HOW MANY SIMULTANEOUS CONNECTION can I use from a Windows client (like xp/Seven) to a Mac server (Lion Server) using the VNC service? There is a limit? We have some developers that work for IOS and we would try to buy a Server Pro for all the users and our developers can use the server from remote.

When I try to purchase the Lion Server from the App Store it displays a message that OS X Lion is also required uand I have to purchase both even when I am logged in and next to the Server item the client version confirms that I have already purchased it with a "download" button - the app has been downloaded but cannot install it as it is waiting for the app store to download the server components... and what if I just want to use it as a client only? Any suggestions besides the obvious $80 purchase.
View 1 Replies View RelatedReguarding Lion Server upgrade strategies: I have a macmini running 10.6.8 client serving Filemaker files, acting as File Server, and running a development web server. It runs as a normal non-admin user (nomad) utilizing a seprate admin account with admin privilages (guardua),for security. I run multiple shell scripts, apple scripts and Filemaker scripts. Many of which which use hardcoded file locations. Some bash scripts run under the non priv user other under the admin account. I also have a thrid user account which acts as rsync destination. Considering most files and programs are under the non-privileged user, I'm wondering how this user / admin account set- up will work when transitioning to Lion Server. (?) Will ther server app and scripts work with this set up? Do I need to upgrade the non-admin user (nomad) to admin privilages? I'm user sure how users and admin users work under Lion Server.Should I upgrade to Lion then to Lion Server? --Or-- perhaps do a clean install of Lion/server then reload from timemachine? Start from scratch?

I have an issue with my Windows 7 Client's they can connect my VPN SLS 10.6.8 but I tried to ping the server IP and get no answer.
Replay from x.x.x.x: Destination host unreachable. I did all registry changes for W7 Ultimate 64bits but no chance. All my Mac's work fine with all server services.

I have a Mac Mini Lion Server which is running open directory. I have several users which I created a while ago and they are able to login to the server from both Lion and SL clients. I created a new user account today and for some reason I am unable to login using the new user account from a SL computer. I've been able to login using a lion client, but SL, no dice.

With screensharing I can access it, I can start the Server app on the server OK> However I cannot open the server app on a client machine.It shows the Name/Password window, but denies access, even with my admin login credentials. I can access the server with Server Admin, but the Server app only works on the host machine. I presume it must be a DNS issue? I do not like to open the server app on the server because it shows, that it uses 40% of the processor ALL THE TIME, which I also think very strange.

I'm trying to connect to a remote Linux machine, which is running a VNC Server, from my Mac running Lion. I know there are third-party VNC clients but I'd like to use the built-in VNC client that is used for screen sharing. When I do a Finder Go to vnc:\<ip address>:5901, I get a screen sharing login prompt and it's asking me for both a username and a password. Normal VNC clients only ask for a password. I can't seem to connect even if I clear the username part and enter the just the password. I've confirmed that I can connect to the VNC server from a Windows box running TightVNC. When I run TightVNC on the Windows box, I'm only prompted for the VNC server password and it works fine. So what am I missing when using the built-in VNC client? Why is it asking me for a username? Is there a hidden VNC username on the server that I could supply that would get me past this?

The VPN connection is established, however I'm getting an error message on the remote server connection, the server looking similar to this... afp://server.host.main
The error message is error code -36 (some data in the server aft://server.host.main could not be read or written).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have updated some of my client machines to 10.4.9. My servers are still 10.3.9. My OD server is also 10.3.9. When my clients log on to the Tiger client machine (mobile users with local home directories) I can't view the loggin items pane in the "system preferences." The "loggin itmes" pane stalls and does not show the items listed. The user accounts seem to work fine and all managed preferences (live default website, several afp volumes logged in, and special dock configurations all seem to work fine. This has happen on all my Tiger client machines and to all OD users. It's weird. Also, all the manged preferences are on the groups the users belong to, not on the user records.

It looks like I have it working, in that both windows and mac machines can connect, with one caviat: only one SMB conenection can be made at a time. When I try to make a seciond connection, the client gets an error about the server being unable to accept any more conenctions.

However if I'm at work and connect to the VPN server and then a 2nd user from work connect to the VPN then the first connection gets dropped. I'm guessing because both connections are coming from the same source IP address. Is there any way to change this behavior?

After switching to a new provider and getting a new dsl modem (a fritz!box fon 7390) I tried to setup my homenetwork again. Now the weird thing is: my Mac Mini running OSX Lion Server doesn't seem to be able to connect to the internet over its ethernet port, only when using a WiFi connection...When it's connected with ethernet it can reach the dsl modem without any problems, but it can't ping/telnet or anything else through, only over WiFi... As long as I use the mini servers WiFi connection everything works fine, but that doesn't make any sense to me.I've checked the servers setting and the Fritz!box settings and I can't seem to find anything obvious. Of course I could just go on and use the WiFi connection...
ps: all the other computers can connect fine using either wifi or regular lan connection... I even tried the exact same cable with another laptop just to make sure...

Configuration: I have the latest iMac running Mountian Lion. I connect via WiFi to a Linksys modem that is connected to my ISP's WiFI modem which connects to a tower a few miles away which, in turn, connects to the ISP's processors somewhere nearby.
On the network diagnostics Network status there are indicators for WiFi, WiFi settings, Network Settings, ISP, Internet and server.
Occasionally the internet and server indicators go to yellow and then red resulting in no connection. I have reset the Linksys, the ISP WiFi modem, both and it does not seem to make any difference. Eventually the Internet and Server indicators return to green and the connection is restored. When they are yellow or red, it affects all processors in the house (iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad, iPod, etc).
I Have setuped Windows 2008 Server and Windows 2003 Server. On both is full working Active Directory. The clients can conect to it (win).I would lice to have some Mac clients and will setuped Lion server an in Open Directory I have set to connect to another server. Then in Directory Utility I will set the connection to AD Server over Connect in File menu and I have only error mesage "Can't connect to the server - Directory Services may not be installed on the remote server, they may be turned off, or the URL may have been entered incorrectly." and then I try the connection over Services - Active Directory and have error mesage "Authentication server could not be contacted." too.

I have one client that my server "serves". I just replaced the hard drive and installed 10.5 on it. (So, my server is at 10.4 but the client is at 10.5). I'm trying to get so I can log in. I figured out how to get the client to see the LDAP (or Open Directory). The machine is now "managed". I can tell because the log in screen has my own message on it. When I type in my user name and password, it finds it but then it says that there has been an error. So, its almost working but not quite. Can a 10.5 client work from a 10.4 Open Directory server?

Im having problem problems all over Lion Server. I can't manage Profile Manager on client machines..nothing authenticates. So I thought I would rebuild the Open Directory replica functions....however in recreating an Open Directory I get an error.
"Cannot replicate a directory with augment user records.Your server cannot become a replica of 'server.com' because its directory contains augment user records. Please refer to the Open Directory Administration Guide for more information about this issue."
How do I get rid of the augment users records?By the way..I set this server up per Lynda Lion Server essential training. Part of the server functions with File Sharing and users accessing folders..but Profile Manager does not authenticate on client machines.
Just recently started with a company that uses a SonicWall SOHO3 VPN - the client is Windows based only. I am trying run this on my Windows XP Pro VM in Parallels 5.0 for Mac (I use a MBP with Snow Leopard 10.6.2) and get hung up on the "Acquiring IP" step.
