decided to pick one of these up and see what its like ?
could be pretty cool if it works well want to use raid 1 for my boot and going to see how quick it does raid 0

Now (I'm new to a Mac) I need to see if it works.
1) Is there a way to display all of the devices in a GUI such that I can identify the com port? (I did "ls /dev" and I see ttys0, etc (about 20 or so))
2) I need to know which tty the converter belongs to. How do I do that?
3) Once I identify it, how do I set the serial parameters?
Is there any decent software out yet for converting MKV files? I am currently using Handbrake but it's fairly unreliable.

I did a search and tried 2 sites but stopped as they both seemed sketchy. I had a "unvarified securety warning" pop up on my computer from one site. The other one I tried had me prompted to a survey I had to fill out in order to convert the video which ended up being a marketing ploy for phone ringtones that you get charged for. Needless to say, I bailed on both sites.
Are there any real, legit decent Youtube to Mp3 converter sites that offer a decent, safe application or service?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to migrate my Parallels VM to VirtualBox. However, VB doesn't read Parallels VMs. I wanted to use the VMware converter, but the EULA says that it is only for use in migrating VMs for use in VMware software.

I've quickly searched around, and found too many options and no idea about the quality of each. One site has one list of ten "best" free video file converters, while another site has a completey different list of ten "best"!
So, I can't figure out what a good well-known, easy to use one is. I want to be able to convert random different types of video files into DVD-quality files to watch on my DVD player, and I want the quality to be good.
I wonder if anyone can give me the basic steps to setting up a RAID array on a Powermac G4 (I think I mean a Raid 0 ie one extra hard drive).I have looked up a couple of articles but they advise to use the original install disc during the set up process. Unfortunately I don't have the original install disc. I have available one extra internal hard drive and one external hard drive.
I would like to set it up so that there are two internal hard drives with one replicating to the other one.
I want to run a hdmi signal over a long distance and was going to use a cat5 cable but can't find a mini displayport to cat5 converter or a hdmi to cat5 converter. I'm not sure this is even possible, but don't know why it wouldn't be because you can stream HD content over the internet using cat5. And a long cat5 cable is a lot cheaper than hdmi cables and extenders.

View 14 Replies View RelatedGoing to setup a raid using apples utitlity to get a raid 0 of two 640 blacks for my 2008 MP. I have adequate back up, including time machine and two separate back up discs that I keep information on. My macbook pro also has the same information with its own time machine back up.
So I have to wipe my original 640 so the new raid can be created I assume. Should I restore from time machine to put my info back on after creating the raid setup? Is there an easier way, one that doesn't require me copying all my information over?
Can anyone comment on the Highpoint RAID controller Apple is selling?

I'm mostly looking for bulk (non-redundant) storage using an eSATA port multiplied enclosure. Nothing too fancy required. Are there any cheaper basic eSATA multi-link options available? (2006 MP) My biggest concern is good driver support. I see some SI/Sonnet cards that have questionable driver support especially with Snow Leopard.
could anyone please provide more information about the RAID controller? Could I continue to use my Adaptec 5805 when switching from a PC to a Mac Pro?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently noticed some strange behavior in my dock - occasionally, after doing something related to system startup (startup, wake from sleep, etc.) I'll notice the dock starts to shuffle/slide around like a new program is opening itself up - except nothing ever does. It seems like whatever is trying to open quits itself before the icon can appear on the right end of my permanent dock icons.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone knew of a dock theme or hack that I could install relatively painlessly on 10.6.4 that makes the Dock, when placed at the bottom, look like it does when placed on either side of the screen. I've been looking all over the place but all I've found are themes for Candybar and co. that make the reflective bottom area some weird different color or texture. I would like to see a theme that makes the Dock more 2D-ish and at least similar to what you see on the sides of the screen when placed there.
