not really a tech type of person, especially not with wifi stuff, I'm kind of just stumbling around with Google...Â
The router is a Linksys E2500 router. AirPort Card Information:Wireless Card Type:AirPort Wireless Card Locale:USA Wireless Card Firmware Version:9.52 Current Wireless Network: {other network name} Wireless Channel:11 Is there any way to connect to the password protected network?

I just recently got Verizon Fios internet. I am having a problem with making the router they supplied my default router.I am not trying to piggy back or connect additional routers. I just want to use the Fios router.Prior to Fios, I had Time Warner and i used my own router and as soon as I opened up my macbook, it would immediately find that router as my default. Now, with Fios, when i open my "Airport" icon at the top on my screen, it NEVER choses my Fios router as my default, making me change to it every time i want to use my internet after opening up my computer.

It took me a lOOONG time but I finally bit the bullet and bought a macbook. So far so good, I will be giving it a memory upgrade in a few weeks but right now I could use some serious help.
The computer won't connect to my Netgear WGR614 wifi router. I called Apple, they said the airport works and I may need a router firmware update. I updated the Netgear router. I have tried using the WEP, the WPA and also tried with the router set to zero security. The macbook still won't connect. Here is the kicker, my old windows based laptop and my wifes newer netbook picked up the new upgrade without issue.
The macbook (I loaded all the macbook updates with hardwire) will go through the network diagnostics and end up being unable solve the problem.

I have a 15" i5 MBP and I've noticed that on these new machines OSX SL still defaults on 32-bit kernel (I think for third-party drivers compatibility issues)... My question is are there any benchmarks that shows if there are some performance gains forcing SL to boot with a 64-bit kernel? Which of the two kernels do you use?
