Mac Pro :: How To Put Six Internal HDD's

Dec 23, 2008

There are 2 extra Sata ports on the motherboard, so I figure I need to get a Sata-Sata cable, build some sort of tray to fit the drives securely into the lower DVD drive bay, so far so good, no big deal; I understand the extra Sata ports are more easily accessable in the 2008 MP.

But how about power , will I need some extra power supply, or does the Sata cable take care of that ?

I know about the brackets one can get for external eSata drives, and this solution .

Power Mac G5 :: Want To Use Second Internal HD As An Internal Back Up Drive?

Nov 10, 2007

I want to keep my applications etc on one internal HD and use my second internal HD as a back up.I am a graphic designer, and i have been backing up to an external LACIE Porche 160 Gig firewire HD. This has worked fine, but...My second internal HD (112 gig?) is still loaded with 10.3 and has adobe CS2 on it along with some other crap that I no longer need.I have loaded Adobe CS3 on my primary drive and have all the files I need on that one...What is the best way to set up my second HD as a "slave" drive to improve the performance of my G5 dual 2 Ghz??Will there be any issues now that I loaded Leopard on the primary HD?

Power PC G5 Tower 2 Ghz dual processor (2004?) with two internal hard drives

Intel Mac :: How To Transfer All Data From Old Internal Hard Drive To A New Internal Hard Drive?

Feb 10, 2012

How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one? I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.

iPod shuffle, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Mac Pro :: Get Second Card With Internal Usb?

Oct 14, 2010

I got this card for 13 dollars on newegg and I hope I can find a way to get it to work. Obviously I could run a cable to an external usb port but I am trying to get it to work internally. This card has two lights on it which acknowledge it is on and that an express card is in they light up but in windows I am unable to get my express card to mount. I'm sure it has to do with the fact the usb on the inside of the card needs to be plugged into the mobo. PCI Express with Transfer Rate 2.5GB/s Full Duplex Channel Compliant with PCI-Express Revision 1.0a One USB 2.0 port connection needed from the motherboard for fully ExpressCard compatible Fully plug & play I have read the mac pro early 2008 has some satas hidden inside near the fans Are all the mobo usb used? In device managet I'm counting 5 USB Root Hubs, 3 Generic USB Hubs. I'm guessing the generic are the devices I've plugged in and the 5 root hubs are the front two usb and the rear three. So there are none inside that are unoccupied? Do I have any other options like get a 2nd card with internal usb and connect pci to pci?

MacBook :: Using Internal HD?

Jan 5, 2011

My following problem deals with both MAC and PC. I know this is a MAC forum but I posted here a long time ago and recieved great results.

I've been researching my problem for the past two days and I have given up. I dropped my MacBook and it fails to work. I took the internal HD out in hopes of retrieving the content. I currently have the HD hooked up to a windows PC and my PC recognizes this. After researching why I could not view the contents of the MAC drive with current programs that allow me to do so, I found out the drive turned RAW. After over 10+ programs of trying to find a program that will allow me to explore the RAW MAC HD on my PC, I found 1 program, but I had to buy it in order to extract the files, it was a 200 dollar program, something I will not buy.

My question is, is there a better way of extracting the content of my MAC drive on my PC? I understand I'm using a PC and part of my problem pertains to one but that is all I have. Any recommendations on retrieving my content through certain programs would be great. Even programs that will allow me to at least retrieve my pictures.

Mac Pro :: Internal HDD Keeps Un Mounting

Jul 6, 2010

I have a Mac Pro recently purchased that I use for video editing and I have been having a rather serious and very annoying problem. Using Final Cut Pro, I have been rendering a section of video and after a (variable) period of time, my scratch disk (internal SATA - came with the Mac Pro) just unmounts itself, causing FCP to crash out and I lose my render. I can only get the drive to mount again if I restart (or shutdown and start-up again). Is there anyone out there who has knowledge of this problem? I want to ask Apple to look at my machine, but I work at a large institution and the paperwork trail is huge, so it would be a last resort.

Power Mac G5 :: Replacing Internal Hd On G5?

Nov 7, 2007

Just this AM my G5 slowed down in the middle of a job, I restarted and that was it. Dead HD. I call apple care and took it to the apple store where they suggested I buy and install a new HD.

So, I'm thinking I'll buy a Maxtor 300 MG.

The question(s): The instructions on replacing the drive (from apple support) say to make sure and buy an ATA that is 3.9 wide if adding an internal HD but it doesn't say what to buy when replacing.

Do I buy SATA? If so, will it fit (they're 3.5 wide). Do I need to buy anything else? Will my old G5 have any trouble with the new HD?

