Mac Pro :: Won't Work With Display 2008 W / Radeon 2600
Jul 10, 2009
I have been having an issue with my display lately and think it might be because of my graphics card. The display shows a "tail" of whatever is on the screen. So if you are looking at an edge of a window, that window edge will trail off to the side, creating a sort of ghost image. So I tried disconnecting the monitor and I plugged it into the other slot. That seemed to fix the the "Tail" temporarily. But, it made certain portions of the screen blurry. There are literally blurry patches. So I tried switching the connection again, and it just moved the blurriness.
Also, this is my second ATI Radeon HD 2600! Could it be a graphics card issue and if so, should I switch to the Nvidia option?
I have a 2008 Mac Pro with ATI Radeon 2600XT and a 30" Cinema Display. I am considering buying a Wacom Contiq 24 HD screen/tablet and would like to know if the Radeon 2600 will drive both or will I need a second graphics card? If so, do I buy another 2600 or can someone suggest something suitable?
Info: Mac Pro (Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.7.4), 30" Cinema Display, 10Gb RAM, 2 Tb
I just received my new Mac Pro on Friday - it shipped with 10.5.4 installed. After looking at some of the new features of Leopard (had only used Tiger previously), I installed all the available updates -- these were:
Mac OS X Update 10.5.5 Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 Java For Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2 iTunes 8.0 Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.2 QuickTime 7.5.5 Remote Desktop Client Update 3.2.2 Front Row Update
All the updates were successful and no issues were apparent until Sunday afternoon. The fan on the graphics card (ATI Radeon 2600 XT) now seems to be running at full speed, regardless of what is running. Just idling at the Desktop the fan still runs at full speed. A reset of the SMC has been done and a diagnostic as been run (no problems found). Is anybody else experiencing this? If it helps anyone, I've also posted my temps below:

Also, I did some reading and it seems that this issue has happened to others after they appllied the 2600 XT update from Apple. The update put their firmware at version .252. This is the version that is already installed on my card.
What I don't understand is that why for two days the fan never ran at full speed. It just suddenly started happening Sunday afternoon while I was burning some data to a DVD - the fan hasn't slowed down since.
I have been having this reoccurring issue on just one of my screens. My right screen/main screen on my Mac Pro 2.8GHz seems to go dark on me, only in a few programs though. Safari and Lightroom mainly as those are the ones I use mostly on that screen.
It seems to happen once in a while, when it has been running a good bit which is why I thought it was the video card, too hot or something.
I have a 2008 Model Mac Pro with the original HD 5770 Gfx Card as well as a new HD 2600 XT to connect a total of 4 screens without issues. But the HD 2600 XT actually has 3 outputs (2 Mini-DVI and a DVI), but when plugging 3 screens, 1 will always go blank. Is there a way to connect the 3 screens at the same time to that card?
I have an early 2008 Mac Pro 2.8 that came with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT video card. I'm thinking about upgrading this to something with 512 MBs of VRAM. What GPU for the Mac Pro is a good value right now?
I wish to get a more powerful graphics card for my 2008 24" iMac. My card is an ATI Radeon 2600 XT. It is supposedly (according to photos and YouTube videos) a small square chip board, screwed to the underside of the logic board, with a large cooling assembly (fan box with long copper tubing going to the square chip board) which also is screwed onto the GC board, the cooling system being removeable. The chip board is small and surely must carry a 'type' name, as like PCS, etc, but I havent found a name. Could it be CDB? At any rate, I need a modern card that can run the newest OpenGL systems. Does anyone make a card that will fit and replace the 2600 XT? How does one search for a retro fit upgrade card? Â

Where I can find driver updates for my ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT? How can I check to see what driver version I have? I am running 10.6.8. 2x2.8 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon.
for some reason ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics with 256MB card doesnt support 1920x1200 under windows vista via bootcamp and only picks up the dvi on one of the 2 dvi.
I've been digging up info and found a few sundry scraps, but any insightful personal experiences would be HIGHLY welcome. I'm getting an 8800GT upgrade for my Mac Pro. Since I'm considering driving more than 2 monitors, I'm considering adding it to the existing HD 2600 XT, instead of replacing the previous graphics card.
Any caveats I need to be aware of? Can I simply install the 8800GT on the 2nd-bottom slot above the HD 2600 XT? (It'll take up 2 slots, right?) Will this perform alright under Mac OS X and Windows Vista? Any power issues I should be aware of... or is it better to avoid the hassle and remove the HD 2600 XT, replacing it with the 8800GT?
I purchased my Mac a few weeks ago, wanting to both upgrade my computer.......and play Diablo 3. I do always want the best out of my systems and the person who sold me the mac told me it would be fairly easy to upgrade the card...well he was wrong. He also told me a few days later not to worry about upgrading since the system is already great.
I went to a local Mac store and asked about the upgrade and found out it would be close to or above a grand for the part from Apple and the labor.
