View 6 RepliesCan anyone recommend a brand/type of super-adhesive metal-to-metal double-stick tape?
I have a very slight warp to the bottom pan of my MBP. So slight as to be unnoticeable save for one rather obvious result: the part that goes over the top of the optical drive slot has come un-glued/fastened/riveted to the frame behind.
I want to secure it back against the frame and tape seems the best option. The pressure on the flange (part over the slot) is not great - it can easily be pressed in and will hold for a second or two - but will not hold with just regular double stick.
iMac OS 10.4 - was working with dial up modem but wanted to plug into my network for high speed internet access - after plugging in RJ45 cable, the network was not accessed but the computer continued to go the dial up route. When attempting to change network preferences a flap keeps appearing saying the preferences have been changed by another application - this flap appears over and over and will not allow preferences to be changed. Dial up still works by clicking on the phone icon at the top of the screen. Any way to reset this without reinstalling the system?

I work on a Mac Pro, and have recently been getting close to the Hard Drives capacity, so after backing up files, I freed up around 5Gb of space, only to notice this decrease in size as the day goes along. I currently have 2.96Gb free. I've not downloaded any files or applications that would use up this amount of space. We store all our work on a central server, which is also close to capacity, having just 1Gb left from the 370Gb available. Just wondered what might be using up the hard drive space I have available, whether it's anything to do with the server we're connected to, and if there's any way of recovering the used space?

I have developed a nasty case of contact dermatitis on my hands, and I think it's triggered by a mild metal allergy to my MBP.
Anybody know where I might find some kind of a cover for the palm rests etc? I'm using an external mouse / keyboard at the moment.
It's hard trying to track down the cause of the allergy but most of my time is spent on the laptop so...
So many users on here complain about the Aqua interface and want Marble. Now I never got to use anything prior to Leopard, this perhaps could explain why, apart from a quick go on my teachers iMac which had Tiger. I for one love the Aqua interface as well as the old Pinstripes used in earlier versions of Mac OS X, I have a thing for stripes as well as pre-leopard OS X.
Now what I want is an update from users on GUI applications out there, all the older threads will be out of date now. So let me know what's going on with them. Does anyone know where the files for GUI are kept in Snow Leopard or Leopard, I'm wondering if you can almost do a transplant of the files from Tiger into Snow Leopard? If there is also anyone who can make a Pinstripe theme for the dock to be used in DockDoctor could you post the files? I've added a screenshot from 10.0 to just remind anyone of the style.
I've also added a poll to get some real data on how MacRumors feels about Aqua.
I would like to skin my software with a brushed aluminum look.
Is this an option with OSX?
Plugin etc....
Has anyone experienced the disturbing dark blemishing/staining/erosion that showed up in several aluminum PowerBook models.like in the handrest area?
I am curious because I have a small little spot that said area and cannot get it clean. While it may be a little dink, I may invest in some kind of protector if word is that others are seeing any blemishes.
has anyone had tiny cracks in the metal of the unibodies? I have a macbook pro with an invisible shield on it and I have noticed what looks to be a tiny crack about a cm in length. When I rub back and forth on the invisible shield it goes away as is the chemical used to hold on the shield fills it in?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there any way that I can change the skin of Finder from the brushed metal to something similar of Firefox/Mail.app? I have tried using Uno and that gave the perfect result, but it also changed my other apps too. Changing the Uno settings to 'Default Aqua' for all except finder failed also, as it still changed Firefox.
So does anyone know how to get rid of the horrible metal texture of Finder and replace it with something a little more consistent, and without changing any other apps (except other metal textured ones)?
I read that this liquid metal is very light weight and still strong at the same time.
But wondered how it looks.. Is it glossy like stainless steel or brushed as the aluminium used on iPad and MacBook Pros? How dark is it?
There has been alot talking about a Carbon Fibre MBA, as it would take some of the weight - could this be it in stead?
When I tilt my 27" cinema display, it sounds like metal rubbing on metal.

1) Is it really necessary to take this precaution?
2) Where can i find bare, unpainted metal to clip it to?
Ive been looking around, and found "MacBooks" that are metal unibodys, but have the spec of the MacBook "pro"s.
While waiting or time machine to sort itself out, i decided to load up the chess game. For some reason, there is no GUI or anything and the window has only got minimize and maximize buttons. I can't seem to close it at all? Also it seems to have opened this speech recognition thing, there is no menu for this either to close it down.
View 1 Replies View Relatedso this has been bugging me ever since I made the switch. No this isn't a complaint about how the red X does not work like in Windows in closing an application. This is about hitting the red X to close the window which is what it's supposed to do, but then having the window go minimize in the dock instead of closing. Sometimes it takes two hits of the button after being minimized to finally close it.
This doesn't always happen but when it does it is annoying as hell. am I the only one experiencing this issue? Or is it purposely made that way?
i find when i hit the red close button, it doesnt really close, it just seems to hide it. i still get the dot on the dock. i have to go to the menu and choose quit.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there is a setting to change so when I close a program it doesn't still run on the dock. For example: If I open Numbers from the dock and then close it (by clicking the 'x' in the top left corner of the gui window), it will still be running in the background. The only way for me to close it (even after I've 'x'ed out of the window) is to right click on the Numbers icon and click on 'quit'. Since I have Numbers in the dock, visually I cannot tell that it is still running and using memory. This is fairly annoying, b/c it is easy to have many of these idle processes running in the background eating up memory and I find myself periodically having to go through my dock to see which processes are still running unbeknownst to me.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI don't know if any of you have this problem, but often when I try to close an app, and I click the red button in the upper left corner of the screen, i somehow click the minimize button, causing the screen to go into the lower right corner of my screen (dock is on the right side) Is there any way to move the three buttons further away from each other or something else, like increasing sensitivity, whatever? Because it's annoying as hell. This is one of my only problems with leopard, that I keep hitting the yellow button.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMost programs in OS X stay open when you close them (when you click the red X button) unless you specifically close them from the dock. I think Safari 3 used to have this functionality but now when I close Safari, it "quits" as in all my open tabs are closed. However Safari stays open.
