Seems that the new Mac Pro doesn't have SLI as was speculated. Personally, I think that what Apple released is very disappointing! Will 2 4870 in Crossfire work on my O8 Mac Pro? Oh and another question how many 6-pin power connectors does the new Mac Pro have?

I have macbook pro And my mail has stopped working now. It worked fine a week ago . It doesn't check for new mails , even when I click on get new mail , there is no new mail. I tried to sign out and sign in again but that didn't work . I read few articles on the internet but they all said use the Mac OS X DVD and reinstall but I didn't get any DVD , all I got with my computer was a Manual.

I am using a 15" MacBook Pro Santa Rosa (mid 2007), 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 6 GB memory, with a 240GB OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD (15 months old). Lion 10.7.3. Computer doesn't boot into Safe Mode AND also if it "goes to sleep by itself" (I don't touch it for a while, then it falls asleep) after some time when I try to wake it up I get the Spinning Ball of Death or a black screen and the only thing I can do is press the power button for some seconds to power off. It wakes up OK if I, either close the lid or Apple icon-> Sleep.
WHEN TRY TO BOOT INTO SAFE MODE: Immediately after the startup chime I press the Shift key, after 2-3 seconds get the login window, key in my password. Instead of logging in, it goes to a screen with the Apple icon, underneath it, the Apple spinning gear and underneath that a loading bar. After quite some time the loading bar disappears, the gear goes on spinning for a LONG time, then black screen, startup chime again and login window. Then, when I key in my password, it just logs in as usual, no safe mode.
I tried to write in Terminal “sudo nvram boot-args="-x"”, BIG mistake! It got my computer into a loop of those screens. I don’t exactly remember what eventually got me out of this loop (I think I booted from a clone, then started with the Lion CD and wrote back “sudo nvram boot-args=""” in Terminal. Also set up an additional administrator account but all was the same. Tried verify/repair disk, everything OK. Eventually I erased completely the HD (not Recovery HD) reinstalled Tiger, Snow Leopard and Lion again, downloaded all applications/software/programs I had, from scratch and only copied the data from a backup, being sure that after that all problems will be over, but... everything like it was, no "normal sleeping" and no SM booting.

I experience this problem for 2 days now. The wi fi says it is connected and all the bars are full but id doesn't load a single page!
The internet i've got is vergin so normally is very fast.Downstairs where we have a desktop computer connected to the D-link is working as normal.
When I open the network diagnostics in mac it shows : wi fi is green , wi-fi settings is green, network settings is failed(red), ISP failed(red), Internet failed (red), server failed red.

I recently had the Logic Board replaced in my 15 in Macbook Pro. All of my software works great except for Logic Pro 8. It is requiring that input my Serial Number. However, I upgraded from Logic Pro 7 and only have the USB dongle. When I plug in the dongle, it doesn't allow me use the software.

I have a MB Pro 15'' that's almost 4 years old (=it's the previous model).
I bought a Snow Leopard CD to upgrade from 10.5.8 a few days ago. I tried it on Thursday and the driver wouldn't accept it, it would try a bit to run but then it would get spitted out. I assumed it is because of the scratches the CD had. So I bought another one. And I am having the exact same problem: Although the CD is in perfect conditions, it just won't run. This time the driver tries a bit harder (I can tell by the sounds) but in the end it just won't get accepted.
I have a home built P.C. that I run ubuntu on. It's a really kickass machine and contains everything I need, it runs the first intel quad core processor. My delimma(not really, just a hard choice) is that I can't decide on MBA or and MBP. If I get an MBP I can just keep running my PC as is. But if I get a MBA(which is all I really need) don't I need mac os x to use the features of my computer, like the disc drive and such to run on a MBA. Does the MBA run with Windows? Certainly it doesnt run with Linux?

