View 19 Repliesbe more heathier for the mac pro to have longevity if it were on top. I guess if it were on top of a desk, the mac pro would collect less dust + able to breathe alot better for less stress on the logicboard/fan? I'm seriously thinking about putting the mac pro on top of my desk.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have been noticing more MacPros kept on top of desk rather than on the floor. Why is this. I think it's too big to go on a desk, even a big one. Is there something I don't know about. I guess the 'dust bunnies' may be a bit larger on the floor but it's also cooler. Getting to the back is just as much as a pain in both places.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been placing it on top of my desk, which is pretty huge BUT I noticed that including my 17" mbp on the desk and the additional of a second monitor, I need more space! I've been thinking about placing the mac pro underneath my desk, pushed to the far back. I do own a shihtzu that does have the occasional hairball popping out somewhere random and I try to vacuum twice a week. With that information, do you guys think that moving the Mac Pro on the floor on a carpet would attract that much more dust as to the Mac Pro being on top of the desk?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an 11" MacBook Air and I'm loving it! I'm using it with the 24" Apple cinema display and was wondering what some of you are using as a stand. There doesn't seem to be much available to accommodate the smaller size. I'm currently using an mStand that I had from owning my just recently sold MBP. I'm considering a TwelveSouth BookArc, but I'm not sure if it will fit the 11" Air. Can anyone confirm this?
I'm looking for something that's not only aesthetically pleasing, but also something with a smaller footprint that will free up some desk space. Please share your thoughts, ideas, opinions, and solutions!
I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for a computer desk/workstation. I'm willing to spend some $$ on something, and am just wondering if there are any pieces out there that you guys really like. I use a Mac Pro, which I like to keep on the desk. Besides that, I don't have that much hardware -- MFC printer that's pretty big, but that will probably be replaced by something that has a smaller footprint. I'll be putting it in my basement, so size isn't really a huge concern.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I am about to order a 2010 Mac Pro. I am looking for opinions from users who own or have owned any recent model (last 2 years) Mac Pro in terms of how much heat they throw off and how much open air space they need. The reason I ask is my custom desk at home has one of those wooden "compartments" that a tower or workstation computer can slide into. If I put the Mac Pro in there, it will be exposed on the front, but the top and all sides will be surrounded. I am sure you have all seen the type of desk slot I am talking about. Its a bit like putting your mac pro in a coffin. with only one side open. do you think this will be a major problem and cause overheating? Or result in the Mac Pro shutting down? If so do you have any suggestions because my desk area does not have any open room for the computer stand with all open air around it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a desk lamp for the 24" iMac. My Dad uses one for work and his eyesight isn't what it used to be, so I'm looking for something that will sit on top of the iMac and give light to the whole desk.
Unfortunately, a Google search finds only the old classic G4 'desk lamp' iMac, but I'm actually after an iMac desk lamp, if that makes sense.
Function over aesthetics, but preferably nothing too hideous that detracts from the natural beauty of the Mac. Any suggestions would be great
Maybe this is going to sound silly but do I have to worry about this thing being too heavy for my glass-top Office Max desk? It's 30.5 lbs, twice as heavy as the Dell widescreen monitor I currently use. This is my first all-in-one so it's all new to me!
View 15 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if the mighty mouse is smoother to move around on a wooden service then the magic mouse? I have a logitech G5 that i use for PC which glides like a treat, was wondering if the mighty mouse was the same. if so, i think i may need to pick up, sure the multi-touch is nice on the magic mouse but i just don't like the smoothness of it and the way it sounds when im gliding it along due to the rubbery/plastic feet.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFirstly I need a bag for it. I was reading through some posts here today with lots of suggestions on brands of bags. The ones that caught my eye were crumpler bags. Does anyone have any experience of these, are they of a decent quality and if so could you recommend one that would be suitable for the MBP 15"?
Secondly each weekend I will be taking this laptop to my boyfriend's house. We'd really like to play some games together but I need some way of setting it up in his hallway. Does anyone own anything like a fold-away laptop table/desk and know where I could find one? It would need to be smallish, just big enough for me to stand the laptop on and have a mouse plugged in. I'm not really sure such a thing exists and my google searches haven't turned up anything suitable but perhaps I'm searching on the wrong terms. The important bit is being able to fold it away after and stick it in a cupboard somewhere.
Picked up a rev B in-store almost a week ago and I've been noticing a small issue: when the door for the ports is open, the edge that faces the user touches the desktop. I had the superdrive plugged in when I noticed this, and I noticed that there's a mark already; looks like the aluminum has been touching my desk and that's caused the anodizing to rub off.

