OS X :: Finding Automatic Power Management Software?
Aug 31, 2010
Are there any programs for OS X that let you set an automatic power profile when unplugged from the charger?
Is there nothing that automatically sets the screen to a certain brightness, turns bluetooth and wi-fi off etc., and then adjusts it back when plugged in to the charger?

I have found that by plugging in my Apogee Duet firewire audio interface and ONLY WHEN AppleFWAudio was loaded there was a 10c CPU raise that was making my MBP (late 2008) hot!I wanted to monitor the power that was required for Duet to run and to see if the temperature rise was due to that, so:With Apogee drivers uninstalled (just to be sure its not their drivers related, which is notMBP on battery power with System Profiler opened (to monitor the mA required by the computer from System Profiler -> Power)

I'm wondering if there is any good apps out there for managing an entire project, across multiple files, sort of a bulletin board, just a single file, that contains a sort of desktop for that entire project, you could drag things into it, files, pictures, notes of somekind, anyone know of anything like this?

I have an old G4 mirror-door that I use as my PVR. It's stuffed with 4 big drives to record media, but it runs all day and sucks tons of power. Plus, it heats up the cabinet like an oven. Is there a piece of software etc. that can help the mac better manage its power consumption? I don't like using the OS X drive sleep option because the drives always go to sleep just when you need them..

I have a question about the Dual-Proc MacPro's power management:
If you are only running one or two applications, using one or two cores, is the power management smart enough to put one of the processors to sleep, or into a low-power mode?

I'm looking for software on osx to manage my e-books. Since I have so many e-books now, it's starting to be a bit chaotic and I would like to have 1 place to manage them all: epb, pdf, kindle etc...
It's also necessary that it can look for synopsis, cover and extra info in the internet, just like plex for movies.

At my last job, I used a pc program called Docuworks (bundled with our Xerox machine) that allowed you to modify scanned documents (combine pages/documents, highlight passages, add comments, print to PDF, etc.). Is there anything like this available for personal use on a Mac?

I am trying to find an app that will allow me to keep all my video files in a neat library from where I could easily play them instead of having to go to various folders on the HDD. I have a lot of movies and shows I recorded onto my Mac from satellite and have not been able to find a good program to keep them in a library.

I've amassed a relatively large collection of videos (sporting events, concerts, TV shows, etc.)--all in different formats and most of them not iTunes/iPhoto-compatible as is. My question is: is there a nice, clean app that allows me to manage all of my videos (and perhaps tag them with keywords) just like iPhoto does for photos? I know that I could go through and convert all of them, but like I said, I have a large collection, so that'd be more trouble than it's worth.
I've checked out yFlicks, but it appears to not be 10.6-compatible right now.

I work for a theatre company. We want a software package that enables us to manage our production process over distances/online: playwright in one place, director in another, designer somewhere else, etc. These are small project teams, so we don't need anything vast, but the package does need to be able to respond to different project structures and styles and feel intuitive.
I've looked at Things and Project X online, but can't seem to get a definitive view about about how easily (if at all) they enable people to collaborate online (that is not on a local network).

We have about 10 PowerBook G3/400 computers in our school running OS 9.2.2. They haven't been used in a couple of years and now none of them will boot up. No power. I checked Apple's website and found an article called Power Management Unit. It says to hit the reset button, wait 5 seconds and then hit the power button, but it didn't work for any of them. Does anyone have any ideas?

Cannot use the external keyboard's USB sockets anymore for mouse or printer. Warning says not enough power, use computer's plug. But there are none left. Tried to adjust power management.
No betterment. Can't boot from DiskWarrior CD anymore.

I have an external hard drive, but it seems to be either corrupt or malfunctioning in some other way. When I plug it in it works fine for a while, but soon after I get a "Disk was not properly ejected" error.
If I try to unplug and plug the disk in again, Finder won't recognise it until I've rebooted my computer.
I can't be bothered rebooting all the time, so is there a process I could kill instead that would relaunch itself and start off "fresh"?

Graphic/Web Designer seeks elegant, simple, yet robust project management application.
So after months of off/on searching the web (macrumors, iusethis, etc) I've previewed nearly everything remotely related, but what I am looking for just doesn't seem to exist! Here's some background:
I use Billings to track my time, invoices, etc. It's a beautiful program, that *functions* as good as it looks. But it doesn't really "manage" projects.

I have been trying to find a BPM (beats per minute) counter for iTunes, because you can make smart playlists with BPM as a category. I have been trying to find one that does it automatically (no tapping) and if possible, automatically ads it to iTunes, but that's not my first priority.

Sorry to mention the 'W' word, but wondering if anyone has had this issue.
Basically Apple wireless keyboard works perfectly in Windows, but the Bluetooth power management kills it after just a few seconds, which is extremely irritating. It works after you've 'woken it up' again though.
I can't find anywhere to change this, and no joy with a forum search / Google.

At the time it seemed very practical to use a Time Capsule to share files between the members of the company (we are just 4) and this way use it as backup and server.
As we use it as the company file server to share file between member, we found out that it would be needed to make backups every now and then (preferably on monthly basis).
I bought another normal external hard drive, plugged it into the time capsule and made the backup.

picked up an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 for my X1900XT card. Got tired of hearing the stock fan kick up every month or so needed to be vacuumed out as the fins got clogged. Anywho, the cooler is designed to work alone without a fan and is working great, however I would like to install the fan module for the cooler to give it just a bit more cooling power, especially with hot Alabama summers on the horizon. Does anybody have a spare stock X1900XT fan 3 pin power plug available or know of a source of one? My Mac Pro is still under Applecare, so if anything happens and I need to get it back to Apple I need to return the video card to stock form, thus not allowing me to use the plug that is on the stock fan I removed.

I need to pick up a second power adapter for my 13" MacBook Pro to keep in my bag to take with me to work. I don't particularly want to spend the $75ish for an Apple one if I can avoid it. Is there a decent cheaper 3rd party adapter out there that works well?