Power Mac G5 1.6 ghz
Mac OS X (10.3.x)

Desktops :: How To Partition An Internal HD

Jan 2, 2010

I have a new iMac 27" w OSX.6.2, 2.66ghz intel cor 15, w 4 gb RAM and a 1 tb internal HD. I have final cut xpress3.5, live type and sound track loaded onto it, besides the stuff that came with the package.

I have five separate external hard drives. Two of them are hot swap 800 enclosures for which I have 5 hot swap trays. I have about 3 tb external storage all together.

Is there any reason to partition the internal HD? I could get 4 250 gb partitions; or any other configuration. I have never done an HD partition, so I need some guidance about how to do it, if it is a good thing.

My thought is to use an external HD for scratch disc, and use one of the partions for "Time Machine" back ups. I realize that this is sort of silly, since it is still the same internal HD that is doing all of the heavy lifting for program operation. But this thing comes with 1 tb of HD space for some reason. I wonder why, if not to store something besides programs and audio render files.

I read that any 400speed external HD in a system will slow all of the faster drives. So my thought is to use only the hot swap 800 enclosures and hot swap drives with the new iMac, and leave the older 400 speed drives plugged into my iMac G5.

I could put the time machine back ups on one of the hot swap drives, but it would have to be plugged into the new iMac all of the time and I would lose the ability to drag (QT) files from that drive, to the other hot swap drive, or into the browser of FCX.

Could I set time machine to back up only on order? Then I could still use the hot swap enclosure with any one of the hot swappable drives, and use another external drive as a scratch disc and have them daisy chained into the iMac. I could back up at the end of every work session.

OS X :: Restore From TC Onto Two Internal Drives?

Nov 5, 2010

First replace the Optical drive (superdrive is superdead) in my 2007 macbook with a SSD, probably a 128-240GBish, the current internal drive is a 5400rpm 500GB. I want to install the OS and a couple of the main programs I use on the SSD. The main question is what will the the time capsule do when trying to restore to the (smaller GB )SSD if the backup image (currently around 400 GB) is from the 500GB. Is there a better way to go about this? The HDD has about 100GB available. If there is a forum on this let me know.

MacBook Pro :: How To Fix Internal Microphone

Jan 8, 2008

So the other day I booted up into OS X and was going to make a short video in Photo Booth with my friend. I recorded a video, but when I tried to play it back there was no sound. I tried recording another video, this time yelling at the top of my lungs. This time when I played it back, I could hear my yelling very faintly. I decided to open up the System Preferences to see if the microphone was picking up any sound. The input level showed that there was a little bit of static, but the bar barely moved when I yelled. I opened up Skype and called "echo123" to see if Skype was picking up and sound. After the call recorded my sound, it played it back and to my surprise it sounded perfect.

It was like my microphone didn't have a single problem. I then opened up Photo Booth again and the System Preferences to see if it would pick up and sound from my microphone. And once again it would only barely pick up sound when I was yelling. After a few minutes, I finally decided I'd take my MacBook to the Apple Store. But before that, I decided I'd just try a little trick that worked on my iPod earbuds when one of them wasn't working correctly. I flicked my finger against the plastic right next to where the microphone is above the screen. I opened up System Preferences and to my amazement my microphone was now working perfectly!

OS X :: Internal Mic Not Working On MacBook?

Jan 21, 2008

I'm trying to do a video chat through ichat and the other person can't hear me though she can see me just fine. I'm doing this through OS 10.4.9, not XP.

It's not a bandwidth issue because I switched from wifi to a direct connection with my cable modem and the stats say I'm running around 100% on audio.

I tried recording sound on garage band, but it picks up no sound.

In system preferences the sound input is set on "internal microphone/built-in," the Input volume is on max, but the Input level meter does not move at all.

OS X :: Create A Partition On My Internal HDD On 10.4.11?

Nov 19, 2008

I am trying to create a partition on my internal HDD on 10.4.11. I have tried two ways.

Terminal way $ diskutil partitionDisk disk0s3 1 HFS+ rigantaHFS+ 15G

- That returned an error ( i would say plausible) " couldn't unmount disk for zeroing" " couldn't unmount disk (-1000) on disk0"

- i did try the same command line in single user mode but that did yield anything at all. I got the same error message.

Disk Utility (/applications/utilities/diskutility)

- I basically cannot partition my internal HDD without erasing my the entire HDD

- So my question is :"how to create another partition on my HDD, without erasing the entire HDD?"

I am using a PPC with tiger 10.4.11

PS: the reason why I am not using the disk utility on the install DVD is that I have lost them.