View 4 Replies View RelatedA while ago, I got hold of an old Power Mac G4 (450MHz, 128MB RAM, OS X10.3) which I haven't dug out until now. As it contains the old owner's data, I thought the best thing to do would be to do a clean install of Tiger. I bought a Tiger DVD set and upgraded the RAM to 1GB but the DVD won't boot. The DVD is mounted in OS X and I can access the launch screen which has a button to restart and upon restarting, OS X just boots again.
I have tried pushing C and Alt (I have a Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard as the Apple one has been misplaced - Could this be the problem?) but nothing appears on the the display for a while, then OS X boots. I have also tried setting the Startup Disk to the Install DVD which doesn't work either. I was also thinking it could be the DVD-ROM drive as the button to eject is in the center whereas the drive's eject button is on the right (so I am guessing it isn't an original part)
When booting, after Login, finder is continously starting and quitting, never showing any desktop icons or sth. like that.
Issue appeared after installing new Safari Update. -> deleted hdd, overwritten with nulls -> recovered with time machine backup (i had serveral some small other issues, and thought it would be a good idea) (Tried two different backups, one even 2 months old, when this issue surely doesn't came up, but had the same problem) repaired permissions, repaired hdd without problems from leo dvd.
So over this weekend I upped the ram in my Macbook from the stock 2gbs-4gbs. Everything seems to be fine but now what's happening is when I close my Macbook lid and put it to sleep it won't wake up when I open it later. It seems like it wakes up as the light at the bottom goes out but there is no response from the keyboard or display. If I hold down the power button for 5 seconds then the Mac shuts off and I can boot it up as normal. I checked over the reporting screen when it reboots and it seem to be indicating a kernel panic occurred. The memory seems to be recognized and working but it wouldn't explain why my mac suddenly is freaking out. I've tried the SMC reset and now I'm going to try the PRAM reset. I figured I'd check here if anyone has any ideas. The type of Macbook I have is a 2.4ghz Alum. The memory is from MacSales.com OWC 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 1066MHz DIMM Upgrade Kit This appears to be a house memory but i've had great luck from them before with this same brand.

Sometimes my external HD doesn't appear on my desktop (connected with Firewire).It spins up, and all I generally have to do is turn it off and turn it back on again for it to appear.But obviously I wish it would just work the first time.Using 10.6.1 on a Mac Pro, external drive is OWC Mercury.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have set in my Energy Saver Prefs to have my display turn off in two minutes and have the computer never turn off while plugged in. I am running MBP with NVidia GeForce 9600M (I have the option to go to "Better Battery Life" and switch it to 9400 if I so choose.)
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Can somebody try to replicate it and tell me if it's just me? This happened when I installed 10.6.3, .2 was fine.
I wonder if you can suggest something? My MBP currently doesn't recognise the printer I have (HP OfficeJet 6210, which has worked before with this computer). In fact the list of printer models under "add printer" is now empty. So it doesn't detect any printer and I can't suggest any printer for it to detect. I tried reinstalling the "printers" part of Snow Leopard but it didn't change anything. What would be the best thing to do?

So I clicked the volume up button, and it doesn't change the level (there's a small "no" sign, the circle with the line through it, under where the volume level should be). In the menu bar, the volume control is now a light grey and I can't use it. Same with in system preferences. Any ideas on how to get volume to start working again or why it stopped?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes after I logoff, I'll close the lid on my MBP. I always wait until I'm fully logged off before I do this. Later when I want to use my computer I open the lid, the keyboard backlight comes on, but I get no picture on the screen. If I take the machine into my office and connect it to my external monitor, I get no picture there either. The only way to get my computer back is to hold down the power button until it turns off and then turn it back on. Has anyone seen this issue? If so, do you know of a solution? I don't think it's been doing this since I bought it. It seems like it's been worse since the latest OS X patch, but I could be mistaken.

I'm the proud owner of a wonderful and powerful Mac Pro 4,1 (2009) which I have "modded" to support a 6-core Intel XEON processor. (Just using the "official" MacPro5,1 firmware). No problems at all with that.I installed the processor using the finest thermal paste, trying to spread it very evenly and not too thick or too thin, and then refitting the sink appropriately by tighting each single screw by just a slight turn and then the one across, and so on.Now I'm unsure if the thermal paste works perfectly or not. My temperatures, under very intense and heavy load with multiple applications (prima95, memtest, etc) it reached the low 70's by winding up the fans. But suddenly, a few minutes later, it the fans slowed down and the temp raised to mid 90s. so I turned it off...Now using an enconding application, like handbrake, I do get values of high 70's to low 80's but the fan remains (too) slow (in my opinion)Is this normal? Am I just too cautious? Why doesn't the fan rev up higher to remain in the low 70's like it did before?
