I'm working on setting up a new lion server machine as a file server for my mixed mac/windows network. It looks like I have it working, in that both windows and mac machines can connect, with one caviat: only one SMB conenection can be made at a time. When I try to make a seciond connection, the client gets an error about the server being unable to accept any more conenctions.

I have a Lion Server running at my house. I often VPN through the server when connecting to public wifi. However if I'm at work and connect to the VPN server and then a 2nd user from work connect to the VPN then the first connection gets dropped. I'm guessing because both connections are coming from the same source IP address. Is there any way to change this behavior?

After switching to a new provider and getting a new dsl modem (a fritz!box fon 7390) I tried to setup my homenetwork again. Now the weird thing is: my Mac Mini running OSX Lion Server doesn't seem to be able to connect to the internet over its ethernet port, only when using a WiFi connection...When it's connected with ethernet it can reach the dsl modem without any problems, but it can't ping/telnet or anything else through, only over WiFi... As long as I use the mini servers WiFi connection everything works fine, but that doesn't make any sense to me.I've checked the servers setting and the Fritz!box settings and I can't seem to find anything obvious. Of course I could just go on and use the WiFi connection...
ps: all the other computers can connect fine using either wifi or regular lan connection... I even tried the exact same cable with another laptop just to make sure...

Configuration: I have the latest iMac running Mountian Lion. I connect via WiFi to a Linksys modem that is connected to my ISP's WiFI modem which connects to a tower a few miles away which, in turn, connects to the ISP's processors somewhere nearby.
On the network diagnostics Network status there are indicators for WiFi, WiFi settings, Network Settings, ISP, Internet and server.
Occasionally the internet and server indicators go to yellow and then red resulting in no connection. I have reset the Linksys, the ISP WiFi modem, both and it does not seem to make any difference. Eventually the Internet and Server indicators return to green and the connection is restored. When they are yellow or red, it affects all processors in the house (iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad, iPod, etc).

I have a MacPro Early 2009, 2 ethernet ports.Ethernet 1 is connected to the LAN and Ethernet 2 is connected directly to a SSL Matrix console (an audio mixer), whom driver needs the used ethernet port to be first of the list in the Network connections list in System Preferences.So when I browse internet I can't use the Matrix's software, and vice versa.I had to create 2 different network positions to browse internet and to work with SSL Matrix, one with Eth 1 first place, another one with Eth 2 first place, and I always have to swap positions.Is there a way to force OSX to use by default the 2nd connection of the list for internet access?

I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

I've recently purchased my first mac - love it! I'm trying to connect to my remote server at work (windows based) from my Mac OS X, through VPN.
The VPN connection is established, however I'm getting an error message on the remote server connection, the server looking similar to this... afp://server.host.main
The error message is error code -36 (some data in the server aft://server.host.main could not be read or written).
I have three e-mail accounts set up in Mail 3.6. Since late October, one account has been experiencing intermittent connection errors to the server.
"The attempt to read data from the server [URL] failed."
"The attempt to connect to the server [URL] failed."
"The connection to server [URL] failed because port 110 timed out."
These errors last 15 minutes or so and go on and off all day. I still receive my e-mail fine, albeit somewhat delayed when I'm experiencing a connection error. Three other clients also using Mail with e-mail accounts on the same server (different domains) have also been experiencing the same connection errors over roughly the same time period. I have complained to the webhost thinking it is a problem on their end. They tested each account and claim that the problem is with Mail.
Skeptical, I recreated my problem account in Thunderbird. At the same time I was having connection errors in Mail, the account in Thunderbird worked fine. In the end, I could not reproduce the connection errors in Thunderbird. I'm at a loss what to tell my clients. My set up: Power PC G5; Mac OS X 10.5.8; Mail 3.6
In the last week I have been getting a persistent warning on my desktop: "Connection Failed. This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally." Sometimes there will be 5 or 6 of these warnings to be cleared from the desktop. All my drives are mounted correctly (2 internal 1 external USB drive) and there are no other file servers set up on my network. My machine is 400MHz PowerPC G4 700 MB SDRam running 10.4.11.

I can connect to all computers on the internal network but when I try to connect outside of this network, I get an error "no internet connection" For example, if I try to run software updates from the command line, I get the "no internet connection" error. I can ping localhost, the router, and dns server successfully...cant ping outside the internal network however. All other computers can connect without a problem. The firewall is set to allow all traffic. Also, the internal network is a number of Windows/Linux PC's, 1 powerbook, and the Xserve.

PC's using the same IP address password and internet connection get in just fine. What should I check? Connecting the same way getting on the internet here at work were the PC I am trying to connect with works just fine. VPN(PPTP) connects and Remote Desktop takes me to the PC's desktop just fine. I have tried from home with both my mac laptop and imac desktop, neither will connect but PC users have no problem connecting remotely.

