Mac Pro :: I Frequently Get Blue Screen Of Death After Waking From Sleep

I frequently get a blue screen of death after waking from sleep. I have to restart the computer to resolve the issue. This problem only began about a week ago, long after I updated to 10.7.4 on my iMac.

Windows On Mac :: Getting Blue Screen Of Death On Startup?

Dec 31, 2009

I just picked up a Mini display port to DVI adapter for my Macbook Pro so that I could hook it up to my 32 inch 1080p tv that I use as my main desktop monitor. It works just great in OSX (though for some odd reason I have to put the laptop to sleep then plug it in for it to work correctly. Can't be on or off otherwise I don't get the full picture not sure why) but in bootcamp it instantly causes a blue screen. If I plug it in then reboot to windows I get a blue screen even before its loaded windows all the way. I assume this is a driver issue but I'm using the latest boot camp drivers.

Software :: Mac OS X Reinstall - Blue Screen Of Death

Oct 2, 2009

I had got my Mac a couple of years ago, and it worked fine for a while. Just here recently programs have been shutting down for no apparent reason. I had done all the updates until then. So anyway, I found my disks that came with the Mac and used the one labeled Additional Software & Apple Hardware Test. This test said that I had a memory problem. Then I used the disks Labeled Mac OS X Install Disk 1 to begin reinstalling the program without loosing any of the saved files.

While it was running the disk, I ended up with the "blue screen of death". So then I manually shut the system down and booted it back up and then selected it to Erase and Install. Still the "blue screen of death". I have done this several times now and as far as it has got is checking the system and then it gets to the Duetch language thing and then to the "blue screen of death". I can't even get the disk out of the disk drive.

OS X :: Blue Screen Of Death At Startup / Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.3

Nov 8, 2008

My friend updated her 13" Black MacBook yesterday, specifically the "Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.3". After a reboot, she got the Apple "Blue Screen of Death", with no login window showing. Looking at system.log, there's a section that looks to be the culprit (this began after restarting due to the install of the update):

Nov 7 13:55:29 Philbert /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow[31]: Login Window Application Started
Nov 7 13:55:30 Philbert /usr/sbin/ocspd[53]: starting
Nov 7 13:55:35 Philbert kernel[0]: display: Not usable
Nov 7 13:55:35 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer[50]): Exited abnormally: Hangup
Nov 7 13:55:35 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer): Throttling respawn: Will start in 6 seconds
Nov 7 13:55:42 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer[64]): Exited abnormally: Hangup
Nov 7 13:55:42 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
Nov 7 13:55:52 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer[67]): Exited abnormally: Hangup
Nov 7 13:55:52 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
Nov 7 13:56:02 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer[70]): Exited abnormally: Hangup

Here are some things I've observed/tried, many from sources via the Internet:

- I'm able to login in single-user mode
- I'm not able to login in Safe Mode (hangs on white screen with Apple logo)
- I've tried booting off the 10.5 install DVD and running Disk Utility - verify/repair disk, this comes back ok. However, if I try to verify/repair permissions, it runs for about 10 - 20 mins then freezes. I let the frozen process run overnight (10-12 hours) and no feedback. I can move the mouse, but I cannot select anything.
- When the laptop is booted and on the blue screen, I can connect to it via AFP
- I've tried manually changing the permissions of "/", by doing - chmod 775 /; chmod 1775 /;
- I've tried removing the com.apple.WindowServer.plist and com.apple.loginscreen.plist files in case they were corrupted by the update
- I tried running the "installer" command to re-install the update package from the command line. I run it with the "verbose" flags, I get no output and the process hangs.

Since I can connect via AFP I figure I'll be backing the data up and re-installing OS X. Pretty lame though, considering this failure was caused by running a Software Update. Anyone have a last minute suggestion for me before I go down that path?I've attached the full system.log.

IMac :: Screen Not Waking From Sleep / What To Do?

Mar 27, 2010

Has anyone had this problem?

I have a (reletively) new iMac purchased in Nov. 27" 3.06 Ghz 4 GB Ram. The machine sleeps on it's own overnight from non use and then when i get up in the morning I click the mouse and I hear the machine waking up, (harddirve, cd-rom, etc.) but the screen stays blank. This happens in OSX and Win7 doen't matter what OS is running so it appears to be a hardware issue. Maybe there is a firm ware update, or somthing. To use the machine at that point, my only option is to force the machine to shutdown and then reboot. If I reboot to fast, meaning if I don't wait about 5-10 seconds after the shutdown, then the machine proceeds to boot but without any visuals, the screen stays blank.

Should I just take the system back to the apple store? Will they grab the current image and put it on a new machine...

MacBook Pro :: It Gives 3 Beeps Of Death When Waking Up Only

Mar 30, 2012

My new to me macbook (2010 MBP with 2.53 i5 running lion) runs great other than if I let it go to sleep for more than 5 mins it will give me the 3 repeating beeps until I hold down the power button and force a shut down.  It never does this when turning it on from shutting it down, just waking up.  I also checked the ram and made sure it was seated correctly.

