I have a 120GB SSD that I boot from and would preferably like to keep this as free as possible. I have all of the Jam Packs and would like to install these now but can only seem to be able to select the boot drive to install them onto.
I have 2 1tb Caviar Blacks with nothing on right now.
Do they have to go on the boot drive? They will fit if need be, I'd just prefer to keep the boot drive less cluttered.
I know there have been a hack on the older mac mini, but curious if it can be done on the new one and if its easier?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI imported a few Russian Music CDs to iTunes and sadly a couple of them have garbled text while the others display fine. I know that garbled text happens when the computer doesn't have the language installed.
I remember a while ago I used Xslimmer and it got rid of some languages among other things. How do I go about reinstalling cyrillic languages?
I've just installed Logic Express 9 and was told that this would allow me to access and use my Apple Jam Pack Symphony Orchestra.
So far I can find now way to get this to appear in Logic Express.
Office 2011 comes localised to 13 languages (I mean interface). I have an english one, is there a way of switching the UI language? Or buy a langPacks like they do for office for windows?

View 5 Replies View RelatedApple has released a new beta of the Mac OS X 10.6.2 update with fixes for various performance issues dealing with AirPort, graphics drivers, and Apple TV, among others.
Those familiar with the build, titled 10C540 have said that it contains fixes for AirPort performance issues on the newly released iMacs and also resolves a problem which arose when plugging and unplugging a system to an Apple TV. A VMWare fix is also included, presumably for the newly released Fusion version 3.0.
The new build also fixes reported panic issues with USB, Apple Filing Protocol, and some video cards.
In the 10.6.2 update, Apple plans on fixing and tweaking nearly 150 OS X components.
Some components slated for fixes include: AppleBacklight, Battery Menu, Dictionary, Expose, FileSync, Family Controls, Fonts, Front Row, HFS, Inkwell, iPhoto, MobileMe, OpenCL, Parental Controls, QuickTime, Screen Sharing, Spell Checker, Spotlight, Time Machine, and USB.
Mac OS X 10.6.2 is expected to be released sometime in November and will reportedly be around 480 MB in size.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

I am finally upgrading to a MacBook Pro sometime around January, and I am as excited as can be. I do some messing around with audio, but nothing too serious, just things for fun and to show people, every now and then for a school project etc...
Mainly playing with samples and I'm looking to get more into it, and start some amateur DJ mixing.
That being said, I'm debating between Logic Express 8 and Garage band (plus several Jam Packs: Remix, Symphony Orchestra, World Music and Rhythm Section) since Logic would be cheaper.
For example: I have a music folder in the music folder are about 200 or so Artist folders looks like this: Music -> The beatles, Pink Floyd, The Killers, etc. Is there a way (without manually typing or copy/paste each one) to get all the names of each folder in text?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have my 24" iMac connected to a 22" LG monitor via an Apple mini DVI to VGA. The best resolution the monitor will run at is 1680x1050 which I guess is the native resolution.
My problem is that there is a black line at the bottom of the screen, and I can drag windows of the top of the screen by about the same amount as is missing of the bottom. What can I do to get that bit of screen to show up in the right place?
I have just purchased my first mac! A refurbed iMac! and I now want to move my music files across onto it. I am very pedantic and would like my HD to be as tidy as possible. My question is: Where should I place my Music Files on the HD?
1.) Should I create a music folder within the HD Music Folder and allow iTunes to copy/duplicate the files into the iTunes Folder? (Selecting the options via iTunes Preferences).
2.) Transfer the music files directly into the iTunes Folder?
Or something else? What method do you guys use to store your music files on the HD? I intend to have some sub folders within the main folder to separate Albums and individual artists or tracks I have downloaded in the past etc. Finally, If I use the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" option, will my tracks be renamed? As I intend to name/keep files names in a format I prefer.
I'd like to be able to sort my downloads folder by Date, but have other places in the Finder sorted by Name. Is there any way to do this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedYou read it right. If the air deflector is in place it won't boot. No gray screen. The power light comes on but it never gets to the chime. I hear a click and possibly the disk start to spin and then nothing. I reset the PMU and the PRAM but it didn't help. If I open the panel and take out the air deflector it boots fine. Once it starts I can put the deflector back and it runs normally.

However, lately after I shutdown my macbook and start it again, all the folders and files on my desktop move and scatter. I want to keep them in the same order that I originally arranged. I just lost an entire semesters worth of work and countless other files because my five month old computer's hard drive failed? Apple replaced the drive but told me it could cost an additional $500-$1000 to recover the data off my old drive? Granted, it was my fault for not having a backup in place since August, but I live in cramped quarters, travel a lot, and never have the space to lug around my external HDs, and I thought I could rely on having a computer's HD work for more than 5 months before crapping out. I'm furious right now. I've owned Macs since the 1990s, and I've never had an issue like this before today. I guess I can spend the $1000 now to get my work back.
View 24 Replies View RelatedApogee Maestro software was bouncing in the dock, then settled - but nothing happened. Same with skype. I could only force-quit both applications. Quicktime does the same, although if I leave it for 5 minutes, quicktime does launch - but all the controls are very laggy and playback is very stuttery (as in 4/5 frames every 30 seconds. I ran disk utility, and some permissions needed repairing. I then checked the boot disk and a 'significant/serious (whatever the nomenclature is) error' was found, so I ran the boot disk for Leopard and repaired the disk, which Disk Utility seemed happy enough with.
The problems are all still present though. Clicking through folders on all three of my drives is very slow, and luck alone seems to determine the success of attempting to launch any application. Does anyone know what may be happening - or is there any diagnostic software which may help? I've suffered hard disk failure before, and this doesn't seem like it (although I am backed up).
My desktop icons keep moving after reboot to the right hand side and arranged by name. Now: I have tried resetting the the views options, changing the grid size, changing the icon size, repairing permissions in the disk utility. I have tried all these, with reboots in between and in differing orders.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy 13" 4 year old macbook's headphone jack hasn't been working for the last week. I had been using a messed up cord (the adaptor part was bent) to plug it into speakers, and eventually it misplaced or bent something in the headphone jack. This is the important part, the headphone jack still works. If i put in headphones and push the headphone connector thing (sorry I don't know the word) forward (towards the screen) it recognizes and works. This leads me to believe the headphone jack has been knocked out of place or there is something bent in there. Is there any potential fix because I have a lot of plane flights coming up and don't want to be stuck with just the music on my iPod.
