I just bought 2 new 4GB DIMMs for my Mac pro to expand the memory from 8GB to 16GB.
Here is the new arrangement: Top Riser: 4X2GBBottom Riser: 2X4GB
(I wanted to keep at least 2 slots empty just in case)
The problem: Mac will not recognize them. Every time I boot the computer it only recognizes all the Top riser memory (all the 2GB DIMMs only).
The bottom riser with the 4GB DIMMs will be shown as "empty".But...If I remove all the 2GB, only then it will recognize the 4GB ones. They are not faulty or not compatible then.In any scenario I haven't been able to go over 8GB. I did my homework, and I know they should be equal amounts of memory on both risers and preferably from the same manufacturer (which they are).
Info:Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 8-core Xeon 3GHz - 8Gb RAM
An SD memory card 32GB that used work well, when inserted into the MacBook Pro reader slot is no longer being recognized by the computer at all:
it is not visible in Finder or Image Capture or iPhoto, now nothing/nada/zip…
I am away from home, travelling - not anywhere near an Apple store/Apple Genius or even my old external card reader or a camera wire - so can not try these either!
Have a MacBook Pro, 2 years old, running OS X 10.8.5...
I'm in the process of upgrading the memory on my 1st gen Mac Pro. (2 x 3.0 Ghz Xeon). Apple publishes a memory max of 16GB., but I have seen references to these machines running more. My question is, has anyone successfully run larger configurations of memory, and will these systems recognize 4GB modules?
I just bought 2 - 4 gb memory to ugrade my 2 - 2 gb memory on my macbook pro 13" early 2011. Installed them and rebooted. The About Mac still shows 4 mb memory and looking farther it shows it has 2 - 2 mb memory. Also, now when I close the lid on the computer and it shuts down completely and not just go to sleep. i do not know if the two are related.
I have a Powerbook G4 that I wanted to upgrade to 1.5G from 512MB. So I added Corsair 1GB DDR RAM to the notebook and it seems to have issues recognizing both at the the same time. When I put both of them in together, it never seems to recognize the bottom slot. Putting in the 512MB in the bottom w/o the 1GB the Powerbook boots up fine. Putting in the 1GB by itself and it gives beeping noises on bootup, but it'll boot up if I put it on the top slot.
I have a MBP and I want to upload pics onto it from my SDcard from my camera. I put it into the memory card slot and i dont think it is recognizing it? Im not really sure what to do
I am thinking about getting a 15 inch MBP and a Sony Bloggie Video Camera. I was wondering if the sony bloggie takes sd or if the MBP recognizes Memory Stick in the SD Card Slot?
I have installed 4GB of extra ram to my MBP 13" (late 2010) to increase the performance of virtual machines. Though the VirtualBox doesn't recognize the 8GB of ram when i try to create a new machine for Windows XP 32-bit or Windows 7 64-bit. I haven't tried it with other operating systems. I have also reinsalled the VirtualBox but it didn't work.Â

I have a iMac DV G3/500 (Special Edition) from summer 2000. Anyway, I am using Mac OS 10.2.8. Recently, my start up disk's memory has gone done from 1.2 GB available free space to 668MB (currently). I haven't saved anything on this disk so I can not understand why this memory has dissappeared. I have also had icons on the start up menu disappear. Could someone please tell me how I can restore the missing memory?
I have a Black MacBook (Early 2008). I think that I still have the factory standard RAM sticks (I bought the Mac used from a friend). I noticed today that I am running on only one gig of RAM even though I have two gigs of memory.
I just bought a early 2009 MAC Pro and it came with 3GB of RAM, I ordered 3 2GB sticks of memory to replace the 3 1GB sticks that I had in there from Kingston. I turned off the unit, I popped the little levers and pulled the memory out of slot 1, 2, 3 and then replaced the memory with the new Kingston in slot 1, 2, 3
One of the sticks in is not working at all and I get the RED LED light no matter what slot I move that chip to. So I am running on 2 of the new Kingston memory chips.
Can I mix the memory and add the 1GB into slot 3 and 4 with slot 1 and 2 full of 2GB chips?