Windows On Mac :: Blue Death Screen On Reboot - Installing Windows 7

Nov 12, 2009

I Have my 15" macbook pro 2,4 Ghz 2G in RAM, with Snow Leopard, bootcamp and vista running for some time (about a year or so) and every thing has been going ok. Last night I made a clean windows 7 installation. All went good, installation, let windows 7 make his updates, I put Snow Leopard disk to make macbook pro drivers updates and I installed all the program I need including Norton 2010 Antivirus.

All went smooth and easy untill I activated Windows 7 with Daz Windows Loader 1.6.9. After a few seconds It said : Everything Ok, Windows is now activated and your machine will reboot now. After that, it gets out of the desktop to the closing window and suddenly I get the blue death screen. I have to manually press de power button to shut down my macbook pro.

I reboot again and after getting the safe mode screen stuff i just keep with Start Windows normally. It starts well again, but now each time I want to reboot or shut down my MBP I get again and again the blue death screen. And Im sure i will get it while working soon.Is it probably because I did all kind of updates before running the Daz Loader (including programs and antivirus software)??

MacBook Air :: Black Screen With Cursor After Waking From Sleep

Aug 22, 2014

I just purchased a brand new macbook air this past week. I noticed within the first day of using that if my machine went into sleep mode, and I hit a key to take it out of sleep mode, it would go to a black screen with my cursor for about 30 seconds.

It does not do it every time but enough that it is annoying. I am coming from a mid 2011 mac air that did not have any issues. (only replaced for all day battery)

Do you think this a hardware or software issue? If i swap this mac out do you think I will just encounter the same thing?

I have read numerous posts regarding waking from sleep issues but they all seem to be affecting MacBooks purchased between 2012 and 2013.

IMac :: 21.5" Screen Doesn't Turn On When Waking From Sleep?

May 8, 2010

I'm not entirely sure how long my iMac has been doing this, maybe two weeks? When I try to wake it from sleep, the screen does not turn on. At all. At first I thought this was because my mouse and keyboard might not be functioning correctly, naturally the only remedy was to turn the computer off with the power button and to restart it (which took an abnormally long time). Today I remote connected with Back to my Mac screen sharing and it did not turn on either. I know it was awake because when I pressed the brightness buttons on the keyboard, it responded on my MBA's view of the screen. Normally, Back to my Mac does turn the screen back on. Anyone else have the same problem? It doesn't seem to matter WHEN it goes to sleep either. I've tried resetting the PRAM already and no dice.

MacBook Pro :: Unibody - Dell 2408WFP Waking From Sleep And Washed Out Screen

Apr 6, 2009

I bought a new unibody Macbook pro in December and have had it linked to a Dell 2408WFP for 4 months now (dell monitor as primary monitor, macbook as slave via apple mini displayport to DVI adapter) and I am also using the dell USB ports to hook up my apple wired keyboard and logitech revolution MX mouse. Problems occurring ever since the beginning include: Occasionally the computer refuses to wake up either screen. It may flash blue and look like its going to come out of sleep (or monitor shut off) with no problems but then hangs. This is intermittent and I cant seem to trouble shoot what causes it. On top of that, more frequently, the Macbook screen looks washed out (loss of colour depth). It doesnt flash and there are no blank/white areas of screen, just very poor colour depth. This can occur even coming out of screen saver mode. It seems to correct itself with time or disconnecting the dell monitor. Main programs I always leave open are Firefox +/- Transmission. Seems to happen regardless of programs being open or not. Have updated everything that Software Update can find to update. Anyone else having these problems or have any ideas how to fix?

MacBook Pro :: Black Screen After Waking Up From Sleep With Connected Dell Display?

Aug 17, 2009

I have a 2 month old 13" MBP which I absolutely love. The only hitch is that there is an oddity when connected to my Dell 2008wfp display. It only happens when I wake the MBP from sleep. A number of things happen sometimes. Usuaully, when I wake the MBP from sleep, i get a black screen on both displays and all I can see and control is the cursor. Sometimes the main display will be black, but the MBP display will show the desktop wallpaper, but again, I can only see and control the mouse cursor. It should also be worth mentioning that the keyboard is rendered non-functional as well.

Sometimes, OS X will appear on both displays, with mouse cursor active, keyboard inactive, but I am unable to click anything or interact with anything OS X.

Anyway, I'm at the point where I need to mention this because it happens quite frequently and its getting rather annoying. The only way I can get out of this hang, is to cold reboot the machine. It happens everyday and at least 50% of the time I wake the MBP from sleep. When not connected to the display, I never get this occurrence. Also, this display worked perfectly when I used to own the classic 15" MBP, so its hard for me to pinpoint what exactly is the anomaly that is happening.

Anyone else experiencing this same issue? I am using a mini display port to DVI adapter to the Dell display.

