OS X :: Errors In Filesystem Continually Appearing?
Sep 16, 2010I recently bought a hard disk drive for my macbook - specifically an internal, 500GB disk with 32 MB cach�. I installed OSX without any problems, but lately I've noticed some programs start doing funky things (Finder getting stuck frequently for no reason, once even the settings panel got stuck, svn weird behaviour complaining a file is both non-existant, locked and not versioned, etc.). Just out of curiosity I tried checking the disk with the disk utility and it found filesystem errors.
I heard some rumours a few years ago that disks with big cach�s required a bit more time before shutdown to committ everything to actual disk.
These errors and funky behaviour *seem* to appear when I reboot so I'm suspecting the rumours might be true. What do you think? Anyone out there with a big cach� HDD? should I try exchanging it for one with a smaller cach� or is there any setting I can access for this case? Or maybe is it simply defective?
OS X :: Applications Continually Crashing / Is It Because Of Compatibility
Oct 3, 2009i've had my macbook for about a year but ever since the most recent osx combined update, applications on my macbook crash continually. Safari maybe once every 5 minutes, Firefox less so. The more demanding the program, the more frequent the crashes become. Mac os itself actually crashes fairly often too.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8. I upgraded both my ram and hard drive personally when I got my laptop, but i've never had problems before the update and both sets of hardware were compatible. (i forget the technical spec).
OS X :: Disc Image Continually Mounting?
Jan 13, 2010I recently downloaded Transmission, and whenever I open the program, the disc image mounts on the desktop. I can't eject it until I quit the program, and then it always pops back up when I reopen the program.

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Safari Continually Shuts Down On IMac?
Feb 22, 2012Cannot keep Safari open at all. When it crashes it asks me to submit problem report to Apple, which I do, and I then get a message saying the problem report cannot be sent, try again later -- which I have done over and over again without success. We can only go on the web now via Google Chrome but we prefer Safari as our standard browser.

May 7, 2012If the mail application is close, iCloud mail goes offline, although my other email accounts in the mail app do NOT go offline. When I open the mail app, there is a symbol next to the iCloud account (but not next to the others) that looks like a circle with a horizontal zig-zag. When I click on that symbol I get the following message: "This account (iCloud) appears to be offline due to a network problem." If I click the button in the dialogue box that says, "Take all accounts online,", then my iCloud mail comes in right away. However, all my other mail accounts already are delivered. It is not a network or connection problem.

MacBook Air :: Why Have To Continually Reset PRAM To Boot
Dec 2, 2014Recently my MacBook Air has failed to wake from sleep mode. The Apple illuminates on the back of the screen casing, but neither the screen nor hard drive actually wakes up. The only way I'm able to use the computer is by forcing a PRAM reset on restart (command-option-P-R). I've had to do this several times in the last two weeks. Â
The only things about my MacBook Air that have changed in that time period are:Â
- I installed OS Yosemite
- I installed and ran Sophos Anti-VirusÂ
(The latter was installed to counteract a problem that I was having with my email address having been spoofed and sending spam. Sophos found two bits of malware in email data files and "cleaned" them up.) Â

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Continually Duplicating EMLX Files In User Mailboxes
Feb 22, 2012I was trying to discover what was eating up all my disc space on my 11 inch MBA. After doing some research I discovered over 30GB was being eaten up by a particular type of file in "/users/username/library/mail/V2/mailboxes/recovered messages/89AF938B-6B1D-44AC-9E37-158CF278B361/DATA/3/messages". I found 288 ".emlx" files, all duplicates of one another, each is 112MB big. And they continually copy themselves.
Looking at the dates, the first file in the folder was created 12/02/2012 and the most recent file in the folder was created roughly 15 minutes ago on todays date of 23/02/2012. In fact while inspecting the folder, I saw before my eyes them being duplicated. Because I had one of the files highlighted, then began to use safari for a few minutes, and when I came back, there were more of the things underneath the one which I had highlighted!
The files are email files, and they are all copies of a particular email I sent using iPhoto. I sent an album of about 25 or so photos through the iPhoto sharing feature. So is iPhoto or Mail backing up this email over and over again for some reason? They seem to copy themselves only when both iPhoto and Mail applications are open at the same time. I know this because I have experimented with it and can see more and more being created.

May 15, 2012In trying to send an oversized video via email (exceeded 25 MG) size limit, I got an error message. I thought I deleted the email. However, whenever email is open, the message continually gets recovered, blocking any email from being recieved. I am able to create and send emails. Internet checks out ok. Using AOL.iMap. It seems that I am not able to interrupt the continual attempts to send the original email.

Apr 8, 2012when I try to update my billing information the software adds additional digits to my zip code. This is all fine and dandy, it matches to where I live. But my bank only uses the standard five digits and when it adds the additional digits they will not match up correctly despite the first five being matched. This causes an endless and stupidly frustrating cycle that I cannot solve. I tried to find a phone number to call and sort this out but of course that doesn't exist.

If I were to purchase Snow Leopard and install it on the Macbook, would I then be able to use the copy of Leopard that came with the Macbook on the iMac? I am not trying to use 2 copies of the same thing on different machines, I just want to put a new os on one machine and move the existing one to another.I am reluctant to purchase the Mac Box Set version of Snow Leopard for the iMac because I do not want or need iLife and iWork.

Mar 5, 2012I've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen. Â
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc driveÂ

MacBook Pro :: Running Extremely Slowly And Fan Continuously Running Loudly?
Jun 4, 2014My Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

Mar 15, 2012My Mac feels as if it is running slower these last couple of months. I have thought of pursuing a commercially available "clean up" product, but thought I would try the community first and also for pointers using the Mac's own internal diagnostics or system improvement capabilities. Any and all advice is most welcome. I have a 250GB hard drive that is half full, I always update to latest revisions and have an extra high-speed internet connection. Computer is not heavily loaded with apps and typically using Firefox for browsing. (MS Office for Mac as well, but usually limited to one program such as MS Word or Excel at a time.) No heavy graphics utilization. Videos from the internet load slowly and some are choppy. Even scrolling just doesn't seem "brisk".

Jan 6, 2011Since I updated to 10.6.6 earlier today I've noticed that the fan in my MBA (13" late-2010 model) is running constantly. This is rare -- I hardly ever hear it. I opened activity monitor and 'System' is using 45% CPU time, and it's pretty constant.
I have absolutely no clue why -- there's nothing in console to suggest it's doing some task, and I can't see any other hints. Apart from the noise and the heat (though don't get me wrong -- compared to my old MBP it's not really noisy or hot, but I liked it better when it was totally quiet and cold), it's also killing the battery -- 25% has gone in less than an hour.

Oct 12, 2010I am running into issues with trying to run three LED monitors,two 24's and the new 27" apple LED's.As of right now I have both of them running off my GTX-285 and things are great.I of course had to third part the deal,good old Atlona and dial that in.For me to run another monitor,I have to install another card.I was very close to getting the 5870,I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere.Now I hear the 5870 has issues as well,so I am thinking about running two GTX-285's in my MacPro,I don't know if it can be done.I am not sure if there is another power input for the second card.If anyone has any info if this will work,or it won't work,or which card to get.I was thinking about getting two 5870's and running those and then I should be all set.