Also how to I run the memory utility again? I went to /system/Library/CoreServices/ and then I see the program Memory Slot Utility.app
How do I run this? I'm used to no spaces and I type ./then program name
I've just updated the os to 10.6.2 and my 16gb mac pro 1,1 only shows 8gb in the system profiler. The memory tab shows they're all working correctly but size says "2gb" where should be "4gb".
I installed 4x2GB memory modules. Now, I have a "Memory Slot Utility" pop-up(The memory modules are installed in the recommended slots) that pops up every time I start my computer. How do I get rid of this notice permanently?
I'm new to mac and I've noticed that I can have 2 gigs of memory one day and the next I'm down to 24 or something!I've noticed that if I open a file in Itunes and then change the info that there are now 2 files in the finder, one with the old info and the new with the new metadata. Why does OS-X do that?!
Also, if I have 1 gig of memory left (out of 180 or so) why does it disappear to 0 if I open photoshop? I'm used to a PC running virtual memory and CPU but why does the Mac actually take away my available memory?I'm at my wits end here, it's been driving me up the wall for weeks!
I bought two sticks of this RAM http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other...g/3200DDR1024/ and put it in my Dual G5, following these instructions http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/memory_c.pdf , but when I go to 'ABout this Mac,' it doesn't recognize that I've added RAM. I put the two sticks in slots 3 and 4 of the bottom half. I then tried putting the RAM into slots 3 on top and 3 on bottom, and then 4 on top and 4 on bottom....but it still won't recognize it. Did I do something wrong?
I made Boot Camp partition in order to install Windows on my Mac. Therefore it is 32GB, and after all I put the XP sp2 CD, I click 'Start Installation' and the computer says that can not recognize the Windows CD. I tried with different Cd's but still the same thing appears.
I have 2 legit XP CDs that came with previous PCs but none are above SP1. I acquired an SP3 iso and I have burned it multiple times in multiple ways so that it is bootable. The disc is recognised but it is not recognised at the boot screen (when option is held in at restart).
When I plug my camera in then turn it on iphoto pops up and I can do anything with the pictures but how do I see just the camera without iphoto, like enabling disk use.
I'm having a problem with my MBP and am stumped; I hope someone has a solution. Here's the backstory (please bear with me; this may be a bit long in order to give you all the details). My keyboard croaked, and the 160gb hard drive was filling up, so I thought I would replace both and add more RAM while I had the beast opened up. So I did all that, successfully (I think). Prior to taking out the HD, I backed it up using Time Machine. The MBP was running Leopard. I have the original 10.4.8 disc, after which I updated to 10.5.8. Â
After swapping out the keyboard, drive and adding RAM, I fired the system up and it worked! So I inserted the Install disc, went to Disc Utilities and formatted and partitioned the 750gb new drive. When I asked the system to install the OS, it chuckled at me and did nothing. The new partitions are on the desktop, but the Install disc doesn't recognize them. I plugged my external drive in (the one that has the Time Machine backup...), restarted the MBP, and it booted from the Western Digital external drive. how can I get the system to recognize the new drive and install the OS on it?Â
I have a Panasonic Camcorder, VDR D160. Neither of my Mac Books, one newer than the other, can recognise it. It does not appear on Apple's list of compatible camcorders.
I replaced my hard drive and everything worked great for a day or two, I could transfer data off the old60 onto the new 120HD via the firewire enclosure.
I have a Tibook G4, need more space. then my pictures wouldn't load on the exterior, i've been days trolling the internet for answers, like 25 hours now. And now suddenly it can't get itunes open either. I did nothing!
i can go into the finder, navigate to my old itunes which shows that it's there (it's 7.1) and when i open it, it opens itunes4 off the new internal drive (fresh install of OSX had not been upgraded yet). (and the songs i had imported off CDs fresh into itunes4 on the new drive are gone as well, it's empty.)
same with iphoto, if i can get it to open at all, it ends up opening the application off the new drive and other aps won;t work now as well.