I have a Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8.
Suddenly the networking functionality has stopped working and the diagnostics fails to fix it. It shows all green lights apart from Internet and Server which both show as FAILED.
My router is operational and does assign the Mac Mini the correct IP address (confirmed by the Mac Mini and the Router). All other devices on the network work and can access the internet as usual.
I have tried everything that I can think of but just can't get it working again.
The same symptoms occur for both the wired ethernet and the wireless connection with the build-in airport.

I have suddenly, since Friday 2 March, experienced very slow connection to one of my ISP's mailservers. Emails without attachments work ok'ish (a little "hesitantly"), emails with attachments of moderate sizes (eg. +/- 500 KB) download/upload extremely slowly and most of the time fail. I have asked my ISP, who are generally helpful, and they have tested the mailserver and can find nothing wrong. So, here we go: The problem is both for ethernet and wireless.The problem is for one account only. I have a different account with the same ISP, but on a different mailserver, which works absolutely fine.Two different Macs have the same problem. The other PCs with different ISP's accounts work fine.Router is working fine with good internet connection and email via one of the two accounts works fine.It is not a problem on my computer (since it is the same issue for two machines). Both run OSX 10.6.8I have tried both Entourage and Outlook on both machines; same problem everywhere - one account works, the other doesn't (properly).I have tried with my iPhone, using the same wireless connection and same account details, and it downloads emails with attachments speedily - emails that failed to download on the MBP/Outlook.I have tried one of the machines (a MacBook Pro) at home with a different wireless connection but to the same mailserver and it works fine there!This happened last Friday and no settings have been changed locally for months. I recently updated my Server running 10.7.0 to version 10.7.3 and single-sign-on no longer works for my users. The 10.7.3 Lion Server System is bound to our Active Directory Server running on Win2003 R2 Server. I tried un-binding and rebinding the system but.. no luck. I am desperate for help because whatever I do I cannot get my own certificates to work. When I first set up Lion Server a so-called Intermediate CA and a corresponding SSL server certificate was automatically installed and that works fine. Now, I wanted to create my own Certificate Authority (CA) and a leaf SSL server certificate.[URL]First I created my own CA, and then I created a new certificate with the Server App (ID type "leaf", certificate type "SSL server". (see screenshots below), and I had it signed by my own CA. When I checked the certificate it said "valid".Next, I exported the certificate from the keychain (as .p12) and then I went to Server App's "Import a certificate identity" to drag and drop the certificate onto the window. So far so good.
When I opened the list of certificates (Server App -> Hardware -> SSL -> Edit ) the new certificate showed up once, and after the Server App had tried to install the certificate it simply did not show up any more. I have copied the important parts of the certificate below (private parts have been cropped).The common name and the DNS name are "myserver.domain.private", and yes, DNS is working fine.(I stopped started services and re-booted in between creating and importing the new certificate.)

I know with previous installations of Filemaker Server I have been asked whether I wanted to keep the system version of PHP or install PHP which comes with Filemaker Server, but I don't recall being prompted about it on this occasion. Previously I had always opted to retain the system PHP.

With any Unix machine, one can run at the command line:- apachectl -S This will show all virtual servers configured in Apache, and will break if there are any obvious problems in the httpd .conf files. It's very handy for testing a new configuration before restarting the server. With Mac OS X Server though, this doesn't work properly. Sure, I can run that command and see a virtual server or two, but with the introduction of the server Apache wrappers, the command line tools read a very different configuration than the `serveradmin` tool does.

not quite so dire if you clicked this wondering ??? And why is this bing posted on Server forum? Well it happens to be on a server and I am trying to iron out what happens when you completely trash the system and start over. This problem occured in a subdirectory on one folder. It (the triangles ->) are there for all the other folders. However, there is one folder I had on a backup (backup, meaning still being a previous version of Lion) that at one point that any group of folders I place into it. there is no browsing triangle that lets you go down furthur. Yes you can open the folder and go further in, so its not prefs that I am aware of.
At this level...Triangles Here Still? Triangles still here. (Must say in Cookie Monster voice if you've watched the "Cookies done yet" bit you might giggle or at least be mildly annoyed.)
If you browse from this part of the hierarchy you get the expected behavior...Triangles Here Still? Triangles still here. however if you open the folder here is what you get...Triangles Here Still? (uh oh).

I know this issue is kind of old, but there are so many flavors of it, that it is hard to find exact match. I've been having problems with single account, and it happens that this account has admin rights. Emails get pulled/deleted from user's mailbox within 10 secs after arrival. There are no other devices that may be pulling those emails, however, I've noticed something strange in the logs:

I don't know if this event is normal to run on server itself, but seems it runs only for this one account that I'm having problems with. There is no imap client setup on that server, and based on my time stamps observations I'm pretty much convinced that's what's deleting my emails.