OS X :: Won't Fix Snow Leopard Sleep Freeze / Slow And Showing Blue Screen

Jul 30, 2010

1. When closing the lid or pressing the power button the computer freezes, the fans start spinning fast it stays like that until it drains the battery. This happens every time.

2. Start-up times are very long, like 3 or 4 minutes. This also happens every time.

3. Now after a fresh snow leopard install it doesn't even start up completely, as it stays showing a light blue background and I can hear the music of the introductory animation.

4. Also, the keyboard is unresponsive at the login screen, but the mouse cursor moves and the display goes to sleep normally. Clicking anywhere with the mouse also produces no effect.

5. It seems to work OK in safe mode.

The macbook worked ok with the factory installed Tiger. The SL DVD is OK, as its installation has been tested on another Mac. The machine's advanced hardware test passed successfully. Resetting Pram and SMC did not solve the problem.

OS X :: Mac Keeps Waking From Sleep

May 15, 2010

It all started a few weeks ago. Whenever I put my Mac to sleep, most of the time, it immediately wakes up again. (Eventually, the fans would start to spin up, but I solved that by disabling "Sleep hard drives when possible"). Now it's just a matter of how I can put my Mac to sleep, and keep it sleeping until I choose to wake it up. I recently got a new printer hooked up to the network, and originally thought it was the issue, but I don't think so now.

I've tried disabling wake up on network access, Bluetooth wake-up. I tried a Airport connection instead of Ethernet, and have disabled both. I even tried unplugging the Ethernet cable, along with any connected peripherals (except the keyboard). Now, my only guess is that it's a software issue, but I don't know where to start. I would love to see my Mac sleeping peacefully again.

OS X :: Mac Pro Waking Spontaneously From Sleep

Sep 24, 2008

I am having a problem with my Mac Pro waking from sleep spontaneously at night. It doesn't always do so, but when it does it seems to be at the same time, 00:42. This morning I opened console to see what was going on at this time and this is what I got: [Log] So it would seem that eye tv is the culprit. I then went to open the com.apple.AutoWake.plist in the System Configuration folder and found 2 entries for EyeTV under wakepoweron which correspond to the times listed above (i.e. 09/24/08 00:42:30 and 03/31/32 06:00:00). I have tried dumping the com.apple.AutoWake.plist into the trash and then restarting, but a new file is generated with the same entries, and also opening the com.apple.AutoWake.plist to delete the entries, but then get an error saying I don't have appropriate access privileges to save the file (even when I change privileges under 'get info' to read/write I still get the same error message).

They ran diagnostics on it and concluded that the problem is the 3rd party RAM. I then removed the RAM when I got home and it worked for a day. Now, the problem is back. I already reset the the VRAM and the SMU. I'll bring it back today to the Apple Store but I dont know if they will even entertain me this time as they didn't even charge me for running the hardware diagnostics last time.

MacBook :: Waking Up / Not Going To Sleep?

Apr 13, 2009

I just occasionally have noticed my Blackbook, running 10.5.6, when I open it after closing it and moving elsewhere say, may have lost a lot of it's battery power. I think what's happening is it's not going to sleep properly (or it's waking up) when closed. This of course leaves me with not enough power (today 8% when I opened up). What concerns me much more is that the HD arm might not be in the parked position and damage could result with me travelling around. I have in fact had two complete HD failures in 2 1/2 years (though I have no reason to believe this is the cause, in fact I doubt it). I'm aware I can press the power button then select SLEEP and I often do when I'm just charging at home and want to keep the temp down (it's hot here!). Very interested to know what's going on though.....in fact interested in the bigger picture of HD arms when the things spinning as I use my Macbook outside and on my lap a lot, and can't help some movement of course. I emphasise when I shut the lid it normally sleeps as normal, this is just an occasional thing. So is it dangerous, what's causing it, and what about the bigger pic on HD arms when moving the laptop around?

MacBook Air :: Keeps Waking Up From Sleep?

May 3, 2009

My girlfriends Air has suddenly gotten a weird problem lately. Every now and then when she wakes it from sleep it seems to think that it has a second display connected to it. Even rebooting doesn't always solve the problem.

She has never used an external display with it before. The port looks clean (I thought there might be something there causing a short) and as far as we know there hasn't been any tinkering with any system files on her computer.

Anybody ever heard of this problem before? Or have any idea how to fix it?

OS X :: MacBook Crashes On Waking Up From Sleep

Apr 15, 2009

I have a late 2008 macbook, and occasionally after going into sleep via closing the lid or according to the sleep timer, it doesn't really want to wake up. I open the lid/press spacebar and the computer sounds like it's waking up, the keyboard lights up, but the screen stays dark. I've tried waiting for up to 30 seconds before eventually I just hold the power button and hard reset. Upon restart, there is an error message stating that os x crashed. I haven't been able to let it sit for more than a minute or two, as it usually happens when I'm getting ready to give a presentation or something, fun right.
