I need to get at the hard drive in a dead 2002 iMac G4 (the "dome" type). Can anyone point me to a disassembly guide anywhere online? I've taken the bottom plate off, but if there's an easy trick to separating the monitor from the base before you do that, I'd like to know

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two drives in my Quicksilver 2002 G4, one is a 250GB which can be fully used, the other an 80GB. Can U rid both of these drives and install two SATA 1.5TB drives? I do not want to use the PCI slots for a SCSI card and wire additional drives that way, because the transfer speed will be limited to 40mbps I believe. I have a Sonnet card a dual PPC 1,8Ghz card, a PCI USB 2.0 card and have other open PCI slots, but finally ran out of storage, and have a use for this machine to hold a LOT more. Other than the transfer speeds possible on SATA, are there any other differences between the original IDE (ATA) drives? Do they connect the same way?
View 9 Replies View Relatedbought old 12-in. ibook A1005/2002 (I assume G3) at yard sale today. screen is black, but hard drive mounts in target disk mode on my eMac, working well! how can i get system info for the ibook in target disk mode? all i see is the it's running 10.4.11, hard drive size and used/free space. i'd like to know RAM, CPU speed, etc. secondly, what could be wrong? boots up with chime, no fan/other noise, stays on and keyboard lights work, but screen is black.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy PowerBook G4 (specs in the bottom, except 250 GB drive) HDD is failing. It is the standard 80 GB one that came with the notebook. I have a 250 GB WD scorpio ready to go in, but I have a couple of questions. First of all, if I use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my existing disc to the new WD scorpio by using a PATA drive enclosure (USB 2.0), will it boot once put in the notebook? Does it need to be a firewire enclosure to be able to boot? Second, what is the average life of the original Hitachi drives (80 GB) that were put in this model of PowerBook. This is the 1.33 GHz model with the superdrive 4x. I just want to know what to do before I disassemble it.

I have the osx discs and i've tried running them by holdig "C" on power up but it doesn't respond.
I just want it to go back to factory settings.
It would be awesome if you could keep the language basic because I'm not very good with computer talk!

Can't for the life of me figure out how to pop the case...or if its a SATA drive for that matter. I omega wont even tell me on their product overview!
My PowerMac G4 has an issue that has developed as of late where it goes into screen saver mode and fails to come back out of it. The mouse and keyboard are both unresponsive. Sometimes it goes back to the desktop and sometimes it doesn't. The only way to shut it off is to push and hold down on the power button. I have added an HP all in one printer to the computer.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI am trying to anodize my alluminum Macbook unibody that I just got and I have begun disassembling it. In order to anodize or electroplate the aluminum, it must be stripped down to pure metal. No cable, wires, boards, nothing. THe bottom half of the computer with the motherboard and keyboard I have succesfully gutted. The top half, however, I am having no such luck with. I need to remove the hinge/lcd/display assembly from the aluminum back cover. I have searched everywhere online and can find nothing. Ifixit does not go that far. The youtube video by this other company shows the Macbook Pro display and hinge magically come off, but they do not share how [URL].

We have .3gp recordings. All of a sudden, we started getting this error on some of our computers. Example: I want to play test.3gp; I try to open test.3gp in QuickTime, and I get an error that reads...
"Error -2002: A bad public movie atom was found in the movie:test.3gp" But when I go to play test2.3gp, it plays fine. This issue varies from computer to computer. I get this error on all three of my machines. 2 Windows 7 64bit, and 1 Windows 7 32bit. My colleague and boss can play test.3gp fine through QuickTime on their computers. One is Windows 7 64bit the other is 32bit.
Anyone know some causes of this and hopefully a way to solve it? I tried cleaning up registry errors, running as administrator, updating, reinstalling... Nothing is working.

Before i got my imac i seriously considered a g5 dual 2.0, but the money wasnt there. I see an apple refurb dual 2.0 for 1599, and im sure i cud get one a lot cheaper used here or on another board. How much of a performance increase will i see IN APERTURE going to the PM, if any? i would need a good increase to justify it, and eve then im not sure my parents would be ok with me spending a few hundred bucks to upgrade

View 4 Replies View Relatedi am see if it was a good idea to trade my psp with a bunch of stuff for a g4 imac 700mhz 684 ram (or something close to that). i have a macbook but i want a desktop because i want something to run folding at home on and for a place to dump all my stuff. plus i dont play my psp anymore i did for a little while but now it just sets there. o and i was thinking of letting people use it that like theres computer just died or they want to see what a mac is like. so just wanting to see what people thought.

(and the cost of replacement wouldn't be worth it). She can still use it if it never sleeps, which she will do for a while. Can she buy a mini (or I give her mine) and use the imac monitor? She would rather spend as little as possible.

In fact, I wonder, if it's possible to leave the iMac G4 (800MHZ) without a fan, unless I figuered out my problem with the fan connectors. Ok, I know, the fan inside the iMac is not for nothing. But, is there anyone outside, who uses his iMac without a fan?