Seems like pretty good deal, although only 2 reviews it seems to be very good. I heard a lot of good things about Seagate, especially their warranty.
I was leaning towards WD but I've heard a lot of reliabilities issues with their MyBook's actually.
Anyone have this drive? I would go 1.5 TB but I hear current HDD technology isn't up to snuff yet to make another more than 1 TB reliable .. though that could be false.
When you get home at your desk, put your MBP on the table plugging it to an external monitor or not, do you keep it running on WiFi or do you plug in an ethernet cable for your notebook? I am on a 25mbps line in my home and i find that when i plug in the cable my internet connection is more stable, faster and doesn't drop out sometimes. Because, sometimes on Wifi, websites take a little longer to load or it seems to not load at all. While on the ethernet cable everything is just speed of light instant.
I have also noticed that using vmware when i go away from the computer and puts windows to sleep, when i get back, it takes a while for windows to recognize the airport vmware driver and connect back to internet, while with the ethernet cable it is just instant (again). Noticed this while running windows live messenger and the time it takes to connect back. I also noticed that transferring files from my windows vista desktop computer to my macbook was alot faster on ethernet cable than on the wifi connection, even though my router supports 54mbps wifi. So are you guys satisfied with your wifi? Or do you use an ethernet cable for stability? Or am i the only one with minor wifi problems?
I need a large display to do architecture work (via AutoCAD running through Boot Camp) at school. I think my best bet is to get an external display (not the LED Cinema, that's too expensive), as well as the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mighty Mouse. My questions is probably pretty dumb, but...
...once I connect all of the peripherals, do I need to keep my MBP open, or can I close the screen (keeping it on) and stick it on a shelf under my desk?
When my new i7 is on my usual desk (where iMac 24" white stood silently before), it sounds like a dishwasher. Or a plane engine. The low, loud vibrating noise drives me so mad I snap. It penetrates my very brain and makes it vibrate. It's audible from another room. In desperation, I raised my Mac and the sound stopped. I put it on the floor, and the machine is silent. Back on desk - airplane engine sound again. What the heck? My desk has been perfect for all my other computers, what's so special about i7?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have an old Dell CRT I'm using currently with my iBook and I want to know how I can just use the display and close the iBook when at my desk without the computer sleeping. Currently if I try waking the computer with the keyboard or mouse, it wakes up for about five seconds before going back to sleep. Is there any way around this or do i just have to keep the iBook Open?
View 2 Replies View Related I'm in the market for a 100mm VESA Desk/Wall Mount that's suitable for the 30" Apple Cinema Display. I already have the sub-assembly, just missing the actual fixture.
To be completely honest, I've looked at a few but I'm not completely sure what weight capacity I should be looking for. I can tell you one thing, the 30" ACD ain't a light mother, it's actually quite heavy, perhaps it's due to the Alu shell?
I wonder are there many people out there who might be using those? If your using one, either at work or in the home, would you mind posting your model and personal rating?
I have an iMac that is now close to two years that I have been a little unlucky with. Two times the harddrive has crashed and had to be replaced. Last time I managed (learned from experience) to make a TimeMachine back-up. I can see on the external drive that 160gb are in use but I am unable to gain access to the files. The main thing is a lot of pictures that i would really like to recover. It is now about 4 months ago this happened so new pictures have been uploaded in the meantime.

I do not have a mousepad with my magic mouse, because everyone I have tried just doesn't track very well at all. My wood desk seems to be perfect so I have been using that. However after a day of use I have all this black residue junk on my desk that I have to get out the spray cleaner and clean it up, which requires a lot of scrubbing. Has anyone else seen this? It seems like the black rubber pads are rubbing off on my desk....if anyone has had this problem what did you do to fix it? New Magic Mouse?

I purchased a GoFlex Desk for Mac with the FW800 adapter. No issues with stability or performance. The only thing that is weird is related to deletion of files:
1) When I set a program to auto-clean files (for example, deleting source rar files after unpacking) it doesn't work
2) Whenever I try to delete a file, I get a warning that "This cannot be undone", and it's doing a permanent delete rather than moving it to trash.I've verified that I'm not using any Seagate drivers, and the drive shows up as the "Orange" generic external drive.
