MacBook Pro :: Close Lid Without Sleeping When Connected To TV?
Aug 19, 2009I know you have to download Insomnia to always keep it on, whether you close the lid or not, but I thought that you could close the lid when it's connected to a display (new Toshiba 37" 1080p LCD), it doesn't go to sleep. Where is the setting for this so I can prevent this?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Why Can't Stay Connected To Wifi
May 9, 2012since i upgraded to Lion, my computer cannot stay connected to my wifi network, I'm the only user on the network, my iphone and ipad stay connected, when I had snow leopard it stayed connected, but lion boots me off my network every 2 minutes and it takes 10 min to reconnect when coming out of sleep or screen saver.Â
this is the worst OS apple has ever released and if i could go back to snow leopard I would, but i cannot because of icloud. Â

Jun 3, 2014I just got a referbrished macbook pro retina and I'm having issues connecting to the internet. My old macbook pro, as well as every single other device, is able to connect to the internet without issue. My new macbook, however, isn't able to. Everything is typed in correctly as it is connecting to the router. Just no internet. However, there is one strange difference between my old macbook and my new macbook. The old one has a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 while the new one has 255.255.0.0. The old one also has router information under the subnet mask, while the new one is blank.Â

Mar 6, 2009Most programs in OS X stay open when you close them (when you click the red X button) unless you specifically close them from the dock. I think Safari 3 used to have this functionality but now when I close Safari, it "quits" as in all my open tabs are closed. However Safari stays open.

Oct 13, 2009I would like to know how I can get one single info screen from the files I have selected. For example I have been working on my music files lately and I often want to get information about the size of the selected music files or music folders. But when I select them I don't get one screen telling me how big the selected files all together are, but a screen will open for every single file or folder. So you need to calculate it by yourself in order to get the total sum. Is there a way to avoid this? Then another thing: I can't find a function for closing all the open screens at once. Is there a way how I could close them all at once, because now I need to close them all separately. Like a couple of days ago I accidentally opened something which contains like 100 folders or more even. When I found it out, I couldn't stop it anymore and all the screens started to open. I had to close all the more than 100 screens one by one.

It connects to my home Wi-Fi (the n version of the Apple Airport Base Station) and I get a strong signal but whether I use Firefox or any other web browser or internet based program I get a message that I'm not connected to the internet. I can even select network diagnostics and it walks me through steps where I choose my network, reset my cable modem, base station, etc. and at the end it says it is unable to fix the problem. i have a 2nd MBP that I use on the same network with no issues at all. This issue started showing up about a month ago but did not happen often. Most of the time it happened when I had shut my MBP down since I had to go take it with me to meetings. Often after removing the battery for a minute I could boot up and it would work but now no matter what I do it won't work.

Mac Mini :: Ethernet Does Not Route Unless WiFi Is Connected
Jun 25, 2012I am having the darndest problems with routing on my internal network, specifically with my Mac Mini Server which originally came Snow Leopard Server and was upgraded over the top (no clean metal) wtih Lion and Lion Server (10.7.4) Router is a Cisco/Linksys E4200 with firmware 1.0.04, but have had same problems with 1.0.02 and 1.0.03.Internal LAN/WiFi is defined as 10.0.0.0/255.255.255.0. Router is 10.0.0.1 and gateway. DNS is supposed to be served by the Mac Mini on 10.0.0.7, which also hosts my DHCP server to configure others on my home network.
With WiFi off on the Mac Mini "netstat -rn" returns essentially the same thing as on my Mac Pro (10.7.4 not-server) but for the MacPro at 10.0.0.3. In this condition the Mini will ping the MacPro and I can ssh between, through the ethernet switch on the E4200. The MacPro can ping the E4200 but the Mac Mini can not. The E4200 has some ports opened to forward to the Mac Mini.But, enable WiFi on the Mac Mini and suddenly the ethernet starts working through the E4200.
Sometimes I can change the static IP address on the Mini's ethernet with WiFi off and then it starts speaking to the E4200 and internet. For instance tonight I changed it to 10.0.0.8 and it didn't work. But 10.0.0.6 did. Moved it back to 10.0.0.7 and it still didn't work trough the router but it did work internally Mini to MacPro through the enthernet switch on the E4200.

Jun 4, 2014I downloaded hotspot shield and immediately my internet stopped working. Wifi still connects to every available wifi. Every other device can connect without an issue. I deleted hotspot shield from applications and the problem persists. When i delete then re-add wifi in network settings it temporarily says no ip.

Jun 21, 2012My iPhoto has always worked fine. Now I can't get it to open. Light under it in the dock is illuminated but the app won't open or close. Tried to restart computer but message indicated I had to close iPhoto first. I tried closing everything else and shutting power off, then turning back on. Illuminated iPhoto app on dock remains and I still can't open or close. Is this a common problem? I've never had this happen. I have over 5,000 photos

Sep 28, 2009I have a strange problem with a WiFi slowdown when connected to a TV. Here are the specs of the equipment:
2.2 Ghz white macbook, santa rosa, 4 gb ram, purchased January 2008
Panasonic TV connected via HDMI to DVI cable + Apple Mini DVI to DVI connector
USB Western Digital harddrive connected to a 500 GB Time Capsule (1st edition, no dual channels)
Snow leopard 10.6.1
Before upgrading to snow leopard, I would frequently use the macbook to provide video to the above mentioned TV streamed from a hard drive connected to an imac (connected to the same time capsule). I moved, and upgraded to snow leopard, and haven't tried this until finished setting up my equipment yesterday. I can stream videos to the macbook from this hard drive fine when nothing is connected. However, the moment I plug in the mini-DVI connector, the WiFi drops to a crawl. This applies not only the to air disk but any data from the network (internet, etc.)
A couple of additional notes: Display is set to mirror. Has nothing to do with clamshell mode because the macbook isn't closed. Nothing to do with location/interference- the effect is instantaneous with plugging and unplugging the cable. The base station is actually closer than in my previous setup and is pretty much 20 feet away in direct line of sight. I connect to another external monitor daily at work (vga, again with apple mini dvi to vga adapter)- no issue whatsoever restart did not help. I canceled all time machine backups over the network to limit that as a factor- no effect.

Jul 30, 2010I tried ringing apple but unbeknownst to me my warranty has expired so wanted to see could I fix it before using money that was intended for my new iPhone. Right, so yesterday I used a friends o2 dongle and I was asked did I want to save internet settings, I said yes - not knowing what I was saving (silly silly).
I had to do work at my old college but was unable to connect to wifi. Went to the IT lads and they fixed it - sort of - I could access the Internet but no sites that required a log in eg gmail facebook.
I am now at home and on my iPod typing this as my Mbp won't connect to the Internet! It was connecting to the wifi provider, have full signal but won't load the pages. I know it can't be the wifi as my iPod works fine.