today i changed the home name to see if that helped (it was just left the same as the old homefolder name, thought that might explain the confusion) no change.
iphoto says it won't load, sometimes says it needs to be updated, or says files missing. (i did drag pictures and 3 .avi's off from the library that first day) or opens the new drive's copy of iphoto. itunes opens the new drive's version, and songs i imported fresh are now missing, but were there two days ago. this problem start about 5 days ago.
i reformatted the empty drive, as per instructions, when installing. was i supposed to change user names or passwords or not drag files across to the new drive?
so many questions...such a huge waste of time. pretty miserable at this stage. [URL]
As the title says, I've got a 15" 1.67 GHz Powerbook. I ordered a new RAM card off OWC a while ago, and just got around to installing it now. The card specifications are as follows (taken from the order invoice): SO-DIMM 1.0GB Samsung Factory PC2700 DDR 333MHz 200 Pin SO-DIMM Module M470L2923BN0-CB3 S/N: 4150092 I opened the panel in the middle of the computer's underside, aligned and slid the card into the top slot, then pushed it down and closed the computer back up. I turned the computer on a few minutes ago, only to see that it was still only recognizing 512 mb RAM. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong, or what the deal is? On the Apple website, it lists a procedure for installing Powerbook RAM that involves removing the keyboard, which I did not do, because I don't think that applies to my model.
I cannot get PS3 to recognize (connect) with my MacBookPro following an update to MediaLink 1.59. With the earlier version of MediaLink I could look at photos on our tv via PS3. Now I do not get the icon for MediaLink when looking at, for example, photos on PS3.
The local Apple Store recently replaced the logic board and power supply for my G5 iMac. Today I tried to load the system restore disc to re-install the OS etc. in an effort to prepare it to sell (I want to have all my data gone).I put in the disc. The computer took the disc but it never showed up on the desktop or finder. And yes, my system preferences are set to open a finder window when a CD or DVD is put in the drive. Ejecting it became a challenge. I tried holding down the mouse button while booting, and booting into the open firmware (got an error message when I typed "eject cd"). Resetting the PRAM failed to help. The only thing that worked was to jam a credit card in the slot and stop the disc from spinning, and the machine spit it out.
i'm importing video from a vio pov1. its a lipstick camera that you film sporting things with. i downloaded divx and persia(n)?...but have a few problems. my ultimate goal is to open the file in imovie and edit it. when i open the file in quicktime...i don't get any sound. i can run the file in div x successfuly and see the video and hear the sound but i want to edit the film in imovie and save it to the compuer. persian didn't do much....i still don't know what that even does. there was no evident change after downloading it.
what are my options? also...for some strange reason...even though i imported the original file using iphoto and its saved as an event...i can't bring it into imovie. i'm guesing that this is becuase it can't recognize the original extension?
I have the most recent version of iMac 24" with a partition in the HDD to use Windows with parallels. I'm sure that the hard disk is almost full (about 3/4) but today, all the devices (mouse, printer, mac keyboard, external hard disk) are not recognized in the computer.
I was trying to startup the computer in SAFE MODE but once again, the keyboard is not recognized. I can't do nothing! Inclusive, I am available to apply a FACTORY RESTORE but when the disk 1 is inserted into the computer, I need to hit or double click the icon to run.
A month or so I got an iMac and it's been pretty awesome, despite two dead pixels! Today I wonder if perhaps I'm beyond help, and how in the world this could happen. This story begins with me using my Logitech MX Revolution mouse. It's a nice mouse, I really like it! When I first go the mac I promptly went to Logitech's site and downloaded the official logitech control center and everything worked out fine. Until a day ago, when I read that the logitech drivers are sort of sloppy, and using an utility such as USB overdrive, or steermouse would be better. (I decided to go for steermouse, as it looked to be more recently updated)
I uninstalled the logitech pref pane, and installed steermouse. This is where my troubles began. I couldn't quite seem to get the mouse to work properly, no matter what I tried on the menu. So I decided that, well, I guess this program is crap, and uninstalled it. When I went to reinstall the logitech pref pane, things started getting weird......................