Are there any other ways to find this part online cheaper and just hopefully pay for the labor?
I just really dont want to pay a grand just to upgrade my damn video card, and I know within the new year Apple will release a much better fast computer and I'll be mad. I really wish it wasn't such a hard upgrade.
So I have an Early 2009 Octocore 2.93 and I have a flashed ATI Radeo HD 4870 video card that is supposed to work on a PC but its flashed so it works on a mac. I know its not officially supported but the issue im running into is that the operating system cannot recognize the full resolution the HP LP3065 30 inch display is capable of. The display can run up to 2560x1600 on any other system but not with my ten thousand dollar machine. The windows side can display at the full resolution but Snow Leopard can only run 1280x800 and it makes the OS look like a pile of dog **** on sunday.
Anyone else run into this issue?
Heres the link btw to where this guy shows how to flash the card.
I have a few question for people who have upgraded to the ATI 5770 form the 8800GT.
It looks looks the install is pretty straight forward. But what type of performance upgrade can I expect? I use manly Photoshop, Lightroom and X-plane. Are there any hidden got-you's?
I have a 2009 - Mac Pro 8 Core with a 4870 Video Card. I know this card uses both the six pin power plugs. I want to add a ATi 2600 Xt card to be able to drive a third monitor and Wacom Cintiq tablet.
Will there be any problems doing this? Does the 2600 just plug into the PCI slot and fire right up? Do I have to adjust the card from 16 to 8?
I recently just purchased one of the early 2008 Mac Pro Desktops, model number MA970LL/A and am trying to upgrade the video card in it. It comes standard with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 xt, and I would like to upgrade to an ATI Radeon HD 4870. I don't know that it will work though, I know that the NVIDEA that comes standard in the early 2009 Mac Pro does not work in the early 2008 Model. Does anyone have any information on this or know if that will work?
I'm using OS 10.4.11 on a first gen mac pro. Would I have to upgrade my OS or will this card work on it. If the card is not compatible with my OS what cards would be besides the ATI Radeon x1900.
I have a G5 dual (PowerMac7,2) with a Radeon 9600 pro card running an HD cinema display (clear plastic) and want to connect a second smaller 20" Cinema Display with the same type of plug - I think I need a DVI to ADC adapter - is this the case?
The ridiculously long thread title pretty much says it all. Is it possible to buy one of Apple's ATI Radeon 4870 cards with the mini-display port connection, install them in a PC, and then use the LED Cinema Display with a PC?
I got my wife the new iMac with a Radeon 4850 to replace her ancient PC (and I meant ANCIENT) and she had massive issues with lockups due to overheating, especially when playing fullscreen 3D games like World of Warcraft in Mac OSX or any of her Windows XP games in bootcamp.
After the EFI Firmware Update 1.4 she's had far less issues, but she's still had 1 lockup (playing Diablo 2 stangly enough, a very old low detail game) and graphical glitches in WoW which caused her to stop playing out of fear of a lockup before it could happen.
Her computer temps are still extremely high but our house temp is only 72degrees.
I have the stock video card from my g4 mdd 1.42ghz
its 64mb agp ati radeon 9000 1 dvi 1 adc
what i know: the 1 dvi can push relatively big monitors. to make dual display work i need a adc to dvi converter. what I dont know. can this card drive 2 19" monitor maxed out ? (1400x900)?
I have a 2008 black macbook with 10.7.2 installed (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM). When I press caps lock, no green light turns on and letters remain in non-capital form. Even when I hold Caps lock for a few seconds, nothing happens. If I physically connect an apple keyboard via usb to my computer, caps lock doesn't work.Â
I want to buy the 27" iMac - but only if I can use it as external monitor for my Lenovo laptop when working from home. A the Apple store in London they said that this is possible with a Belkin converter from hdmi to mini display port (with a USB power caple to turn it into an active signal). The laptop also has a displayport.
my screen started to become erratic and freak out. It would last for a while. I finally figured out that if I shifted the screen, the display would display normally. What happens to the screen is that it goes white with a whole bunch of skinny black horizontal lines going across the screen all the way up and down the screen. You can make out some enlarged words and parts of the windows that were opened when the screen was normal. I can sometimes replicate the display error by pressing and slightly bending the screen holding. What's going on?
I open it and it says that the document cointains Word 2007 for Windows equations, which is not supported by Word 2008 for Mac.
I have never had this problem before, and I have downloaded a lot of these documents, containing equations from Equation Editor.
Is there any way I can make it accept them? I am pretty sure there isn't a 2007 edition of Word, and it sounds crazy that a Word document contains something that Word for Mac can't read.
My macbook display is just too small for watching movies at my girl's pad, so I was wondering if I can connect the macbook to her Toshiba TV (non-flat pannel/HD)? What adaptor or connector do I need?
