Mac Pro :: Blu Ray & HD DVD Player

Okay, so we've probably heard about the LG GGW-H20L Blu-ray burner/HD-DVD reader. It's quite cheap for a dual format drive. I was wondering if there would be any extra complicated setup other than connecting the cables that are already in the Mac Pro. I know that there isn't true support for either format in OS X. That's fine. Here's my plan: Use the drive as another DVD/CD burner in OS X Use the drive to burn Blu-ray and HD-DVD data disks in OS X Use the drive to watch Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies in Vista in Boot Camp, as OS X doesn't support that yet. Do I need to do anything special to allow these things to happen?

have in the past few weeks uprgraded from tiger to leopard.Everything has been ok but i think i might have deleted some vital part of Quicktime player when i tried to clean up.I only realised this when i decided to get Quicktime player pro which i have paid for and have the key..I have tried to download quicktime from apple support website and just about any other website for that matter but zero.zilch.Installer takes me through the process but i get no player.
I have tried to remove all components of quicktime but to no avail.the download intalls but goes nowhere.Have tried to maybe 'jumpstart' it by double clicking quicktime time movies but there is just nothing going on.

Digital movies play just fine on my camera, a NIkon Coolpix but once I import them to either quicktime or windows media player they do not play smoothly. Any ideas why or what I can do to correct this?

Is there a way to make another player as a default instead of Quick Time Player? It seems like the player doesn't support international dramas.

I have the new Macbook with Snow Leopard. How do I get DVD Player back? I put the applications disc in and DVD Player didn't show up...
Also I have the OS X disc but I don't want to reinstall my OS and wipe all my data.

I'm unable to play AVI movies in the QT player that comes with Snow Leopard. Is there a QT plug-in somewhere which adds the capability to play AVI movies (with sound), in the standard QT player from Apple?

Just wondering if there was a different DVD player out there for OSX? I think the DVD player that comes with it is fine, but either I can't find it or it is missing one feature that I like. I don't know what it is called but it is the little progress line that you can click on and go to anywhere in a recording. For example, on Itunes, if you go to the top where it says what song is playing there will be a progress bar that you can use to go to anyplace in the song. That is what I would like to do with DVDs. Any suggested downloads out there?

I'm thinking of getting a Blu-Ray player for my living room, and one of the models I was looking at in Best Buy said that it supported "PC streaming," which I assume means that it would stream video and audio from a computer on the same network. I was wondering if any Blu-Ray players that work in this way support Macs. I have the latest version of Snow Leopard on my computer, which is a white plastic MacBook.

Don't know where to put this? but as I have a mini and have asked questions here will ask again. I'm not that interested in Netflix etc or games but would like to watch other type movies say life Lifetime etc. and had thought if I got a DVD player with WiFi it would work but no so from my son, I need something with a browser. My TV is an older model Sony Grand Wega KDF-42WE with coax, composite video, s video, component video and 1 HDMI connections. What can I use?

I have used the mac the ripper (latest version) to copy some of my DVD movies (legally purchased) to an external HD as a back up because I'm always losing them and scratching them and lending them to people. Anyways, when playing the video-TS folder in VLC, I've noticed that some movies have a bit of a skip between scenes (very minor). This is not there when i play the same folder in Mac OSX DVD player. Also, in DVD player, the Lord of the Rings The Two Towers, has the name of the director, writer, producer popping up on the screen all the way through. Has any else noticed either of these occurring? Any suggestions?

I have tiger and I've been watching DVD's on this lousy dvd player that comes installed with Tiger for years now.
My computer science professor, who also uses tiger (on an older machine than mine), has a much better DVD player that he uses for class.
His has a tracking bar (which the dvd player i have does not) and a lot of other things I'd like. So how do you get a better DVD player for Tiger?

Just noticed there is a new version of VLC player out. Version 1.1.0. And it seems like it is now 64 bit!!! One thing i did notice though is that the new version is about 130mb. thats nearly double the old one. I guess 130mb still isn't all that bad at all. Still kind of weird it is double the size. I have a MacBook intel 2.1GHz with 1Gb RAM running 10.6.4 Everything is working fine except that the DVD player quite frequently makes a sound as if it is trying to load a disc, this happens every few hours and when there is no disc anywhere near to it. I have run the usual checks of permissions and an HD check with no reported errors.

Going on a trip, and looking into a car adapter for my iBook (other thread). I'm thinking of using my iBook to play DVD's for the kids in the back. I have bucket seats in front, and a center console, so was thinking of strapping it down between the 2 front seets so the kids in the back could watch movies.
How was the skipping from bumps? I'm thinking volume might be limiting, but not sure. I'm just trying to avoid buying a seperate portable dvd player.

is there any application which can play blu-ray? I have a correct blu-ray folder structure on my harddisk (bdmv) and can't play it with Quicktime, DVD-Player or VLC. On Windows I have found a way but not for OS X yet.

I have just received an Mp4 Player from overseas. I don't know what the brand is, there is no info on that. It came from Asia. It has games, a digital camera, can play .avi , mp3, .wav.
But everytime i put one of my avi files from my mac it won't play it and says there is a "format error."
I tried putting the software disc that came with it (which is a small disc btw) into my Intel core 2 duo Imac but it doesn't register that it is in there.
I have the latest version of Leopard. The video that comes already on the player works, which is also an avi video. I just have a problem with avi files when I put them on the player from my Mac.
The video player is 16GB.

I Tried many Video Players... but the best one i've ever used so far was "windows media player classic" (shame on me)
I never found any other media player to just PLAY Videos, fast and without 10 Hours loading time(like nice player...) I want to just watch videos FAST, I don't need more features than...
Playing all video formats (like VLC) , and a playlist...
what do you think is the best one for OSX?
