I'm not sure this is even possible, but don't know why it wouldn't be because you can stream HD content over the internet using cat5. And a long cat5 cable is a lot cheaper than hdmi cables and extenders.

I know that there's already at least two threads on this, but one seems to be geared towards just one specific converter, and the other is almost 1000 posts long, so what I wanted to do here is to make a thread which is a comprehensive comparison between the available adapters.

I wish to have another display, but not ready to spend $999 over a thunderbolt display from mac. So would like to know if a Mini-diaplay port converter from apple would help me connect a exernal display via the thunderbolt port?

I see that the Gefen DVI to Mini DisplayPort converter is on sale at MacMall for $82. See the link below. I'm wondering if anyone has used this for PC gaming? I've got a good gaming PC. I have a 24" ACD that I use with my MacBook Pro. I'm wondering if using this converter would be good with PC gaming. I understand the thing does active conversion since native is not possible between the two formats. Any chance this thing would slow down the signal and hinder PC gaming performance?

i just bought a mini display port to hdmi adapter, an HDMI to HDMI cable, and an audio cable for my 2008 unibody macbook (Snow Leopard). I've been trying to use my 26" 720p Sanyo [URL] as a monitor to display my computer so I can watch things that I have on my computer. When I plug it into HDMI one like I'm suppose to, it doesn't work- but you see static and it flickers sometimes. Was I only suppose to get mini display port to DVI then DVI to HDMI?
Notes: If i plug it into the second HDMI adaptor( doesn't say DVI) and set it to 720p then i get a fuzzy picture that is displayed correctly (You can see the entire status bar)
I have a 2009 white macbook. I want to connect it to my Samsung LED 6000 series tv. What I have the the apple mini display port to vga adapter. What would be the better choice in regards to picture quality and overall performance?
Also, Im having trouble connecting the Audio. I have 1.8 stereo mini to RCA cables. Would I even need to worry if I go the HDMI route because I read that HDMI carry audio.
I've connected my Macbook to my Samsung TV via HDMI and it works great!
I've been using the TV for it's speakers and screensaver so I'd like to be able to put on iTunes and have my slideshow play on the TV while I have guests over.
It works great, but if I don't touch the macbook for 20 minutes, the signal to the TV cuts out. The Macbook isn't going to sleep, because I've adjusted those settings accordingly. I feel like the TV is stopping the connection for some reason. As soon as I touch my macbook, it resumes playing and everything.
Has anyone heard any news on a mini displayport to HDMI adapter? I know that there have been a couple companies ([URL]) that have promised this adapter by the end of January 2009 but I just got a 22 inch lcd tv for Christmas and want to hook my unibody mbp to it.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI am new here, I have been watching the forum but have not needed to post until now. I have a june 2.8 MBP running snow leopard and I am having problems with Mini DP to HDMI. I have a convertor to go direct to hdmi from mini dp but when I use it to watch movies the color is really dark. It is almost unwatchable.
It is not a hardware thing because when I boot into windows 7 I can watch the same file with the same hardware with no issue with darkness.
I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue in snow leopard. I have searched mroogle as well as good and could not find anything.
I'm looking for a mini-display to hdmi adapter that will handle both video and audio. Does anyone know of one that for sure works?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just ordered a new 15" mbp, and a 24" Dell ultrasharp with display port. I am a bit confused about the cables I need. The Dell monitor arrived with some interesting looking cables that look like they might be displayport - but the mbp looks much smaller (mini). I have searched amazon and apple stores looking for the cable or adapter that I need, but I am not clear. I assume I can get the mini displayport to dvi or HDMI, but that seems silly when my monitor supports displayport ...

Then I attached the other end of the mini display port into the back of my IMac desktop. Nothing is happening. I went online to follow directions which told me to go into my 'System Preferences', then click 'Display' and then click the 'Arrangements' tab that would appear. However no arrangements tab appears. Did I buy the right cord?

I have a new MacBook Pro 17" computer. I want to play a DVD through the computer to a Toshiba 26" flat screen TV, using a mini port to HDMI.
At first nothing happened, then after much fiddling I got the Apple Spiral Galaxy image on the TV and my usual desktop on the computer. I then discovered that I can move the cursor from my desktop across to the right, where it disappears from my computer screen and appears on the left side of the spiral galaxy on the TV. So it's like I have two side-by-side screens, the Apple galaxy on the left, my computer on the right. In addition, I keep my dock on the right side and it's barely visible on the right side of the galaxy screen.
Incidentally if I play the DVD I can drag and drop it to the right so it slides off of my computer and onto the galaxy. But I know that's not the real solution.
